Len Atom
What are your opinions regarding concept albums or songs with similiar themes? Some of my favourite albums are Metropolis Pt.2 by Dream Theater and Blaze's Tenth Dimension. I like the way that themes and melodies can be recycled, rearranged and reintroduced over songs. It gives a sense of connection which appeals to me.It could be argued that it shows a lack of invention by hashing out similiar material, but what do you think and what are your favourites? bryn
My personal favourite is 'New old songs' by Limp Bizkit or 're-animation' by Linkin park
Fast Caz
It is very cool how they use alot of the drum beats and riffs from Metropolis on the Scenes from a memory albumI.e Home and Fatal Tragedy and some others !
Dan G
'Scenes from a memory' by DT is definitely my favourite. Iced Earth have done a good few. Cradle of Filth, although not exactly my favourite band, have done some pretty clever concept stuff before.Oh...and The Oddyssey by Symphony X.... Hell Yeah! New Found Power
Can't say i've heard any of the DT or Symphony X stuff, but Iced Earth's concept stuff (The Dark Saga, and the Something Wicked Trilogy, as well as the Gettysburg 1863 epic) is fantastic.Does this mean you're writing a concept album then? Rass
how can we miss out Seventh Son of a Seventh Son by Iron Maiden or Skunkworks by Bruce Dickinson awesomeness!
Mouse
Seventh Son & SFAM are excellent. Although I prefer SDOIT (nah!!!) but that is only a semi-concept album if that. Clutching At Straws is a concept album when it comes to the main character Torch, but few musical ideas are recycled, whereas lyrical ideas are. PaulDW
Metropolis Pt.2 by Dream Theater is one of the best albums I have ever listened to... Its continuation of themes, through different styles is pure genius!

Guest Scorge Spike
Symphony X are a must see band. They were probably fractonally better than Dream Theater, actually. And the entire SSOASS album for a future gig? We can but dream.......

Rass
i'm going to back y'all up on the general poop-ness of the glorious burden, not coz your all my bandmates, just because i heard so much about the album being ace and a great return to form and about 3 songs in i was so utterly bored to tears, didn't enjoy it atall, poop poop poop
Guest Scorge Spike
My guess is that Doc only thinks the Glorious Burden is so good because his missus has been making him listen to lots of Blue lately. Poor sod. I back up the consensus here - it's rather pants.
New Found Power
Fair enough, it isn't as good as previous Iced Earth stuff, but it's by no means pish. The Gettysburg Disk is audio gold though.
