  1. i'm sure the radio session ones are bbc sessions, i remember in 1994 after kurt cobain died, jo whiley and steve lamacq played them. the version of endless nameless is really good. i think D7 also appears on a japanese import called 'hormoaning' or something, sure i picked it up in one-up second hand years ago.
  2. page four in the p&j today had a piece on stuff. rather complimentary. big colourful picture of kathryn sawyers.
  3. i had great fun, highlights for me were the sawyers, and i suppose ursula major were quite good and i might see them again. loved the cutout fun at the tent, and i've never smelt portaloos fresher than those that we were with graced night. thanks and well done to the organisers, though having started drinking at 6pm, i now feel a little woozy. amy sawyers bass player had a immense sounding sound, i'd love to know what sort of stuff he was using. i think i spied a line6 filter unit.
  4. is this the one on thursday? i seem to remember something about frogs, and i'm a big cocteau twins fan. he's a magnet for good shows my bro.
  5. i thought it was brilliant too! if i was a dj, i'd play it.
  6. having problems with your frontman? ego getting too much? Yamaha seems to have the answer! http://www.yamaha.co.jp/product/vocaloid/en/ A piece of software that recreates the human singing voice, male or female!! i'm worried! listen to some of the samples, it's quite staggering what it can do. http://www.yamaha.co.jp/product/vocaloid/demos/mahou_no_kurukuru_128.mp3 http://www.yamaha.co.jp/product/vocaloid/demos/yukigeshiki_128.mp3 The first one is a full song, and sounds not a million miles from Mr Bungle doing Bohemian Rhapsody the second one is short but quite breathtaking, the harmonies are almost bjrk like. imagine they stuffed one of these things in that honda robot, we could see the birth of ... robocore!
  7. taking what you said above as a possibly overused example, i think a lot of people feel jaded about activism because the protest of 500,000 - 1,000,000 people in london, and the opinions and gut feeling of a nation, failed to stop the government entering into the coalition that attacked iraq. rightly or wrongly, i'm sure a lot of people think, "how much difference is it actually going to make?". i agree with most of your post above though.
  8. i wonder how you secure a marquee on cobbled stones.
  9. i like the fact that it starts during the day. that band from scotland sound good, the one with a k, or the ones who come from somewhere with a k, oh i don't know, should be interesting. yay for the bar!
  10. i just wanted to check... will there be a bar in the marquee? it seems such a silly thing to ask, i mean, what's a marquee with no bar.... but i have to check....
  11. complains about deep linking, probably cos this site is the referer. try going to http://www.funender.com/music/bands/1045/ and downloading the tracks manually instead.
  12. if you really want to make a difference, lobby the government to get a move on with human cloning, cos it sounds like you just want five versions of yourself. mind you, by that time you'll be over 25 probably, so you'll be of no use to yourself. you may have also outgrown the manics by that point. the stress of having to survive in the real world may have started you smoking by that point - in which case you'd probably start moaning at the government about tax on tobacco and cigarettes, which will turn you to the SSP! Christ, it's looking pretty grim! alternatively, you could just start writing music that is good, then all the people you want for a band will probably come knocking at your door. in my experience, being in a band is about making compromises to keep everyone content, manifesting the creative side of your mind, but most of all - having fun with people you like, playing to people who appreciate why you are doing what you do.
  13. thanks for all the feedback. i do most of my mixing with a really old hifi, and some fairly average speakers right in front of my face. however, i find that referencing the headphones against the hifi, and picking somewhere in between, gets me the best mix. luckily the hifi has a 5 band eq instead of preset eqs, so setting everything flat gives a fairly honest mix. at the end of the day, it's the isolation i'm looking for. i hate listening to my vocals tracks on solo only to find some tinny wish wash of a mix rustling about in the background.
  14. well i was looking at these. The headphones are only ever going to be used for recording stuff. but of course i do e.q. a lot of the stuff post recording stages.
  15. Looking for some advice for buying a decent pair of comfy cans. My current ones are giving up the ghost and are very noisy. More worried about the headphones not leaking loads of sound than anything else, as they're to be used for monitoring whilst recording, mostly. My budget is probably up at around 100 quid max. I've looked at a couple of different pairs of Sennheiser, but also AKG as well. Anyone got any tips or advice? ta
  16. Actually, you can. If power walking is good enough for Harold Bishop, then it's good enough for you.
  17. not to knock it, because i think demudi and agnula are great ways to get multimedia distributions, but the rate of change in the audio arena is so fast that i find Gentoo can't even keep up. this is especially true of ardour and zynaddsubfx. do you do much audio / video work on linux? i recently tried mainactor for video work, and it's really, really slick - unfortunately it costs about 150 quid!
  18. universal is ace. if i was in glasgow, that's where i'd go.
  19. hmm, accidentally caught the neil leyton set at drummonds quite a while back, and though it was actually quite alright. seemed to remember them having a good sound on the night. until some really terrible backing singers turned up (hoho just kidding). who was the backing band last time then?
  20. ... someone called Emma Macaulay? I have some personal effects of hers which she may want back.
