Yup another awesome show and much proof that the aberdeen scene is definately not dead. Loved At Long Last, will definately see them again. Stayover, much better than at drakes, keeps growing on me. MMW, love 'em to bits, never get tired of seeing them.

Dirtbox were the only band i didn't like, but hey 3.50 well spent.

Weapon were great tonight. I was loving the guitar work.

Missed the first band and I wasn't particularly impressed with Dirtbox or Stayover, just not my thing I guess. Dirtbox were obviously a tight band, but I almost felt embarrased for them between songs. Maybe they should just let the music talk in future, 'cause the banter that the two frontmen were coming out with was cringeworthy.

Interesting gig, really enjoyed Stayover, musically i though MMw were tight but the same thing i felt from the recordings was the vocalist is the weak link by a fair bit. An interesting comment from someone beside me was that Ben has to be the campest singer since Freddie Mercury which made me laugh. Stayover imho blew them off stage for tightness and I really could see them doing commerically quite well.

Cheers

first band: listen to more music, stop trying to sound like people

second band: i was told you would be shit, you weren't all that bad, i don't like the music but i was prepared for that, and that you sounded good all the same.

third band: it's point of origin isn't it? i know the members have changed but the style really hasn't. i was expecting a big change and lost out in the process.

fourth band: well improved. perhaps what stapled it was the drummer matching styles with the bass player, a very tight rhythm section. in fact, the whole band as a unit was good... at this point people have little to question but where next... i hope you grow as a band, you definitely play well together as a unit, but i hope you write diferent stuff. dan's harmonies were great, and ben's vocals in a different league from last time i saw MMW which was at moshulu.

Yeah tonight was great!!!

Good to see so many people making the effort to come out.

At long last were amazing for a first gig i thought, obviously they are no where near the finished article but there was enough there for me to want to keep a close eye on them and go see them again in the near future.

Dirtbox put on a solid show as they always do i dunno just not for me really.

Weapon were solid as fuck tonight for the little bit i watched them (i was selling weapon cds for the rest of the time so be thankful biatches!!!!!) the start was awesome i really liked that sample you used.

So yeah a good night in all.

I don't really know why you'd be expecting a huge change of style in that 3 out of 4 members of Point of Origin are in Stayover, including me, and I was a large influence on Point over 4 years and one of the main songwriters in that band.

Some of the songs you heard last night were written while I was still in Point of Origin.

Musically, I'm still coming from the same place, writing largely melodic pop/rock/punk material. That's what we want to do and it's what we're best at. It would seem silly to throw that out the window and go in some completely different direction.

We're only 3 months into this and as far as I'm concerned we're still very much finding our feet... if you compare MMw material of a year and a half ago with that of today you will see a definate progression, but that kind of thing takes time. You can't just fast forward a year and skip all the hard work in between. Even if you could, you'd probably find that we'd still be playing material similar in essance to what we are today.

At the end of the day, Stayover are going to have similarities to Point of Origin but we a different band with a different attitude, a different dynamic and an approach to music which is completely different to Point of Origin.

Perhaps those factors will become more evident over time.

At Long Last-For first show I really enjoyed it Jason, Ben bassist(paul is it?) put a lot of energy into the performance. Only bad thing was the guitarists were pretty much just standing there looking very nervous. Hard to describe the sound but great debut.

Dirtbox- I agree with Chris that the banter is cringeworthy but I do like the band much-improved since last year. Good songs and tight set. Oh and they win the award for shittest hair-dos. :p

Stayover- Like Phil said Stayover were much better than at Drakes. Some songs still don't agree with me but time will take its course...

My Minds Weapon-Apart from the sound(I couldn't really hear Jamesy's guitar) it was a good set. I Killed Rock and Roll was probably best played and nice to see Weapon messing about with lyrics and melodies what not. There ya go.

I had a fucking ace time! Great night all round.

I actually thought that At Long Last played the best FIRST gig I've ever seen an Aberdeen band play... bear in mind people that this was actually their first gig. Some nice riffs and guitar parts between the guitarists, good drumming and Jason has the potential to be a great frontman. Also nice to see the bass player going for it a bit! Reminded me of a twin guitar version of Quik in places.

I think I'm the only person who actually likes Dirtbox. Although now they have moved from sounding like Blink 182 to sounding like Lit. Tight as fuck, catchy songs, nuff said.

First time I'd seen Stayover since they've changed and the one thing you cannot deny them is their ability to write catchy songs. Obviously the comparison between them and point of origin is going to be obvious... Where I think they suffer compared to PoO is the songs are less energetic and happy compared to old PoO songs - (bear in mind I like energetic music), HOWEVER the professionalism is ten times better and I know this is the sound they are going for. To me their progression has been so similar to Blink 182's in the sense that their new stuff may alienate old fans slighty, but there's no denying they have actually just got better.

Not gonna say anything about MMW's set except that my neck's still sore.

Cheers for coming people, was a really good turn out. :)

Mildly conflicting statements there [:p] but kinda points to why Stuart, myself and some other people I know thought that you guys would be at least a bit more of a departure from Point - the way you talked about the new project on here I thought it was going to be a bit more removed from PoO's direction than it is. It's no bad thing mind - just an impression taken from your comments.

Looking forward to seeing you guys again to gauge improvements which, from what I hear, are happening all the time. :)

Are you being serious? Or is that supposed to say "best first gig"?

I think Stayover are going in almost the opposite direction Point of Origin were. Point of Origin were gradually getting slower, more rocky and more emo with screamo bits, whereas Stayover have gone more in the direction of pop punk.

If you take those two paragraphs from my previous post and put them together, they are quite conflicting, but what's in the middle is just as important.

I'll try to put it another way: If Point of Origin was a house, we knocked it down leaving only the foundations. We're building on those foundations, so yes, there may be similarities. We haven't moved the house, there was no good reason to. It's just the blueprint that has changed drastically. I thought that much was evident.

[Edit]I dunno if that made sense, but yeah, well... whatever[/Edit]

Stayover have gone more in the direction of pop punk.

Just what the world needs!!!

I recall playing along side POO in a battle of the bands circa 2001/02... I recall thinking who are these young upstarts?!?!?!

It's hardly like there's a glut of pop punk bands about these days. Besides' date=' what I imagine pop punk to mean and what you imagine it to mean are probably two different things.

Yeah, I think we were okay that night but I could be getting it mixed up with some other gig. I don't remember gigs. What band were you in?

Very true, I was just playing though. :p

It would have been either Mercedes or The UK Paybacks... I cant remember.

Feel as embarrassed as you like. I think it's fine.

Yeah, Niki Casino was playing for you. (It was the UK Paybacks) I thought you guys were okay actually, I liked you as much as I could for a band that beat us. Bastards.

All covers of 60's american garage band songs, 3 rehearsals, my electric sax decided to be acoustic just as we started and we were pretty awful I thought, but yet...

Oh not you're not. :p 'mon the Dirtbox! I thought they played extremely well as always. As for the banter.. who cares? Go see a comedian if you want good banter. The new songs are just as catchy as ever, and Eggy is doing a fine job filling in.

At Long Last - "There's Jason... is he? Wait a minute. Yes, no he's... oh my gosh!" There's something I didn't know. What a first gig indeed. Absolutley nothing to give away it was their first gig cos Smee and whatshisname, not Ben or P.B., are quite reserved anyway, hahaha... maybe nae. Only thing I'd say - and it's a total nit-pick - Jason was awfully like Ben Weapon minus the mic swinging. But yeah, will be seeing those boys again. Thumbs up.

Stayover got the heads a-boppin'. Some moments, particularly the more rocking ones got me like woah but other times I was pretty bored and looking around at all the pretty people in the room. Misery and I Found You were great, but what's happening with About A Girl... EH?

Weapon put on a good show as usual, but I've enjoyed other sets by them more. Can't put my finger on what exactly, but there seemed to be something missing. Any entertainment lost was gained watching the hardcore boys dancing. I just can't take them seriously.

What did the lady from teh U.S.A think then?

Something to do with jamesy's guitar I think. Might be wrong though

She wasn't there as she was ill or something.

We can't play every old song I've written. :p We played about a girl at Westhill, but we probably won't be playing it for a while again. We'll see.

Dan? Sorry, just doesn't sound like Dan. Is someone posting using his profile and not signing or summit? Very confused...
