  1. the guy in john lewis mentioned a local place that may be able to help fix it, just it has completely slipped my mind, any ideas? David
  2. yup, first thing i tried... now i own two pairs of headphones (admittedly handy when these do eventually go south) but the problem happened the same with both pairs David
  3. i tried some air cleaner at work the other day , which didnt really help i need to get hold of some deoxit or something and clean it properly David
  4. sony NW HD1 ipodish basically the headphones jack is either dirty or have come a bit loose on the pcb, if i move the headphones jack about (ie move the player) i get a crackley sound and it the sound can fade in/out a little i will try cleaning it if i can get my hands on any suitable cleaner, but i dont want to go opening the player up - my soldering skills are fine building a pedal or something, but i dont trust myself not to fry something like a walkman trying to resolder it... David
  5. the jack on my walkman has started going crackley which is rather annoying, i asked in john lewis (where i got it) and they mentioned somewhere that may be able to fix it (i dont think it shoudl be a hard job, just i dont want to go opening it up myself), but i completely forgot the name, any ideas what it could have been? David
  6. if he dosent want it, i do David
  7. to plug the record player into your pc, the easiest way would be to get a line level signal, usually decks dont have the preamp on board though, so you may want to take a line out from the poweramp (i know my hifi's poweramp has a preamp for record decks, and you can select the recording out - usually for tapes/cdr/minidisk decks but connecting it to pc will work fine) most likely using a 2xRCA phono -> 3.5mm (stereo) jack plug that into your pc, get some recording software (goldwave and audacity seemed to work for me - both free online) and record away you will then probably need to split up the huge file you will have recorded into tracks it might be worthwhile recording it as a wav, then burning it to cd too, so you have a backup/cd version, rather than straight to mp3 David

  9. i see no problem with what happened there yes you shouldnt touch a girl and all that, and i would never try to hurt someone or start any fights, but if you get attacked you deserve a right to defend yourself, whatever sex, generally ending up breaking someones wrist is extreme whatever the circumstances, and it would be preferrable to find some other way out, but that goes for either sex. the act of defending yourself is perfectly fine to me, it seems bloody stupid to just take a beating and not try to defend yourself equal rights and all that, handy when some female wants a job, but its still completely unacceptable to defend youself if attacked by a female? bullshit its bloody stupid that there is a notion that a female can attack someone physically and get off with it, purely because they are female David
  10. dBpoweramp should be able to help you, download that (and maybe an extra codec for running it with aac) then convert away David

  12. dropping from e to drop c on a guitar will adjust the tension on the neck, so you will retune it, then the neck will settle and will knock it out again - just because there will be such a change in tension the neck will actually move (the trusstrod will be adding enough tension to hold it in e, when you lower the tuning it will move the neck a bit) you have to just let it settle, if you were going to be playing only in drop c it would be a good idea to either adjust the truss rod (remove a little tension in it) or use a thicker set of strings (so they are back into a 'normal' tension when you are downtuned) David
  13. pretty pointless kids who want to smoke when they are under 16 seem to manage easily enough, i cant see raising the age two years will make the slightest different... David
