  1. check this out. most funny. chuckle its music so qualifies to be in here.
  2. the music hall and forum have been suggested by others already. you reckon they would go for that? any1 know some1 involved with the council to ask?? i can get coverage on northsound and in the evening express so it shouldn`t be too hard to get some decent publicity. might manage to blag summat on bbc radio too(will look into it). flash - not going there but i hear ya gonna make some enquiries bout diff venues and things next week. will post anything here. if someone else has contacts in the right place. check em out. ta
  3. no offence taken, but by that statement surely if the bands and dj`s and people fliering can give up their free time surely bar staff, promotions, etc can also be written off.... remember, it costs bands money to do these things too (rehearsal, transport, equipment) so where do you draw the line???
  4. by coming to this thread and posting you automatically cease to be random. baa baa
  5. how about doing a combined night. say, 4-5 bands in drummonds at night then bands in moshulu (snafu was suggested by a friend too - Mo could be persuaded i think) afterwards with dj`s etc. would involve more bands and, therefore, more punters.
  6. nice thought. already spoken to eric in drummonds bout the possibility of doing this and he said yes, no problem. (if another, bigger, venue would be better then cool) also said he`d donate some takings too. just gonna check dates i think and see what can be done, and soon. was thinking bout trying to make it maybe an all dayer (start at 3 or 4 or something. gonna check out and see if we can find some raffle prizes or summat similar to raise a bit extra too. was thinking to get as many bands as poss to do short(ish) sets too and get as many in the door as poss. these are just ideas that myself and flatmate have spoken bout. any other suggestions are more than welcome. ps. promotion would be no problem. should be easy to get some v good publicity in the evening express etc...
  7. what gear do you use??? you may be limited in what sounds you can achieve depending on what you use....
  8. i never said anything about copying or replicating other peoples styles. how do you know if your sound is original if you`ve never played someone elses style? arent all the best martial artists those ones who know a few different techniques? arent the best(?!) musicians those who can adapt themselves to numerous different styles?? how can you believe that by NOT playing other peoples musical styles you are automatically original yourself????? seems a bit silly to me.... my 2 cents
  9. Electric Tibet wrote: agree 100%. how can it be possible to play any instrument to any style and NOT know some form of theory??? Can you keep in time/same key/etc....... knowing theory and other peoples works are immensley helpful because it opens up your mind to ideas (like rhythms, key changes, tempo changes) that otherwise you may never have thought of. i reckon playing some covers can be a good thing because its always good to play in another style from normal. it means you will always be more open to adopting a style for some of your own songs which may not have occured to you, therefore giving that piece a distinctly different feel. of course, if all you learn are 3 chord pop/rock songs this may not help that much......
  10. so if you have all the singles and stuff no real need to buy this 1....... ...probably still will though
  11. a friend has just got hold of a basement place in rosemount, opposite masada i think, and will be looking to rent out time to bands. not sure bout prices or times or what but i will get his moby no. and pm it too you as soon as. ps. should see him this weekend sometime....
  12. got it skived work for couple of days to play it TOTALLY ROX!!
  13. Colin Fraser of Biomechanoid is a bit of a genius imo. some of the mixes hes done for aberdeen bands has been pretty cool. hes in edinburgh now.
  14. I played Double bass for bout 8 years and played in a couple of orchestras but havent touched one for quite a while...
  15. I own my fave bass. Rickenbacker 4003 FG - the dogs bollox.
  16. Buy a double bass and learn to play it instead. More expensive but way cool. Sounds good too. unfortunately, you need rather a large vehicle to move it about, unless your built like the hulk.....
  17. directions as above. the blue double doors facing the small car park entrance. the door next to it has the number 666.
  18. hmm. played double bass from when i was 9 (31 now) and played it till 17. lots of orchestral pieces played - some of which are pretty damn good. took up bass guitar when 13 and still play to this day. i own a BC Rich warlock bass (fookin ace thing) and just got a Rickenbacker 4003 fireglow thingy too (also fookin ace). never bothered with amps (only have a shite peavey - always borrow whatevers going about). I use a Boss ME-6B multi-effects unit thing which makes some ace noises. getting some new effects next week too (be in to see you shawn). so they should be fun. party piece?......prob Cliff (GOD) Burtons Anesthesia (Pulling Teeth) - although tend to lose it when the drums start
  19. cliff-god i use a pick almost always. cant really do chords on a bass with fingers properly (yet, but working on it) and effects seem to come through clearer too. if chillin or just jamming fingers are nice and bring a more subtle feel to tunes. feels pretty satisfying thrashing a bass with a pick though
  20. Nine Inch Nails - downward spiral tour - barrowlands about 95/95. Best gig i`ve ever seen. Public Enemy/Nirvana - Reading festival 1996 i think(correct me if wrong). 70,000+ people chanting "FUCK THE POLICE!" is something that I will never forget.
