new system of a down+Audioslave albums.. rate or hate them??

what does everyone think of the new System and Audioslave albums?? Have just downloaded them and both are pretty damn good!

Mesmerize marks a slight change from System since their last official release, Toxicity ('Steal This Album!' (~2003) wasn't an 'official' release) marks a change in pace for system.. They still have Tankian's "ooooowwwoooooo"'s and "aaaaaarrraaaaahhhh"'s but feature a slightly different sound. BYOB is as catchy as ever and Violent Pornography is - in my opinion - one of their finest songs ever..

Audioslave... A more chilled out release than their debut... Less Rage-style riffs from Morrello and not enough 'Down On The Upside' style vocals from Cornell, more reminecent of 1999's Morning Euphoria, but nonetheless a good album. Dandelion has to be one of the standout tracks on it.. A good effort..

Anyone else agree/disagree??

Seriously, I can't even believe that they call that new record a System of A Down release. It was all written by the guitarist and he sings on MOST of the record, which is annoying since I think his voice is crap on his best day. I was really disappointed and thought it wasn't so good. The one coming out at the end of the year better be a lot better.

Audioslave will never be good for me. "Just be yourself is all that you can do" has to be the worst lyrics I have heard in a long time. How pathetic and cheesy.

The SOAD album is actually a very well formed album - a rarity in itself these days - and I think its pretty good. More poppy and accesable, but still thrashes about when it needs to.

Audioslave - I heard a version of them doing "Killing In The Name" and can't bring myself to listen to them ever again....

I couldn't agree more with justincutyou. Serj is an amazing vocalist who has been pushed to the side to accomodate that little shit who plays guitar. Get the feeling he's on a bit of an ego trip. I don't mind him singing in the harmonies which are ace but not the main vocals. Even minus his really annoying vocals the songs aint anywhere near as good as most on the last two albums (not heard steal this album). The album has some ace parts but I'm really disappointed.

As for audioslave I've not heard the album the whole way through but I don't like them at all. Chris Cornell's vocals are very nasal and the lyrics terrible. He used to be one of my fave vocalists in soundgarden. Despite that the songs aint good enough anyway. Expected way more from them.

You are stupid if you think that Daron can not sing, he has an amazing voice (as does Serje) Serj sings on every song, so you can't complain. By using daron as the lead vocalist and serj doing backing vocals on some songs they are just experimenting with their sound as they always have done. They have improved as musicians and song writers remarkably, Shavo could even be allowed to call himslef a bassist these days. All the songs on the album and are great and as medichie said hte album is very well formed. S.O.A.D have imnproved with every album.

Mezmerize>Steal this album> toxicity> system of a down

I dont like audioslave

I gotta agree.

I think its a pretty good album, but I prefer the sugar, toxicity, and especially the aerials sounds.

As for Audioslave, well some songs are alright, but just not my preference in music really.

hmm.. nah man' date=' i reckon it is a pretty good album. It may not have the 'anthems' of sugar, toxicity, aerials and chop suey! but even still, is not a bad album. I will be interested to see what they do with part two of their 2 album concept, out in the autumn...[/quote']

I like the 'Slave album too! The single is the worst song on it, so don't let it fool anyone. I can totally see why folk don't Audioslave, though. Well I do!

But on the whole, it's a good album (not great or remotely original) but Cornell still has an ace bellowing voice and Morello riffs with the best and still has the time for the "frrrt - t - t - de drrrrrrr" effects now and again. Which is pleasing.

I still think this album (or indeed the first) would never had seen the light of day had it not been for the group's past glories in other bands.

Looking forward to seeing them next month, though. I think they'll put on a good show. I should bloody well hope so at thirty bucks a ticket! Pikieness aside, will be nice to see them in a smaller venue. I really love the first half of the first album, so hopefully hear a fair few of those amongst the newer stuff.

Morello rocks.

I like what I've heard of both albums so far. I don't understand why so many people are getting up in arms about Daron handling more vocal/songwriting duties on the System album. I've always liked his vocals nearly as much as Serj's and it kinda reminds me of when 'By The Way' came out by RHCP and Frusciante's vocals were more prominent - it makes a nice change in my opinion and adds a new wee dimension onto the record. For me anyways.

As for Audioslave I'll perhaps always be biased towards them thanks to the eye-melting brilliance of their previous acts and I adore Cornell's vocals so he could sing over the top of Do Me Bad Things and I'd probably enjoy it ;)

Still got to give both records a more thorough listen but that can be my task for this afternoon. Hectic lifestyle non?

i bought the SOAD album the other day and i love it!

i have to say that i really like the fact that Daron is doing some main vocals on this album, it just refreshes their sound and they experimenting sounds awesome.

my favourite songs would have to be Radio/video, question and sad statue. Violent pornography is also really good. and the breakdowns in BYOB just after "feed us lies from the tablecloth" is sooo good!

don't listyen to audioslave

Ain't got the new Audioslave album yet. (Oh shit the new Bruce Dickinson album was out yesterday!)

Mezmerize is fucking amazing. It hooked me in a way the first two never managed. BYOB is now my favourite SOAD song. I'm really impressed with this album
