  3. Here are the full details: Paragon Ensemble: The Art of Repeating Yourself Monday 03 May 2004 Tickets 8 (5 concessions & regulars) Doors Open: 7pm Show Starts: 7.30pm John Adams: Shaker Loops Gavin Bryars: Jesus' Blood Never Failed Me Yet The Glasgow-based Paragon Ensemble bring the sound of music that is very much their own to The Lemon Tree. Past masters at the tricky art of bringing contemporary music to life, the ensemble's recent performances have brought rave reviews and audiences to their feet up and down the country. This minimalist programme is made up two of their favourite things: John Adams' driving, rhythmic virtuoso work-out Shaker Loops, and Gavin Bryars' heartbreaking Jesus' Blood Never Failed Me Yet. This performance will open your ears and eyes. Go contemporary! www.paragon-ensemble.com
  4. My thoughts exactly. have only heard snippets of the collabortions album, but it's a pretty strong line-up of artists. His own stuff is strong enough anyway, but there's an interesting Q & A with Toots on the album on their official site (link above).
  5. Here's one to look forward to: Toots and the Maytals Thursday 01 July 2004 - Caf Tickets 18 (12 concessions & regulars) Box Office: 01224 642230 Doors Open: 9:30pm Show Starts: 10:00pm Toots is one of the true architects of reggae - so much so that "Do the Reggay," a 1968 single with his group, the Maytals, is credited with giving the genre its name. Classic songs written and recorded by Toots and the Maytals such as "Pressure Drop" and "Monkey Man" have been covered by the likes of the Clash and the Specials, and the group was featured in reggae's greatest breakthrough event - "The Harder They Come," the 1972 film that became an international sensation. The star guests on "True Love" range from legends like Keith Richards, Eric Clapton, and Bonnie Raitt to younger stars including No Doubt, the Roots, and Phish's Trey Anastasio. The caliber of these collaborators reveals the impact that Toots has had on several generations of rockers and rappers, while appearances from reggae icons Bunny Wailer and Marcia Griffiths show the respect granted to the man who might be the music's greatest living vocalist. At the heart of it all is that voice - drenched in soul, rooted in gospel, and still breathtakingly powerful after almost four decades in the spotlight.
  6. Oh yeah, The Downroads should be on my list too.
  7. Support for this gig is Gisli Their new single "How About That?" released 2nd June on EMI. www.gisli.co.uk
  8. AKA The Fox The Needles King Voodoo Real Shocks (though i've only heard them on the radio) Eric Euan X Certs (again I've only heard them on the radio) That's it - I need to get out more!
  9. Support for this gig has been announced as White Light Motorcade.
  10. His name was Paolo Nantini. I'm afraid I know don't if he has any gigs lined up in the near future.
  11. Third act has now been announced - Hiding Place.
  12. I quite liked the outfits, weren't particularly tasteful right enough, but I'm sure that was the intention. Looked a bit like a cross between The Monkees and early VU.

  14. Dogs Die in Hot Cars plus support Thursday 13 May 2004 - Caf Tickets 6 (4 concessions & regulars) Doors Open: 9pm Show Starts: 9.30pm After a couple of false starts, the very highly rated DDIHC make it back to The Lemon Tree after a storming debut here last July. With a highly distinctive sound that's drawn comparisons with XTC and Talking Heads and won support slots with Athlete and Turin Brakes, Dogs Die In Hot Cars are one of the most interesting and promising new acts to emerge in 2003. After a frenzied bidding war, they finally signed to V2 in October and their debut album will be one of the year's most keenly awaited releases. Drinks promos - selected bottles 1.50/selected shots 1.

  17. The swearing on The Fudge version of The 12 Days of Christmas, took things to a whole new level. Was that some sort of record attempt?
  18. Good point Chilli, well spotted, Komputer are on the bill too. The Triptych brochure says of them: Komputer - teutonic synth pop and a homage to Kraftwerk from the London duo, who filter old school sounds, ambient noise and hypnotic percussion through contemporary digital wares. Defining themselves as 'two blokes sat at a small table with a sampler and a couple of control boxes,' while sounding like Eno, Morricone and Pole, Komputer's unapologetic brand of 70's electro pop and analogue synth histrionics is charmingly infectious and reassuringly familiar. Sounds ace, how were they at Unknown Pleasures?
  19. Jamie
