  1. They supported them at the Barrowlands, they seemed pretty groovy but I wasn't paying too much attention unfortunately. There's also a Soulwax connection, seeing as they both come from Belgium. But I will have to check out their new stuff, Josh Homme has been raving about it...
  2. Their new album is produced by Josh Homme, which would explain the QOTSA comparisons...
  3. Nowadays I'm a features sub-editor for The Herald, which is groovy.
  4. I'm planning on going, didn't know they were appearing until the sassy little girl gave me a flier after I'd seen some other acts. Moon Journey was ace, a bizarre musical which I can't really describe, here's the desciption: 'Experimental seventies band and unnatural phenomenon 'Triangle' excavate their legendary rock opus flop. Witness the prog-rock trio save the earth with mime and multimedia magic, on this loony lunar journey. Heavy socio-political content plus live cockatoos.' Has Perrier Award Winner Alice Lowe, who was in Garth Marenghi's Dark Place, I think the audience took a while to warm up to its surrealness, but once they got used to it it was great. Go go Burlesquo (sp?) was really good, I was worried about a bunch of sleazy guys showing up for the nudity, but it was a really good atmosphere and great performances, especially the girl doing swan lake while juggling hula-hoops. I guess you'll have to go along to see what I mean. In terms of comedy, Adam Buxton doing I, Pavel was ace, impersonating a Russian experiemental animation artist, including the best 'version' of Pokemon I've ever seen. Richard Herring was also really good, and from what I saw at Best of the Fest Jason Byrne was just great.
  5. For those going to Reading or Leeds, obviously there's the bigger bands to go and see, but I was wondering what smaller tips people have, so we can see all the groovy bands of the future before they become huge. So anybody with any top tips? Personally, I'm definitely going to check out Saul Williams, eclectic rapper who managed to survive and thrive when supporting Nine Inch Nails. Also going to take a look at Clor, doing indie-electro thing which could be interesting, probably not too far away from some of the more mainstream acts breaking through right now.
  6. Goodness, I miss Sidca's 'interperative routines' in Exodus...
  7. I'd totally watch the DVD if I were you then Grave. I kinda dug some of the website tracks, but after seeing them in action I love it, 13 Monsters is my pop tune of the decade. PS Sorry, just saw Bob's comment, discount everything I've just said, wouldn't ever want to contradict someone from Stayover, it'd be like pissing on the Queen or something. Or sleeping with your mom! Arf.
  8. But Danny Elfman's amazing! Amazing! Actually, I'm going to keep out of this, but I thought it was some of his best work yet, the rockier Oompa Loompa track was ace, and I thought the opening credit music was perfect for the story... PS In the 70s movie the garden looked rubbish, especially the 'chocolate river' that looked more like a contaminated sewer. The Tim Burton one looked utterly delicious...
  9. How horrific it looked the next day, how much did it cost Sandy to repair?
  10. Thank Christ for that, they're one of the few bands I'm looking forward to seeing at Leeds, haven't seen them since Crimes was released, but they were amazing when I saw them at tut's with Ross, camp hardcore art punk rules!
  11. If that's the case, you really shouldn't see the Wedding Crashers either, because that's pretty terrible, despite the reasons it shouldn't be (ie good cast including Vaugh, Wilson and Walken). A couple of funny moments, but a terrible, terrible script and WAY too long... Didn't go into The Descent with too high expectations, but was very impressed, another good low(ish)-budget from Neil Marshall, and for someone who doesn't get scared during movies, there was still a couple of moments when I just thought 'Jesus!' Plus I think they had the look of the creature just right for being pretty freaky; and despite the fact she was supposed to be a bitch, I loved the Juno character, even to the extent where I hoped the encounter with the blonde ex-mother at the end would go the other way around...
  12. Yeah, can't wait to see what they'll be playing, considering they had been planning on releasing the album a year ago when they took their break, they must have something interesting lined up... Anyway, hoping Lapsus are the playing Edinburgh gig, as I can't make Glasgow because I'm going down to Leeds that day.
  13. Yay, got to love Titus Gein! Well, I do. Check them out, they fucking rock, in the best synth-infused instrumenal punk-rock way possible...
  14. Just to say I've finally checked out this band, and they seem absolutely ace, though I haven't got round to buying an album yet. But from the videos on their website the live performances look phenomenal, I'd recommend anyone Aberdeen-based to go check them out at Moshulu. Personally, I'm going to check them out in Edinburgh on the Wednesday, and at the Leeds festival. Whoop! Dresden Dolls
  15. Great news to see those horrible bastards going on tour, from what I saw in Glasgow the new line-up seems to be gelling together really well, really dug the newer material I heard too...
  16. Popcorn Fiend website Popcorn Fiend Myspace It is likely I'll be doing the laptop/guitar thing again, though I'm now in the process of forming a full band for the Popcorn Fiend experience, so you never now... am looking forward to it greatly anyway, last year was ace... apart from the horrible gun, the horrible memories. Actually, a friend has booked me in for a matinee performance of The Odd Couple in Edinburgh on Sunday, so at least that's an excuse for me to try and retain more dignity this time...
