woombler
Just wondered if anyone knows of anywhere in Aberdeen or further north that teaches burlesque dancing? Something I really want to try, but the people I emailed that used to do lessons at Tiger Tiger now only do hen parties - I ain't getting married anytime soon! ?(
KimyReizeger
You could go down to Club Sapphire - someone told me that's a burlesque bar - and ask there.
nullmouse
Sapphire club do monthly burlesque nights, and I've heard mixed reviews about them - My understanding is the quality is very good, but it's very sparse between acts. There's a fledgling night in Aberdeen that's running very infrequently called Mis En Abyme (sp?) that does dark, off-kilter cabaret and burlesque: Keeva, the organiser, has also done burlesque at Obedience School. I'd wager she'd be a pretty good person to contact, but I don't think she's got an account on here. I know a man that would know, though. Afro Droid
I know a man that would know, though. The man that posts here as Jimsin, no doubt! He'll be able to put you in touch with Keeva...Still...burlesque, bah, and indeed, humbug...
Memphis Skyline
I have in fact been to a burlesque lesson at Club Sapphire. This might come as a surprise to those who know me.

He'll be able to put you in touch with Keeva...Still...burlesque, bah, and indeed, humbug... It's all got a bit fashionable hasn't it. Every girl you meet is giving it a bash and paying for lessons when all you need are a pair of heels, long gloves, a mirror and some music, preferably with a sax solo.Regardless, Sapphire used to do burlesque classes on the first Saturday of the month during the day with shows at night, give it a google and you'll find the website with details. Lemonade
There's a place on Union Street that's started doing pole dancing lessons.
Teabags
I give pole dancing lessons. If by "pole" you mean "my cock" and by "dancing" you mean "in your vagina" and by "lessons" you mean "just for shits and giggles".

jcn
waaaaay too much info, cheers for that.Burlesque ain't about shagging though, in fact you could define it as the art of not shagging in a way. That's why they call it a strip-tease.
Teabags
thats okay, I'm not into burlesque or teasing. I'm into shagging.

Lemonade
Burlesque is way, way sexier than some bird in a strip club waving her minge in your face. It's about what they don't show.
Guest
Burlesque is way, way sexier than some bird in a strip club waving her minge in your face. It's about what they don't show.I could sit on the benches at Union Street, looking at what women don't show, for free. But to step away from that disturbing comment, I don't really find either THAT sexy. Strip clubs, you can see the sadness and self loathing in the girls eyes, and burlesque shows I just find dull...*braces for impact*
Lemonade
I think burlesque is incredibly sexy, it's kind of hard to pin point exactly why, but I'm a fan. The big difference between burlesque and stripping (apart from the nudity) is that burlesque girls are always smiling and look like their enjoying it, whereas strippers have to put on this totally contrived sexy look on their face that is so obviously fake. I know a few and they say it depends on who they're doing it for

The "art of not shagging" - have you any idea how ridiculous that sounds?I know, that sounds totally stupid doesn't it? I don't know how to describe it. People get turned on (obviously) by what they see at a burlesque show but it's also a confidence thing, I think. The closest thing that I have done to burlesque is being a life model at an art school, but that was basically posing completely naked for up to 45 minutes, no feather boas or anything for me

KimyReizeger
I don't find it all that exciting, but possibly because it seems to have rather close associations with such human abominations as alternative rock culture, ironic humour and hen nights. Alkaline
Ignoring the current hen night trend Burlesque just radiates a little more class than some bint thrusting her minge in some desperados face. Burlesque dancers have some dignity whereas a stripper has no more dignity than a prostitute or an escort in my eyes. That's not very nice Ms Burnham
