I suspect that Doc's post was primarily directed against those that post extremely negative comments that they intend to be taken seriously and for no apparent reason other than to upset others. I've met some of these people in real life and they appear normal' date=' even nice. So why do they behave like this on the Internet?

Here's what I propose... we get hold of all these fuckers and burn them. Yeah! Who's with me?[/quote']

That's exactly what I meant. A glimmer of intelligence at last.

And the virtriol I've attracted from the likes of stuart maxwank just goes to prove my point.

And also you cannot gabble on about people being allowed to voice their opinions and then refuse me mine...it's very silly and immature isn't it? Isn't it????

And stuart if you cannot engage in discussion without resorting to abuse then you're plainly very limited in your vocabulary and IQ.

if you think my mind's weapon and stayover are 'success stories' amongst aberdeen bands then you're mistaken' date=' there are more than a handful of bands from 'the granite city' who have accomplished more than those two in plenty of senses of the word yet are not 'hated' on this board.[/quote']

We started gigging in January - if there weren't any bands who had accomplished more than us that would be pretty sad.

Still, it's nice to be compared to MMw since they're one of the most professional bands we've played with.

From the posts so far' date=' I'd say that , without even hearing the band, stayover must be going somewhere and getting some attention. Each and every time an aberdeen band starts to raise it's game above the rest of the shite, the snipers and green eyed monsters crawl out from under their rocks to slag them off and bring them back down to their level.

Just remember guys, success and competence and talent are alien to most of the posters on here and if you display any of it, you will be attacked, shunned and critised.

It's jealousy pure and simple, the same jealousy and hatred of success that leads them to attack just about every mainstream band simply because they make some money and people actually like to buy their records.

Rise above it. It means you're doing something right. Flash too.[/quote']

I definately agree with what your saying there, though not all negativity is through jelousy. Bad press seems to be good press in this case, if you like. I can imagine people getting jelousy at Stayover getting any kind of press, thus the need to bombarde them with even more negativity. It's not far from bullying on the aberdeen-music scene, really.

Given that I gave an honest opinion, which was swiftly followed by a negative scene point and the word 'tosser' in the comment box (so hurtful) I rather think the childish mentality is as much in evidence on the other side of things as well.

For the record, I am not jealous of Stayover or anyone else, I admire people who are able to play a musical instrument, since I am not, but I do not see why this should devalue my opinion.

Yeah but you say that as if you're a totally new band - when in fact POO had been going for 4 years or something? You got rid of one member and changed your name, it's not like you started afresh. Same songs, 3/4 same members, new name. I don't really see you guys as 'newcomers' on the scene.

where is all this press that we keep talking about??

i dont read the NME but im sure i would have heard about it on here if someone got in??

Well yeah, i guess your right. The "scene" is hardly press, but still atleast everyone on these forums has heard of this band now, and many will be curious to see them live, even if for the wrong reasons...

looking through this thread, it doesn't seem to me that suggesting the track is not aurally palatable to me is a controversial opinion, but i know what you mean.

Probably the same bitter individuals who can't get over a certain incident which I had long put behind me...

Hey, don't presume it was us because it certainly wasn't me! You can use scene points to shit-stir as much as anything else man, and I thought your comment was one of the fairer ones.

You've lost me now, I don't know if you're referring to me or someone else in the thread.

Sorry, I realise it may have seemed ambiguous, I wasn't referring to yourselves/

We're not newcomers to the scene, so you got that one thing right. But changing from a 4-peice to a 3-peice playing a new set list is starting afresh anyway you like it. Especially when the member you loose was the frontman of the band. We certainly don't play the same songs as Point of Origin either. Just take a look at the evidence:

New Songs:

Cross The Eyes, Dot The Teas

Naturally Deselected

Daggers In Smiles

100 Miles (There And Back Again)

Typically You

The Last Song

Intro

You Do Something

Old Songs:

I Found You

Clear Vision

About a Girl

Misery

So in 3/4 months we've learned 8 new songs (not including the ones we've yet to put in our set list) and kept 4 songs we previously played as a four piece. I might also add that the only one of the "old" songs we regularly play with Stayover is "I Found You".

wow, this thread kept me entertained for a few minutes.

Some great banter to be found on good old aberdabba-music.com

I can't listen to the song because it's uni computers and I didn't bring headphones... however no matter how bad it is I'm sure it's nowhere near as bad as OFFICIAL worst band in Aberdeen - My Mind's Weapon

P.S. We're playing Glasgow Cathouse with Mendeed and other's this wednesday.

i think the production's pretty good actually! very clear, pretty concise....especially for a live recording!

the song has its moments (the line "i'm just a misery" bounced around in my head for hours after listening) but overall i'm not really impressed. i do like music of that pop/punk/rock vein, and i have seen Stayover live (only once though) and despite being initially disappointed, they WILL improve i'm sure. looking forward to it guys!

How does it feel to be in the best AND worst band Dan? What do you think you're doing wrong in MMw? Is your playing just a whole lot shittier for MMw? Why don't you concentrate on your good band from now on?

I'll give this thread a miss' date=' actually..[/quote']

what do you mean we WANT TO BE rockstars... we ARE rockstars. Obviously.

But lest ye not forget, thou listens to shite music and therefore hath no significance to MMW at all.

And Bob, it feels great winning best and worst band. And best live band and also best metal band for that matter...

Neil ex will be delighted to hear that Black Atom won the three best awards!

I feel that obviously I don't play enough guitar solos in MMW and the music has greatly suffered as a result. Possilby that is why we got voted worst band. more guitar solos, defintely.
