Ebay Scam

Mouse

Recommended Posts

I got this in an email, then filled out the information and submitted, though it didn't work. Thank god because my parents think it's a scam. It came from an official ebay address. What do you all think, should I believe it? (I don't like the bit I highlighted in bold)

Don't use Ebay full stop, I think it's a piece of shite. I prefer hunting for specialist auctions across the country and bidding by the ol' dog and bone. So old fashioned I know, but nowt beats the thrill of a real live auction.......

Hey Mouse man' date=' please be very careful with Ebay. Its great but it can bite you when your not looking. Always pay by credit card!

Theres advice for you even although you like Slayer lol[/quote']

I never pay by credit cad (Paypal), I prefer to have contact with the person before i send the cheque, ever since i ordered Vampire Hunter D:Bloodlust i have went off paypal

mouse, how do you know it didn't work? If I were you I'd change your ebay password anyway, just to be safe.

And as a general rule no-one will ask for your password over email for things like this. And if they do, phone their support line to verify it first.

thats a pretty old scam, ebay will never ask for your deatails like that, most certainly over email

to be safe i would cancel the account, as if you filled in all the information, you may have been luicky and the info didnt go through, but it might have... so to be on the safe side i would probably cancel the account or at least change all the passwords ot stop anyone getting into the account and using it

Pretty convincing though with the correct email address and the warning' date=' when you are in a stupid mood. At least it never worked![/quote']

how is it convincing ?

no online account ever asks you to "confirm information" via an email.

if anything, they'd point you to a secure log in screen on their website.

It's the masked URL's that make "bogus" websites look like Ebay / Bank account sites that scare me.

Any shite email I get like that , I bin them straight away.

Its easy. Its about 2 lines of code or something to send from practically any address. I sent one to my flatmate when i first found out from billgates@microsoft.com.

I'm not even sure what the lagalities are of using someone elses address...

It said there was an error on the page or something. I went to my settings and is said my password had 8 characters, though before it had 6, so I changed it back

Just prey you have no credit cards registered on your account, else they may be getting cleared as we type...always avoid pish that looks like the following.....

phishing.gif

Ok, thats a bit far fetched, but believe me that sort of shit is rife in peoples mail boxes every day! A bit of common sense goes a long way....I would switch ISP's however as its a bit worrying that their mail server didn't do some sort of DNS reverse lookup or SPF lookup....

It's obvious that it's a scam. Look at the font, spelling errors, and the simplicity of the text
