Fudge 5th Birthday

if everyone didnt stand right up at the back for most of the night and actually came forward and looked like they were slightly interested in the bands then it would have been cool....Sucioperro did plead a few times for everyone to come down to the front but instead it just looked like everyone was extremely rude!

shaz

I thought the bands were good. Sucioperro in particular. I think what Sharon was saying is spot on. Last night did have a bit of a high school reunion feel to it. Most of the people at the bar area clearly weren`t interested in the bands and we just out socialising with people that they havn`t seen in a while. Bigger fool them for missing a great new talent.

In terms of the venue then that`s pretty much up to fudge. They are the promoters and we are the venue. Sometimes I wish Moshulu had a concertina effect. We block off the seating area in front of the bar for quieter gigs which does help to generate an atmosphere assuming that the people are there for the bands. Can't really comment on anything else. Would have been good if it was in the old drakes....but heh.... can't live in the past, gotta move on.... ( Palace tonight for Crunchie anyone ;) )

The cleanup is almost done.... fairy dust is now our cleaners thorn in her side....

Wow that sounds like an emo song.. ROFL...!!!!11111!!!!11!?!???!!

And as for the sound in general' date=' i think it'd be an ace venue if someone could nail the sound [u']every night, most of the bands i've seen there have had at least one instrument/vocals drowned by the rest of the band. It's a shame when a band puts in so much energy into a performance and the sound doesn't do them justice.

Last night JImmy from CLS did the sound. He`s one of if not the best sound guy in Aberdeen. I think the sound would have been better with more people down the front to soak up certain frequencies.

Usually you assume a gig is going to have loads of people down the front to soak up the sound and work on that pretext....

*Please correct me if i`m wrong mr Christie

?! Then surely as one of the best sound engineers in this fair city he'd be able to adjust accordingly when it became clear folk were staying at the back.

I'd be interested to hear if that's true - never heard of it before! Genuinely interested...

yes i think the bands should try harder to get folk along but everyone is gigging so much these days that they stop trying/your friends stop coming to your gigs because they've seen you 3 times in 2 weeks already...

sharon

Thats one problem with a lot of local bands they tend to play frequently(like twice every 3 weeks). If the bands play less often they will pull in more people when they do play.

and fuck the rest o' ya! :D[/quote']

Cheers Brian!?!? ?(

I hope there's an element of sarcasm in that statement coz you know i'm no bullshitter- i say what i feel and "i" particularly didn't enjoy myself last night. I feel that people discussing stuff like this is healthy and might even help out a bit?

P.s What's with this MMW and Lucifer shit- make love not war guys! You're both allright at what you do now fucking deal with it, it's not like you ever have to play a gig together or anything!

Every gig I've been to at Moshulu - around 8 or 9 now - the atmosphere has been dead. Even if the bands play fantastic, it's still crappy.

The sound is always dodgy too. Take 10 Easy Wishes on Monday night... the sound was awful and it made the set sound really bad.

And having a bunch of people down at the front doesn't seem to make a difference in my ears.

Whenever I hear a band I want to see is playing Moshulu, it's just like *sigh*, yay.

That's the thing though Ben, no one else would be stupid enough to say what you said...

You'll understand one day and you'll look back and just cringe at everyone of your posts, like I do now.

Last night maybe wasn't the best Fudgenight ever, but I still enjoyed myself greatly. Never saw TAR back in the day but they were good I thought. All the gig needed was a few more people but I agree that when it's emptyish Moshulu is not the best venue for bands.

I ended up with an old school tape recorder which is possibly defective, thanks to the wondrous raffle and was horrendously (and uncharacteristically) drunk. I have memories of petty theft and of 'relaxing' myself against traffic bollards. The night ended on the front lawn of Marischal College at around 4.30 am with a bout of vomiting and wrestling. I apologise to anyone if I touched them inappropriately. Fudgenights make me do bad things...

I thought it was a great night. Tar where fantastic and it was great to see them live one more time.

Sucioperno were ace, some fantastic song there. And The Cuts were great as well, aside from a few technical problems.

Didn't really pay attention to the Simon Gall band and I Spike weren't my thing at all, good banter though.

I tihnk the main problem with Fudgenights is the timing. Having a bands on so late midweek is begging for a low attendance.

i meant to buy la fanzine actually

i totally appreciate the effort the bri and co put into getting the word on the street for these shows, and i do realise that it is difficult to pull it off now with more venues (less people too??), but if this is happening then perhaps its time to go to the drawing board, i.e. bring in higher profile acts?bring in more local acts?cut down the amount of fudge?etc cause a few fowk were disapointed i think

i thought it was cool that they brought all the diff varieties of music, i did miss most of it though :(

perhaps i was a bit harsh about tar, i suppose i just let my disgust with the crowd cloud my judgement a bit, i still didnt like em though
