Well so I didn't get to heavily into all the maths side of things I kept it simple so folk who don't know too much theory could join in, but just to back up my original post: Firstly I was referring to lead melodies a la Iron Maiden, NOT chordal structures. Generally you would harmonise in diatonic thirds - as continuous parallel thirds, (whether major or minor) sounds terrible. So assuming you are playing in the key of E minor, and therefore harmonising in thirds, you would actually be playing major third harmonies to over half the notes, even though you are sticking within the "minor third" harmony. E > G = minor third F# > A = major G > B = major A > C = minor B > D = minor C > E = major D > F# = major Therefore, in a lead melody (assuming you are playing a variation of notes) you would neither be playing constant major OR minor thirds. Hence why I didn't say "Harmonising in minor thirds, cheesy or awesome" However I am sure you know all this. Also, not meaning to be picky, but you said "in my original post" but then quoted my second post... ?( so apologies if I haven't replied correctly.

I'd say awake is probably the worst place to start regarding dream theater. Get "scenes from a memory" then "Images and Words" then download 'glass prison' (from six degrees of inner turbulance) then " Falling Into Infinity" then "Change Of Seasons" you really don't need too much else. Except the DVD which is awesome...

Well think of it like this, There are 8 notes in a 'normal' scale (if you include the root note an octave up from the original note) therefore from the root note, all following notes in a scale are gonna have different intervals in relation to it. So in the key of C major: C - root D - 2nd E - 3rd F - 4th G - 5th A - 6th B - 7th C - Root an octave up Therefore the E note is the third to C.

Rob, you're missing one BIG element when comparing MMW to Kris and Co. - and that is that there is a significant difference between coming across as an asshole on the message boards, and and alienating yourself in reality. Regardless of how much of a dick people think any of MMW are on the boards, I can assure you that we are all decent people off aberdeen-music.com (and I'm sure you know this... ). That's not say that AW aren't decent people - more so the fact that they have alienated themselves from people who they were once on good terms with. Where as I'm pretty sure anyone that we care about - or has cared about us - hasn't changed their opinion of us as people due to our stupid internet based banter.

I remember when there was a thread called 'ratings' (where everyone rated the local bands out of 10) you gave your own band - onion terror - a full marks 10 out of 10. Now if i was to rate a band, 10 would be absolutely shit hot, so you were either humouring yourself or genuinely believing you are a 10 out of 10 band. Which is not too dissimilar from what Ben was saying in his post.... From the very start you have been trying your hardest not to like MMW, which doesn't really bother me, because if you don't like us that's cool. It's just I find it ironic that people who don't care about our band read a thread CLEARLY about weapon just to slander us or tell us that we are being big-headed, when they were obviously not going say anything positive.

You see, this is the thing that amazes me. You say Jamesy is a nice guy in person - yet the way you percieve him on here is more important to you than reality. Why can't people understand that this is JUST A FUCKING MESSAGE BOARD. It's a laugh. Yes, Weapon have self belief but it's fun to exaggerate that on something like a message board. This was a thread clearly about My Minds Weapon, if you don't like what Jamesy has to say then you didn't have to read it - as I highly doubt you read the thread for a weapon update. You haven't even seen the band live, so I honestly think you should just come to the gig on the 11th and see what we're really about, rather than judging everything you see and hear from internet personas.

HAHAHAHAHA! That is a pretty fromagey album.... I bought it in France nearly 4 years ago! The first proper track is quite good but it's not that great an album. For fucks sake they called it Demons and Wizards! Oh, and yeah "The Oddessey" by Symphony X is probably my favourite prog album ever! Awesome.
