There is also the compilation called "Post Punk" by Rough Trade - which looks pretty good at introducing lots of rather fine bands to those of us too young the first time around... Oh and The Fire Engines and Pere Ubu may be worth a try as well.... Dave

the best way would be to go your nearest public library and look for some of the names I suggested - Chill EB I found on an Alt Tent sampler, Dalek on a magazine sampler and French Hip Hop on a library browse.

The Pro Ject debut turntable is great quality and only about 140 squids new. You could get this 2nd hand on Ebay as well if you are lucky ! I've had mine for about 2 years with no problems and great sound..

Chill EB, Cannibal Ox and Dalek are all hip hop artists who can be quite political at times - maybe check out Smiley Culture The Beatnigs, and Gil Scott Heron as well. French and African HH are always worth pursuing as well !
