  1. i was in a lecture in kings during that took us about five minutes to come to the decision 'yep, it is an actualy alarm, we should probably get out' and actually get outside i thought the guy outside was saying somethign about not walking on the grass, at least thats what someone else said when i asked them what he had just said (having missed it myself) 10:15 every wednesday they set of the alarms, i was always in a lecture at that point last year (probably why we took so long to move when there was an actual drill) David
  2. the cartoons and trading cards and toys i can do without the games rock though, excellent fun to play, i finally got round to getting one of the newer ones (sapphire) a couple of months ago which rocks David
  3. I see you remembered all capital letters and punctuation. David
  4. a booster sounds like a good idea, i live in airyhall and get all the channels you mentioned fine, so i am assuming mannofield should be no different David
  5. any chance of a first bus? (month passes are great ) David
  6. anyone know what bus i would need to take to get there from town? just to be annoying its a sunday i want to get down there for a while David
  7. mcfly are pretty damn good yes they are a pop band, but as long as its good pop music, whats wrong with it? they can actually play their instruments and write everything too which is cool only heard the new song once, and didnt like it as much as the last one though, a few more listens and i will probably like it better though David
  8. not all pensioners are evil old people, same as every other group of people, i know more than enough arrogant arseholes my age, cocky little kids or countless other groups of age/social status/race i also know more than enough cool people. just because someone dresses like a ned or is old and smells of wee dosent mean they are nescessarily a bad person my grandparents are all lovely, and from doing a paper round i remember most of the customers being pensioners and pretty much everyone was really nice and friendly, out of the whole round i remember rather a lot more of the 'younger' couples (20's/30's) who seemed like arrogant arseholes who couldnt care less i did notice the other day that out of a whole bus full of pensioners, only one had a non beige coat (namely a light blue one) David
  9. i may be very interested, just need to see if i can get it past the parents first... David
  10. the 6505 is the exact same thing as the 5150 when evh left he took the 5150 name, so they rebadged the amp 6505 (the year speavey have been in business - 1965 - 2005 so far) but all the internals are exactly the same ithat was what they were saying when evh left, dont know about any newer 'improvements' to the amp David
  11. more red dwarf they have released series 1-6, so i am still waiting on 7/8 to be in the shops. they have been realesing them every six months for the last few years though, series 7 out in november (i have it preordered, since i read the realese date wrongly on the bbc site and thought it was out in september, so promptly ordered it from amazon, it shall be here upon release though) David
  12. one thing that pisses me off at gigs is the volume levels, drop the volume down a little, it would keep my ears healthier (i wear earplugs to all the gigs i go to now after being very pissed off with ringing ears after every gig) and let you hear the music clearer it wouldnt need to be too much, there is a point of volume where it is still loud, but not ear destroyingly loud and smoking, i hate it at the best of times, but smoking while standing in a busy crowd? yeah smoke all you like (i may hate it but its not illegal yet) when standing at the back where everyone is just watching, but having a fag haninging out your mouth when wandering through the busy more enthusiastic crowd? just a matter of time before some unlucky person gets the lit end jabbed into them... tall people and so on, yeah it is fucking annoyig when someone moves into the crowd and stand right infront of you where they can block as much of your view as possible, but yes, a few steps either way can usually fix the problem, but please do try and be nice to other people, if i have gone for a drink i will usually try not to stand right infront of someone and block their view singing and so on, as long as they arent singing right in your ear its easy enough to just listen to the music and block them out, the volumes are loud enough... talking to people at gigs, yeah, a bit silly when a band is playing (apart from the normal recognition of friends or sorrys or whatever) but during a break at the bar or whatever, its just being sociable and polite, i quite like talking to all the odd people you meet, talking about the band that just played or whatever else you like, just being friendly and nice, sure if you want to be an unsociable bastard, your choice, just be polite and make some excuse... David
  13. fender strats (usually 70's withteh big headstock) - right handed ones reversed and restrung vox wah dallas arbiter fuss face univibe mayer octavia marshall superleads i think thats usually what he used, he did play about with other amps, but usually with the marshalls, and same goes for guitars, as he did use gibsons sometimes for looking to recreate his sounds, for bedroom playing the digitech hendrix looks decent, with a load of hendrixey sounds, for a more 'pro' setup, the foxrox captain coconut is a great pedal, with the main effects in one box (vibe/fuzz/octave) add that to a strat and marshall and away you go (with the possible niclusion of a wah pedal too) David
  14. when i did my test i had done enough for the multiple choice bits, but had only really found out about the hazard perception a day or two before doing mock tests at the bsm shoppy on on union street, i knew what i was looking for, but frankly had no clue as when i was actually supposed to be clicking or whatever, so i just scraped a pass on theat bit and did fairly well on the multiple choice definately recommended to get some practise in beforehand, i wish i had... i know you can get dvds, and as i was learnign with a bsm instructor they have the place on union street with mock tests and so on set up, so definately have a look at those still took me two goes to do the real test though, though that was due to a stupid mistake, and buggering up the reverse parking (after i knew i had made a stupid mistake ) the second time it went fine, except for the fact i had no clue where we were going - during lessons the instructor took me round all the routes they use in tests, just when i took the test it was someone from glasgow covering someone being ill, so went a completely different route... David
  15. its aesthetic, ecc83 valves dont really glow that much, so even when the valves are working away properly, some companys will still light them up a little to make it look better, not bad design or the valves being purely for marketing, but just boosting the image of the product i still dont know how much effect the valves in the things like the marshall valvestates actually do though... David
  16. buy a set of hair clippers and get a friend to do it (not exactly rocket science) 20 or whatever they are to buy them, and no more paying for haircuts again judging by the almighty mane of hair you currently have i cant imagine they do much more than go over it with a set of slippers anyway... David
  17. only slight problem being the fact the bbc only have half the controller... it also involves a sensor near the screen to detect movement and so on too i think, it actually looks rather cool, it will definately be interesting to see how it works out, compared to a normal controller shape it will be cool to see the new nintendo console, i loved the N64 - awesome games like mario 64, goldeneye, mariocart, zelda, etc, and trhe gamecube was aweomse, though i never really got into it (i have had other things i wanted to do with my time - more time spent online, etc...) someday i really need to go and buy a load of games for it and start playing again goldeneye is still a brilliant multiplayer game, even if it is pretty outdated now with newer fancier games with better graphics or gameplay or whatever, the gameplay is still brilliant fun David
  18. the biggest thing i have bought recently was a new hifi (my old cd player died, so i got a good excuse to upgrade) - a rather lovely marantz cd deck and power amp, using some speakers i got from a neighbour (rescued from being on the way to a jumble sale, sound pretty good anyway) which will probably be upgraded sometime a couple of cd's, the who's tommy being the last one i bought, before that i got coldplays X&Y and who's next and quadraphenia by the who, but they were a while ago a few dvds, namely the who's tommy, reservoir dogs, trainsportting and some red dwarf a few sandwiches from the beautiful mountain (tuna and lime with the gluten free bread) tickets for gigs, reel big fish, dragonforce and the youthmovie soundtrack strategies and one of the gripmaster thingys for strengthening you hands/fingers, good fun for playing about with in lectures (ie you can still half listen to the lecture) and i ordered the new book from www.toothpastefordinner.com last week, but it will be a while before it actually gets here thats about all i can think of at the moment David
  19. check the desk has a line output (quite likely in the form of 2 1/4 jacks or the like) then all you would need is a cable for 2 mono 1/4 -> 1 stereo 3.5mm jack easy to make if you are handy with a soldering iron after a quick visit to maplins for the parts (the two hot signals to the tip and ring connections, the two grounds both to the sleeve connection) David
  20. you might actually mention what amp it is.. an AVT100? David
  21. dear god, that is possibly the silliest dress i have ever seen the cake looks like it has been left in teh sun to melt for a while, the slightly wobblylean with allteh decorations slowing making their way southwards David
