  4. Well initially it was Adam & the Ants - but I really got into Acid Reign in my teens.
  5. Aye I have Foundation Rockers, from which the Big Youth track was taken. I've also got Volcanic Dub or whatever the name is. One Up always seem to have some of his stuff on vinyl. Ryan (Twilight Circus) along with The Bug is one of the more interesting acts in the dub / dancehall / roots scene these days.
  6. The LTree cant be a real charity. I mean they dont have people with clipboards and bibs standing outside HMV bugging the happiness of passers by for a wee direct debit.... Yep the black arts of a/countancy, corporate finance, public sector politics, charity and corporate law and arts funding are a little less than transparent. Of course we could privitise everything - I mean its not as if PLCs get large subsidies. Well apart from Stagecoach, Firstgroup and National Express to name but three....

  9. Oh God no ! I think we were offered 150 each for entertaining him - and we would have got a bonus if we had got some other mates as well. All very bizzare coming from a wee middle aged man to me and my mate who were both a foot taller than him. I have the feeling that wee middle aged man might have made recordings of what he got up to. Who said Adeen was dull ? Dave
  10. I was also force fed Johnny Cash, Willie Nelson, Boxcar Willie, The Corries, Kenny Rogers and Scottish Country Dance muzak, Dave
  11. Well it has to be Dr Hook - I heard one of his albums constantly as a kid and still sing along to most of their "classics".
  12. Strangely that reminds me of the time my mate and I were mistaken for rent boys when we were eating our kebabs at Holburn Junction. NB Mr Chilli and carnations were not involved though to be honest...
  13. In no order at all... Lee Perry - Super Ape The Congos - Heart of the Congos Scientist - Heavyweight Dub Champion / Meets the space invaders Prince Alla - Only love will conquer King Tubby - Dub Gone Crazy Skatalites - Foundation Ska Prince Far I - Psalms for I Prince Buster - Fabulous Greatest Hits U Roy - Version of wisdom 100 % & 500 % Dynamite on Soul Jazz Records Trojan Roots - Box Set There are numerous individual tracks spanning 50s Jamican Rn B , ska, rocksteady, roots, dub, dancehall, ragga, nyambinghi etc etc that I could mention as well. Oh and someone called Bob Marley did some decent recordings and had a great voice etc Can you tell I was doing a dub compilation last night ? Dave
  14. Aye the Tivoli was closed last doors open day - I think it was in too bad a state. I was in it the previous year @ DOD, and it needed a whole dollop of work done to it but still had a little compact charm... Dave
  15. If anyone wants an nice guide to Studio One recordings then start buying some Soul Jazz Studio One compilations....
  16. I've always eaten the furry bit of the kiwi. Tis lovely. A great flavour when combined with the kiwi's insides...
  17. Would you pay a pound to text a big screen at a gig ? I suppose you could always text Mr Lone Pigeon to say that he has been on stage on for 2 hours and finished about 2 songs and perhaps he should call it a night ! Or to communicate with Mark E Smith from a safe distance ? "While I'm on the subject of last night - the Astoria has come up with a genius way of harvesting cash from drunk gig goers. Two giant screens to which you can text messages. At 1 a pop. In what universe is it worth 1 to see "Bob Sux Cox" on a big screen? Or "Portsmouth Rule"? I'd say that 75% of the messages were of the 'xxx is gay' variety, 10% of the 'xxx United are s**t' type, 10% were 'xxx is sexy', and 5% were genuinely quite entertaining. ('I can't believe that people are paying 1 to put their messages on this screen. Oh. S**t.')" - from Casper @ http://boards.fool.co.uk/Message.asp?mid=8539543
  18. Its a little known fact that Chilli closed the Tivoli with his stand up performances....
  19. I wonder if Luke Sutherland (from Lin Fin Killie / Bows) will pop in by to see Kasule after he has finished at the Ltree ? Dave
  20. My Gran - "If you dont pass your exams I'll come back and haunt you" - this worked....
  21. Here is a link to a recent report on funding "The Arts" in the UK etc http://www.culturalpolicy.arts.gla.ac.uk/Research%20documents/Cultstats_spendingbriefing_Apr04.pdf http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/3698315.stm
  22. Cavern Jim has a story about Lee Perry at a Glasgow hotel that Jim was staying at...
  23. Is Gil Scott Heron still performing ? - I remember there was rumours that he had got a really bad crack habit, hence his last cancelled Ltree performances, Dave
  24. You should have a look at the Daily Mail sometime ! Middle class, smug, ignorant, family orientated, conservative - a daily version of the Readers Digest. And full of crap about celebs, the royal family. Well to be honest I would be a bit surprised if the Ltree made a profit - its a charity after all which caters for a diverse range of tastes. We've all seen some great things there so lets hope they continue to operate for another decade. Lets hope their financial management improves from now on... Dave
