  1. I have't been around in a long long while. Did you guys in the Real Shocks change your name and when are coming to Austin again?
  2. Seriously, I can't even believe that they call that new record a System of A Down release. It was all written by the guitarist and he sings on MOST of the record, which is annoying since I think his voice is crap on his best day. I was really disappointed and thought it wasn't so good. The one coming out at the end of the year better be a lot better. Audioslave will never be good for me. "Just be yourself is all that you can do" has to be the worst lyrics I have heard in a long time. How pathetic and cheesy.
  3. Here's the deal for me concerning the two groups: I'm totally suspect of them because I believe that they lack sincerity. So name checking Gang of Four is cool? Hardly. Skid Row loved the Ramones and Moby is really into Cabaret Voltaire and Joy Division, but having good taste doesn't exactly mean that you're producing good music. I'm sure they're nice guys and all, but a friend of mine went and saw them and said they had the immediacy of maybe a firecracker. They look like Austin or NYC trustafarian fashionistas that got into their older sister's post-punk record collection and couldn't think of anything else to do. Before that I bet they were in bands in their teens that either sounded like some awful emo or Unwound, or maybe Brian Ferry if they were lucky. The only thing that stood Franz Ferdinand out for me was that they were doing that sound at a time when it wasn't exactly "cool" in the U.K. In the U.S., I had heard every band on Troubleman Unlimited records under the sun that sounded like some Factory band from 77 to 83. I was interested in the sound from a UK point of view and I still think they're pretty good, if slightly annoying. That's my two cents on it.
  4. Personally I believe that they are both terrible.....but I'll have to go with the Kaiser Chiefs on this one.
  5. Let's see top six here. 1. I would have to be able to jam synths with Chris Carter of TG fame. 2. One day the drummer from Belle and Sebastian gets horribly ill and his hands are broken and Stuart asks me personally to play drums for the rest of the tour. 3. Kick Bloc Party in the nuts. 4. Make a bizarro ballet of squashed dying baby sounds with Mike Patton 5. The Murder City Devils reforms with me playing keyboards. 6. Everyone knows that secretly I suck ass but I still make a ton of money.
  6. Eh. My favorite song of all time would probably have to be "Interstate 8" by Modest Mouse. That song just kills me every time I hear it.
  7. yesness bands I hate: U2, Peaches, Beastie Boys, Spoon, The Hives, Blink 182, Green Day, All EMO, Jet, any metal after 1990, Motley Crue, and god knows how many others.
  8. I'm a real drummer and I love using drum machines. I also like playing electronic drum pads because I'm all about rhythems and I don't really care where it comes from. In my opinion programming can be an art in and of itself.
  9. Bollocks to Sons and Daughters?!? I don't know about the rest of the album but I like the song about Johnny Cash. Although it could be that I'm also a rabid follower of anyone who used to be a part of Arab Strap's touring band....
  10. all rambling aside, I think you guys have a cool scene.
  11. I can concur.....while the Trash Can Sinatras are alright and I have been a huge fan of scottish music for years, but they were hardly a substitute for the tales of madness I heard from the Real Shocks about Aberdeen. Just remember........Nirvana came from another Aberdeen that was cold, a bit isolated, and about two hours from Seattle......me thinks things are alright there. That and it's Scotland....damn site better than this hot place..
  12. Greatest Aberdeen Band: ::::::::drumrolllllllsssss:::::::: REAL SHOCKS!!!! they're really nice too....
  13. Good Bluegrass: Flatt and Scruggs, The Carter Family, Jimmie Rodgers, The Monroe Brothers, and Ralph Stanley. These guys are the first wave of recorded bluegrass and the best in my opinion. Alot of their songs were recorded for the "O Brother Where Art Thou" soundtrack.
  14. I put a pic in the galleries when I get finished scanning them. I use two drum kits. One is a Ludwig 73 or 74 vistablue(the one like Bonham had) that I totally refurbished. I have it set up in a four piece with one hi hat, two crashes and one ride that were provided from Paiste. I also have a Pearl Studio Session kit that I have set up in a four piece with Paiste cymbals as well. I use Vic Firth sticks and I my favorite drummer is Damon Che from Don Cabellero
  15. The locust ROCK!!!! I was actually really into them.....crazed angular avant rock that is insane. Not to mention seeing their sexy bulges int their tights
  16. None of them.....I always been one of those weird people that thinks that if it's time to fold it, fold it.
  17. New Wave? Joy Division? Seriously, tis a joke to call Joy Division new wave. We always call them the genius first sons of "post punk".
  18. Art Punk, to me, is what happened with Nio Wave in NYC in 80 through 83. Bands like 8 Eyed Spy, MARRS, DNA, The Contortions, stuff like that is art punk. Alot of it is coming back. Ofcourse you always had your art punk such as Wire and predecessors such as Captain Beefheart. There's also the pre-punk almost art punk of Cabaret Voltaire and Throbbing Gristle. It's weird to put the two together though because most people involved in the first wave of Punk hated bands like Wire and TG because they were either in Art School, from Art School, or were professional artists. This was extremely uncool because Art was associated with people like John Lennon, Genesis, King Crimson and other things, so Punk was supposed to be the music of every day working class youth. Of course if you look at the Talking Heads, who were all graduates of RISD (rhode island school of design.....an ace art school) were to my the perfect example of Art Punk Newer Art punk bands to me would be this: Liars, Get Hustle, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Ex Models, Seconds, Coachwhips, Lightning Bolt, Pink and Brown, Les Savy Fav, other stuff like that...... Emo I'm not fond of at all......in fact I down right hate it because of it's terrible history and the fact that's it's pretty much the same homophobic sexist American dorks ripping off Fugazi or the first Sunny Day Real Estate album......only this time they pretend that they are sensitive and wear Cobain Cartigan sweaters and totally destroy the hearts of unsuspecting girls. To me they are nothing more than the new bad glam period like that of Winger and Night Ranger.
  19. Young Heart Attack......that's funny......I always forget about them because I'm here in Austin, Texas. I forgot how big they are in the UK right now....
  20. Just wait....I heard a new track off of the forth coming album and it sounded like "Too Dark Park". I think that it's going to be quite good.
  21. I'm totally in love with this band. I had been waiting for their album for months after my friend in Manchester told me about them 6 months ago. He knows I'm really into bands that have their sound. Their album came out here in the States right before SXSW (sheds a tear too.....man this year was awesome) and I have been jamming it ever since. The best lyrics are "it's always better on holiday, so much better on holiday, we only work when we need the money". Great line.
  22. Look, get totally tanked in a cemetary and wallow in the mud. Then go to town and go to a pub and start to touch up some lasses and see what kind of trouble you get into. Film the whole thing and write about the experience like you're a journalist. There. Now you have some lyrics.
  23. Alright, I'm going to give the first five songs on this tape I'm making.....it's for a friend who is trying to impress this girl who seems to be a bit luke warm to his intentions, but when she's pisshed, she's totally snogging him all night. Tell me if you think this is good. 1. Mogwai-R U Still In 2 It? 2. The Walkmen-Hang On Siobahn 3. Franz Ferdinand-Auf Asche 4. Arab Strap-The Shy Retirer(Disco Hospital Mix) 5. Morrissey-I Am Hated For Loving
  24. So......what's someone's favorite mix tape to get? I make mix tapes for people all the time because I'm a nerd. The best mix tape I ever got was from this girl when I was still a young lad in school.
