french_disko
To run in tandem with this thread - http://www.aberdeen-music.com/forums/showthread.php?t=28892Ok, what's your favourite Dylan song performed by another artist and why? I'm going for "Blowin' In The Wind" by Neil Young & Crazy Horse off of the "Weld" live album. Harmonies & feedback - what more could you ask for? Perfectly sums up both Young's Music & Dylan's Lyrics in my mind.
Guest DustyDeviada
My Back Pages by The Byrds for me.All of those Byrds covers sounded great with the harmonies and the Rickenbacker. I was a bit surprised to see Bob himself sort of slag them off in the documentary.

Guest bluesxman
13th Floor Elevators - Baby Blue (they shortened the title). Great guitars and a whole different take on the original which doesn't destroy it.
RF Scott
"I Shall Be Released" by The Band. It's purely majestic' date=' Richard Manuel's choirboy falsetto at it's purest. It's my "funeral song" as well...Special mention to "Dusty Old Fairgrounds" by Blue Ash as well. I think Dylan only ever played the song once then discarded it, but these guys, for whatever reason, got hold of it and turned it into a garage metal gem.[/quote'] if thats the version from the last waltz, doesn't bob dylan perform on it? Rob
PJ Harvey's version of 'Shot Of Love' is great.Hole also have a version of 'It's All Over Now, Baby Blue' which is quite good.
RF Scott
No' date=' it's the version from "Music From Big Pink". The Last Waltz version was painful, Manuel's voice had gone completely by that point, and everyone on stage was trying to out-sing each other in the chorus.[/quote'] yes its not a very good performance. Its fun to watch ringo starr on the dvd, he looksa)angryb)confusedc)a little bit lonesome

Alan Cynic
I join the 'All along the watchtower' by Hendrix fans. I remember lying between 2 speakers listening to the guitar whizz from side to side (early 70s).I also like Roy Harper's version of Girl from the North Country, which he claimed back as a traditional song.....Comment by Roy "We expected the libel suit and we got one but it was dropped on both parts because they realised we had, sort of, sufficient ground to stand on. Dylan was nicking all the tunes, particularly the English and the Irish tunes - Masters Of War is a song called Nottingham Town. A lot of people knew where he was getting stuff from and thought he shouldn't really be getting the acclaim he was getting - bit of sour grapes I guess." (BBC Radio, 16th March 1991) . I love Spirit's beautiful versions of The Times they are a changing and Like a rolling stone, from Spirit of 76, too.Oh, and Bridget St John doing Love minus zero - no limit! Bodast
Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands by Steve Howe, sung by Jon Anderson. I've never heard the original but I like that version.
