  1. Tune Up presents The Delgados+support Friday 4th February Caf Doors 9pm | onstage 9.30pm 12 (8 concessions & Regulars) chemikal underground label owners The Delgados formed in 1994. Taking their name from the famed Spanish cyclist Pedro Delgado, they are individually: Alun Woodward (guitar/ vocals), Emma Pollock (guitar/ vocal), Stewart Henderson (bass) and Paul Savage (drums). Drawing inspiration from sources ranging from the Incredible String Band to Hamish Imlach, the bands heady brew of off-kilter pop, strings and folk influences was quick to attract a loyal following as well as critical acclaim. As The Delgados songwriting matured, their arrangements became more precise and beautiful. On their last two albums in particular, the carefully considered guitar, orchestrated strings and haunting vocals combine to create an overwhelmingly powerful and unmistakably grand style of pop music. The Delgados are currently writing their fifth album. http://www.lemontree.org/Music/event.cfm?eventid=2287&tempmonth=2
  2. Due to singer Marta Sebestyen becoming ill, we have regretably had to cancel the Muzsikas Ensemble performance scheduled for this Thursday the 7th of October. Refunds are available for all ticket holders, and we hope to reschedlue the show for sometime in 2005. Apologies for any disappointment and inconvenience.
  3. DF Concerts presents: Mull Historical Society+support Tuesday 23 November 2004 Lemon Tree Caf Tickets: 14 including booking fee Doors Open: 7.30pm Show Starts: 8.30pm Box Office: 01224 642230 After recording his last two albums in Glasgow, This Is Hope was compiled during an intense three-week recording burst in London studio The Strongroom. Since he was responsible for producing the record and playing most of the instruments from bass guitar to banging beer kegs, preparation was hugely important. "I felt almost like an athlete honing myself for a big game," he remembers, "or an actor stepping up for a big part." The result is an album that manages to combine a starburst of ideas with a leaner sound, particularly noticeable on the sinewy opening track Peculiar. But fans of Colin's endlessly inventive approach to sonic science needn't worry; the rest of This Is Hope features a whole range of found sounds, including a lusty singalong from a MHS gig, a monologue from Colin's grandmother and three sisters recorded on mini-disc in the back streets of New Orleans singing a gospel chorus. And that's all in the same song! http://www.lemontree.org/Music/event.cfm?eventid=2283&tempmonth=11

  5. DJ Premier has had to cancel his scheduled performance at The Lemon Tree on the 9th of November as he will be receiving an award and performing at the VH1 Television Music Awards during the time scheduled for his European tour. As luck would have it we've been able to replace him with the other half of Gangstarr - Guru, on a great bill with DJ Doo Wop and local heroes Deejay A'La Fu, Isho and Corallo... The Lemon Tree in association with Celebrity Talent present: Guru+DJ Doo Wop+support Tuesday 9th November Cafe Doors 9pm 15 (10 concessions & Regulars) Rapper/composer Guru (real name Keith Elam) first rose to prominence as the "lyrical half" of the hip-hop duo Gang Starr, one of the first outfits that attempted to fuse jazz with rap. After three albums by Gang Starr hit record store shelves (1989's No More Mr. Nice Guy, 1991's Step in the Arena, and 1992's Daily Operation), Guru launched his own solo career, issuing Jazzmatazz, Vol. 1 in 1993. The album featured guest appearances by the likes of Roy Ayers, Donald Byrd, and N'Dea Davenport of the Brand New Heavies, and was followed up two years later by a sophomore solo outing, Jazzmatazz, Vol. 2: The New Reality, which again featured a variety of special guests (including Ramsey Lewis, Branford Marsalis, and members of Jamiroquai). Despite his solo career, Guru has remained true to Gang Starr all along, continuing to contribute to such further albums as 1994's Hard to Earn and 1998's Moment of Truth. Five years after his second solo outing appeared, Streetsoul was issued in 2000, which again featured a stellar cast of supporting characters: Herbie Hancock, Isaac Hayes, the Roots, Erykah Badu, and Macy Gray. Wasting little time, Guru returned directly back to the recording studio, issuing a follow-up one year later, Baldhead Slick da Click. In addition to the aforementioned artists, Guru has collaborated with some of rap music's best-known producers, including fellow Gang Starr member DJ Premier, Pete Rock, Alchemist, Ayatollah, and DJ Spinna, as well as Ice-T, Naughty by Nature's Treach, Killah Priest, and Ed O.G. DJ Doo Wop will be playing alongside Guru, with tableturns also provided by Aberdeen's own Deejay ala Fu, Isho and Corallo. http://www.lemontree.org/Music/event.cfm?eventid=2280&tempmonth=11

Can't speak for the venue 100%, but I'd reckon there's no chance he'll play here again. As far as I can ascertain The Lemon Tree has never seen anything like that in over 10 years in the business, and much as Pete can draw a crowd, he just aint worth that amount of aggro, and doesn't seem able to put his fans and performance above his personal problems.
  9. Any re-scheduled gig certainly wont be happening at The Lemon Tree. The Lemon Tree would like to issue the following statement on the events surrounding the hire of the venue by Bullet UK Promotions on the evening of 29th of September 2004. The Lemon Tree was engaged by Bullet UK Promotions for a hire of the venue to stage a performance by Babyshambles, featuring Pete Doherty formerly of The Libertines, on the 29th of September. 530 tickets were sold in advance for the performance with 280 sold via agents engaged by Bullet UK Promotions, and 250 through the Lemon Tree Box Office. Following three support acts having played to the audience, 25 minutes after Babyshambles were due onstage, The Lemon Tree's staff were informed by Bullet UK Promotions that Doherty, who was on the band's tour bus, was unable to play, due to "having fallen down stairs". Another member of the Babyshambles tour party then made a statement to the audience to this effect and further stated that the Babyshambles perfomance would not go ahead. Some members of the audience became unruly, with one setting off a fire alarm resulting in the building being evacuated. Our staff attempted to inform as many of the audience as possible that refunds would be available for tickets bought through our Box Office in due course, and that for tickets bought through other agents to approach the appropriate point of sale. Full refunds for tickets bought through The Lemon Tree Box Office are available to purchasers with valid ID checkable against purchase. Unfortunately, given the concert was a hire by Bullet UK Promotions The Lemon Tree is unable to take further responsibility for the non-appearance of Babyshambles or for refunds for purchases made through other agencies. Customers seeking refunds for tickets bought through other agencies are advised to contact the point of sale, these being: www.ticketweb.co.uk (customer service - 08701 535353) Babyshambles Ticket Hotline 0870 950 7262

  12. I'd imagine it will be the same day, don't really know though. Killamangiro - please send me the F*ck Forever song (as i'm a moderator I don't feel I should swear on these forums...it's a bit like being a prefect), and did you enjoy the student Fayres?
  13. It's now sold out, and not that it really matters now, but the price is the same as it was in the above posting: 9 (6 concessions & Regulars).
  14. Yeah' date=' Tuesday 12th October Doors 8pm | support 8.30pm Tickets 14 inc. booking fee Founder members Dan McCafferty and Pete Agnew are joined by Lee Agnew and Jimmy Murison. [url']www.nazarethdirect.co.uk
  15. Hi there, I'm very concerned to hear that some of you haven't been receiving your Regulars' newsletters. There should have been three of these this year, the last one having been sent just last week. If those who didn't receive these can get in touch with me at marketing@lemontree.org to confirm their current postal address, I shall look into what the problem is there. Even outside of the freebies, we feel the Regulars scheme presents excellent value at only 28 (20 concessions), a price that has not increased in many years. With discounts for the bigger gigs being in the region of 4 to 7, you make this back over 7 shows or less. That's not to mention the 10% discount for meals in our cafe. Tommy Boy, sorry to hear that you haven't found much to get excited about in The Lemon Tree's programme recently, but I am confident that our music programme is of the utmost quality and should have something for almost every taste. Even in the next week or so we have: One of the UK's best Blues vocalists in Connie Lush; Up-and-coming Glaswegian indie / alternative band Josphine; The Bees, who may not be to everyone's taste, but their Mercury Prize nomination, great reviews in the likes of Mojo and Uncut, and a gig here that is already very close to selling out, show there are plenty who do rate them; The highly innovative Skye producer and DJ, Mylo, who played an astounding set to thousands at this year's T in the Park, and has been lauded by publications such as Q, Jockey Slut and The Observer. With Freeform Five in support this gig is a real bargain at 6/4! Estranged Libertines frontman Pete Doherty's new project Babyshambles; Further ahead, Bloc Party are another exciting young band coming to The Lemon Tree soon for a ticket price of only 6/4, and who you will be unlikely to see again in this size of venue for such a reasonable price. More established names playing here before Christmas include Capercaillie's Karen Matheson; Mory Kante; Roger Chapman, Nazareth, Sensational Alex Harvery Band, Vonda Shepard, Jah Wobble and Hundred Reasons. And in terms of profile you couldn't get bigger at the moment than Goldie Lookin' Chain, regardless of what you think of their music. Back in August, we had Cuba's Asere, Sons And Daughters, Blazin' Fiddles and Bert Jansch to name a few It goes wthout saying that not all of these will appeal to everyone, but it would hard to imagine a greater mix of genres, or greater balance between new artists, and those with vast back catolgues of highly regarded recordings. The Lemon Tree often comes in for criticism for putting on tribute bands, but these average out around two per month, which is not a huge portion of our programme. Furthermore they obviously appeal to some people as they are generally very well attended. I sincerely hope that there is at least something amongst the artists mentioned above that you find of merit. All the best Jamie

    refund?

Sorry Rob, but I'm afraid we don't give refunds because people can no longer make it to gigs. Can't you sell it on to a mate? We can try and resell it for you, but only once the rest of the allocation has gone.
  17. Didn't realise who you were Killamangiro, but I think I know now...I'm sure Im' due you a Bene and Hot.
  18. Hey Killamangiro (great name by the way), stop putting ideas in people's heads, there's enough blaggers round here already.
  19. Concessions Concessions are available to people who are claiming benefit or unemployed, in full-time education, over 60, disabled (and their companion) and members of entertainment unions (MU, Equity, AMA, AETTI, ABTT, etc). Proof of entitlement must always be shown.
  20. Sure are, going fast though, and sure to go quicker with the students coming back. Bloc Party New Rhodes Maximo Park Monday 25th October Doors Open 8pm/Support 8.30pm 6 (4 concessions and Regulars) Often bracketed with Franz Ferdinand due to their shared influences of Gang Of Four, Joy Division, Sonic Youth and The Pixies, Bloc Party are a band with a sound all of their own and one of the most exciting to emerge in 2004. As vital as The Clash in '77, as sinister as The Specials in '82 NME www.blocparty. com
