  1. James Yorkston and the Athletes +Adem Thursday 28th October Cafe Doors 9pm | support 9.30pm 7.50 (5 concessions & Regulars) Fife alt.folk troubadour James Yorkston hits the road in support of his new Kieran Hebden (Four Tet) produced album Just Beyond The River. It's the eagerly anticipated follow-up to his debut record, Moving Up Country, which was rapturously received on its release two years ago. James is a former member of the band Huckleberry and an associate of the Fence Collective, whose bucolic, acoustic sound is very much in tune with his own. http://www.lemontree.org/Music/event.cfm?eventid=2186&tempmonth=10
  2. Mory Kante Friday 22nd October Cafe Doors 9pm | Onstage 10pm 15 (10 concessions & Regulars) The Lemon Tree is delighted to welcome one of African music's very greatest stars with his acoustic band for what is bound to be an inspirational and uplifting performance. The first African artist to sell a million singles with Yeke Yeke, which topped charts all over Europe in 1988, he is an exceptionally talented griot from Guinea in West Africa and was a contemporary of Salif Keita in the legendary Rail Band supergroup of the '70s. His new album is a return to his acoustic roots after a series of high-tech fusion recordings. Guitar, apart his current lineup features only West African instruments - balafon, kora, percussion and vocals - in a beautiful kaleidoscope of sound. "Kante's waterfall of percussion, swirled towards the high-pitched harmonies of his backing vocalists, found counterpoints in poignant wooden flute and the balafon's enchanted plinking. It was like peering under the lid of a West African music box, with Kante and his soaring tenor at the centre." - Evening Standard http://www.lemontree.org/Music/event.cfm?eventid=2185&tempmonth=10
  3. Hookers Green No. 1 plus special guests Saturday 16th October Cafe Doors 9pm | support 9.30pm 5 (3.25 concessions & Regulars) Dear Mother, Long time no gas. Hookers Green are set to play The Lemon Tree again. Flamboyant in life, their blunders cost them their lives but gained everlasting fame. Their defeat at Little Bighorn made the lives of what would have been obscure 19th century military figures into countless songs, books and paintings. Their widows did what they could to further their reputation, writing laudatory accounts of their lives that portrayed them as military geniuses. Countless paintings of their "Last Stand" depicted them as gallant victims, surrounded by bloodthirsty savages hellbent upon their annihilation. Souvaris and Uter were drafted into the bargain, but their souls were kept as contraband. http://www.lemontree.org/Music/event.cfm?eventid=2184&tempmonth=10

Croft No. 5 Saturday 2nd October Caf Doors 9pm | Onstage 10pm 6 (4 concessions & Regulars) Croft No. 5, Scotland's favourite high energy trad-funksters hit the road to showcase their long overdue second album. With a slimmed down five piece line-up, featuring accordion, synths, whistles, sax, guitars, bass, drums and samples, the band's cross-cultural instrumental sound moves to include Eastern European influences as well as their Highland roots, described as a cross between a Celtic Gotan Project and The Red Hot Chili Peppers. "Enough to finish a Saturday night off anywhere" **** - Q "You'll find them fascinating, horrifying or both." - Time Out, USA "they go from strength to strength, making lots of noise, perfecting their mixture of traditional sounding tunes with very un-traditional funked-up rhythm section " - The Times http://www.lemontree.org/Music/event.cfm?eventid=2182&tempmonth=10
  7. Salsa Night in aid of Veninos (Venezuelan Children in Need) Thursday 30th of September Caf Doors 8pm (1st hour is a dance lesson) All tickets 7.50 Don't miss this Salsa night in aid of Venios - Venezuelan children in need! The first hour will be a Salsa lesson for those who are not quite sure about the steps. And if you prefer not to dance, come and watch all those who love to dance to the amazing rhythms of Latin America - there will be demonstration dancers too. The best Latin Rhythms will be provided by the Colombian DJ Mauricio who has been promoting Latin Culture in Aberdeen for two years. He is well known by enthusiasts of Salsa, Merengue and other Latin American dances for selecting the best music at his events. He also does a show on 105.8 Me FM the radio of diversity - which broadcasts for short periods throughout the year. Venios aims to aid and protect disadvantaged children and young people from poor urban areas of Venezuela. Though Venezuela was, until recently, the third largest oil-producing country in the world the wealth from oil has not done much for the large number of children who live in shanty towns or on the streets and have no stable family life. These children and young people are particularly vulnerable and enabling them to break out of the cycle of poverty and crime is very important to us at Venios. All profits raised from this event will go directly to projects. UK Charity number 1099517 Registered address: Venios, Suite 104, 105 London Street, Reading, RG1 4QD. http://www.lemontree.org/Music/event.cfm?eventid=2180&tempmonth=9
  8. Mylo+Freeform Five Monday 27th September The Lemon Tree Doors 8.30pm | Support 9pm 6 (4 concessions & Regulars) Skye's Myles MacInnes debut album, Destroy Rock & Roll, released on his own Breastfed Records is being touted as a serious contender for album of the year in many quarters. Mylo's sound is characterised by sophisticated electro stabs, classy breaks and fat bottomed bass lines reflecting his influences range from Prince through to Daft Punk and even Scissor Sisters while he also heavily indulges a penchant for 80's soft rock samples. "the most startling, fresh sounding electronic album of the year" - Jockey Slut "pure dancefloor destroying perfection" - Q "a coherent and utterly charming dance-angled album, which is easily the equal of Roykspp's Melody AM or The Avalanches' Since I Left You." - The Observer http://www.lemontree.org/Music/event.cfm?eventid=2181&tempmonth=9

  16. Me, sound check is sounding superb.
  17. Had a listen to the track that's on their website. Quite anguished sounding, mind you it's had to get a proper impression as the sound quality through my computer isn't the best - tiny speaker - all treble nae bass.

For some fashion-building British psych-blues - look no further." - http://www.boomkat.com/item.cfm?merchID=14472 Clinic: plus Archie Bronson Outfit Tuesday 27 July 2004 The Lemon Tree Tickets 7.50 (5 concessions & Regulars) Box Office: 01224 642230 Doors Open: 8pm Show Starts: 8.30pm Drawing on a diverse range of musical sources, but paying particular mind to the work of the Velvet Underground and Suicide, Clinic's inventive "cut-up" approach to music provides a welcome relief to the grey mediocrity of the post-millenial independent music scene. Formed in liverpool in 1997, they signed to Domino records after three independent releases. Their heady mixture of drone-rock, psychedelia, doo-wop and psychobilly has drawn rave reviews for their two albums to date with their greatly anticipated third already nestling snugly in the bomb-bay.
