  1. Yeah...I haven't heard that before - and I can't watch it but that sounds like genius! I actually remember hearing the *zippy voice* "I've got a big red one!" before... So thank you for posting that cos I never saw the old thread

    Band Sites

Isn't it obvious Dave? Let me explain: the website is for 5FD = 5FD are a band = a band plays music = music = music and therefore belongs in the music discussion forum
  3. Marty Friedman's picking technique is even weirder than Al Pitrelli's! Friedman ACTUALLY looks disabled when he picks but he is the most awesome guitarist ever... And Mac's right, they don't call me Dan "holds the pick in the wrong fingers" Atom, for nothing..... Actually, they don't call me that at all
  4. well for all of you who aren't overly familiar with all their stuff, here's what I think their best stuff is...(in order from best to worst) Rust In Peace - My favourite, and the most technically awesome album. Peace Sells...But Whose Buying? - A couple of weaker songs near the end but some amazing speed metal Countdown To Extinction - 3 equally ace albums, all with their moments of genius. So Far So Good...So What! Youthanasia Hidden Treasures - Worth the price for 'Breakpoint' and '99 ways to Die' alone The World Needs A Hero - 3 just above average albums. Killing Is My Business...And Business Is Good! Cryptic Writings Risk - Pretty poop if you ask me.
  5. Friedman is a much better guitarist than Hammett, techically anyway. I would agree that some of Hammett's stuff had more feeling, but Marty Friedman used awesome choice of notes and really exotic scales that no one else could copy or sound like. Hammett has his own style and it's ace, but it's easy to copy/rip off - whereas Friedman is just out there on his own.
  6. ...are fucking awesome. I haven't listened to them in a little while, but just hearing listening songs like Break Point, Architecture Of Aggression, Lucretia, Set The World Afire and Black Friday this morning reminded me of how truly ace they were. And (other than their name) they weren't cheesy at all... despite what anyone says. Marty Friedman was a totally awesome guitarist. So was Mustaine for that matter... There was no other band that sounded like them... although they got a bit shoddy after 94's Youthanasia (I still love that album though - I got it on my 12th Birthday!) Man, I wish they could churn out another Rust In Peace.
  7. But what at all does "the potential to make it" have anything at all to do with reputation in the wasteland? Why would our "reputation in the wasteland" ever affect our success as a band? We've got a gig in Glasgow carling academy coming up soon, and I very much doubt that the crowd will be like "but I read on the wasteland that they're assholes"... This I find ironic. Why could you not be bothered with all the guff that would surround your band, yet you're happy to take part in the guff that surrounds someone else's band? Too many people shoot MMW down for being outspoken, but are then more than willing to join in arguments and list a million reasons why so-and-so is an asshole, which I find hypocritical. I think that is a pretty stupid comment, because being a "better band" has NOTHING to do with how you are seen by a few people on a message board. That is unless you believe that aberdeen and the wasteland's perception of you, is the be all and end all of being a 'successful' band. Which would completely contradict your "I couldn't be bothered with all the guff" comment. I'm not trying to be overly-defensive, I just think that for every person that tells us that we should tone down or whatever, just gives us reason to respond - therefore continuing your aforementioned "inane mmw ramblings vs aberdeen music scene" comment.
  8. Happy Birthday Lenjamin! This means you are 22 now which is almost 24 and a half. That means you're nearly 30. Fuck dude, you're nearly 10 years older than me. See you on thursday, gramps!
  9. I agree, Neil is fucking awesome. So much so that I needed a vulgarity to get my point across.
  10. That's not parallel thirds... that's diatonic thirds Parallel thirds would be harmonizing every note in either minor or major thirds like this: (guitar 1) D ----1----2----4----6----7----9-- (guitar 2) A ----2----3----5----7----8----10-- That would sound totally minging... Diatonic thirds (i.e. iron Maiden) would be like this: (guitar 1) D ----0----2----3----5----7----9-- (guitar 2) A ----2----3----5----7----8----10-- Assuming you're playing in A minor, diatonic refers to all the harmonizing notes (guitar 2) to correspond to the notes in the A minor scale. Therefore the intervals between the notes played by guitar 1 and guitar 2 varies from minor and major thirds. In parallel however, the intervals would stay the same (in the furthest above case, major thirds) and therefore not work as you'd be playing notes outside the key.
  11. Ladies, ladies - you're all as bad as each other.
  12. happy birthday captain! As a special birthday treat, I will make up a song for you: There was a young boy called mouse, He lived in sausage roll house. thats all I've got so far.
  13. Sorry chief, I didn't mean it in a nasty way! But I know the various levels of theory knowledge of people who post here differs greatly; i.e if you explain stuff in too much detail you get lynched for being too mathematical, and then it gets picked up on if you don't go into enough detail! haha, can't win I suppose...
  14. Ok, prog metal fans, here is some music that I'm pretty sure none of you will honestly be familiar with: The band? Bal Sagoth... you may have seen their warhammer-esque artwork. Anyway, I bought one of their albums 6 years ago - "Battle Magic" and I actually love it. Vocally it is a cross between black metal and king arthur. Musically it sounds like a sound track for the cavelry to charge to. They also have ridiculous song titles... Anway, if you want to check them out, my favourite song by them is (deep breath)... "The Dark Leige Of Chaos Is Unleashed At The Encorcelled Shrine Of A' Zura Kai (The Splendour Of A Thousand Swords Gleaming Beneath The Blazon of The Hypoborean Empire Part II) In places it is good solid metal, in other places it sounds like music that you hear at the river rapids in Alton Towers.... but wait! "That sounds like utter SHITE!" I hear you say.... well trust me it's ace!
  15. Lets pour manual a big glass of shut-up juice for infecting a thread with an unncessary post.

    Wow

Hahaha...well spotted! It was originally a typo but I left it in to see if anyone would question it (I could have checked on the web if I didn't actually know how to spell his name) I reckon that must be one of the most frequently asked rock quiz questions... "Who is Ian Fraser Kilmister?"
  20. knock knock whos there? the KKK, who's house is this? um...not Leroys.

  23. Dan G

    Wow

Ian Kilminster if we're getting into specifics... I nearly got into the Hellacopters around 1997/98 as I was a big fan of the Backyard Babies then. Who unfortunately will never better their 'Total 13' and 'Safety pin, Leopard Skin' releases... Man I still remember ALL the lyrics to "Bad Machine" and "Bombed Outta My Mind"... Oh! and the awesome cover of faster pussycats' Babylon featuring Ginger. P-P-P-Pussycat...SHUT UP!!! Ahh...those were the days.
  24. Dan G

    Wow

I do... The Motor City 5, late 60's/70's rock band from Detroit... (hence the name) I have THREE versions of the 1969 classic "kick out the jams" NONE actually by the MC5. (Monster Magnet, Entombed and Rage Against The Machine all do the honours) Nicke Royale (nee Andersson) of the Hellacopters was the drummer of Entombed at the time they covered it (around 1997), as a track on the bonus CD which came with the special addition of "To Ride Shoot Straight And Speak The Truth" - which I might add I bought as soon as it came out. There's your connection. Don't worry Mr Lucifer, I know where you're coming from
