  1. and if sharon's fitting into a small, better make mine just a medium
  2. why can't you get into dos mode? does the pc boot at all? usually pressing F8 after the bios screen gives you a text-based menu that gives you an option to boot into dos.
  3. apologies if i'm stating the obvious, but have you tried the aberdeen box office next to the music hall? I know that many online ticket agencies sold out of standing tickets whilst the aberdeen box office still had many left (this was about a week ago i think).
  4. i assumed rob was being sarcastic. since when did starfall have a real drummer? this i would go to see.
  5. i thought it was rather funny myself. Personal opinion only, but I consider synthesizers an area of experimentation anyway - there is no teaching. If you were offering piano/keyboard lessons, then fair enough. Are you offering an introduction to synth technology, i.e. MIDI, sound modules, synth software/hardware, etc.? If so, perhaps you should make that clearer.
  6. that's impressive!!! they bought the domain that your typo creates and redirect you to the correct site!!
  7. wonderboy are no longer playing and have been replaced by Page Six. We are onstage at 8:45pm. taaa.
  8. this is tonight! please come along! i'm hungover.
  9. anyone got a number for aberdeen forum?
  10. I think the other bands playing on the night are Double Jack and Wonderboy.
  11. well, i think i've seen seen therapy? five times now and i've never seen them do a bad show. each time they've at least played a couple of tracks from nurse, while throwing up unplayed favourites from semi-detached/infernal love as well. haven't seen them as a three piece yet though...
  12. 12.50 from the above website including booking fee etc etc
  13. Another option to take is to buy a MIDI keyboard, and a sound module to plug it into. That could give you more extensibility in the long run. I'm sure both can be found at reasonable prices on ebay.
  14. err yeah, i was kind of worrying about that today, as i counted up the amount of DI boxes we'll need. do you know how many there are in drummonds? my ball park figure was that we'd need 5 (including one for the bass). though i think we could cope with four.
  15. Yes, it seems the letters on my t-shirt are finally beginning to crack up. Ah well, all good things must come to an end. Lifeshade have changed their name, and the band itself, somewhat. Lifeshade are now known as DEAR JOHN. In the last year we have strived to integrate more technology into both our recordings and our live set. The latter part took longer than we expected. Ahem. For a sample of the kind of material we may play live, please have a listen to a song featured on the fudge fanzine before last: Keep Us Apart Playing live, we will be using samplers, keyboards, drum machines, anything we can really get our hands on and plug in. We will of course still be the complete live band we were before. Our set will feature a lot of new material, as well as some reworked songs from our past. We have our first gig in over a year at Cafe Drummonds on Monday 4TH OCTOBER. It's part of the battle of the bands thingy. As such we won't know what time we are playing until the night itself. If you had an interest in Lifeshade a while ago, please come down and support us, we'd love to have someone to play to. If you have never heard of us and have an interest in loud/rocky/electronic music, then again, please consider coming down to see us on the 4th October. Ta Paul
  16. hells bells, an ac dc tribute band, are playing the lemon tree next friday.
  17. yeah my brother gave me a copy of this a couple of months ago. i've only listened to it a couple of times before, but i thought it was quite good. isn't it something to do with dr octagon as well? i might just be making that up.
  18. i think my wee desk is the folio notepad as well. what i have been doing today is putting a distortion effect in the FX send loops. on my mixer, the FX volume (global, not per channel) is up at max. With that done, I plug the mic into channel 1. The preamp and volume on channel 1 are normally up quite high (around 3pm), though sometimes the pre amp is less. With that, I usually twiddle the channel 1 fx knob to my taste, along with altering the distortion effect. for my distortion effect i was using a line 6 pod pro unit, but you can use anything, flanger, chorus, delay pedals, etc. make sure you are using a pop shield if possible. i've found that my sm58 sounds 100x better when using one for singing at any volume, though it doesn't matter so much for quiet stuff. my first attempt at a pop shield was double wrapped cling film with lots of holes poked in it, wrapper around a coat hanger. this was still way better than using no pop shield at all, i promise! hope that helps. in my experience, vocals coming straight out of my sm58 and into the desk sound quite boring unless it is a totally ripping vocal, which is why i often use an effect. oh wait, it could just be that my voice sounds like shit.
  19. apparently, that beautifully elfish woman from the lord of the rings will be compering tonight, telepathically.
