  1. Never knew that... in my defence, it isn't something I would ever think of doing... Most ridiculous thing i've ever seen is someone drop tuned to Drop F. He used a bass string for his bottom string. Mental. I've been on youtube the last few weeks looking at intermediate/advanced guitar lessons, but the guys piss me off. They don't explain things that well, they just play it at normal speed, play it a little slower and expect you to get it. I'm sick of just playing scales over and over for hours and then try and make up a tune, and it sounds nearly the same as the last song I came up with. I started learning some Dream Theater not too long ago, but the timing is just ridiculous sometimes, and Petrucci is superjesus. I'm really into alot of instrumental stuff... reccommend me some songs to learn? Nothing too insane... EDIT - instrumental stuff like satriani, vai, eric johnson etc... haven't heard anything new for a while that i've really liked though... i'm an awkward bastard, eh?
  2. SODA JERK, When you hit a note on a guitar string, it makes a vibration pattern. The vibration takes place in close proximity to the MAGNETISED pickup, and it interrupts the magnetic field in the same vibration pattern. This vibrating magnetic field is then "reproduced" in thin layers of wire that surround the pickup. The vibrations echo through the wires until they reach a simple circuit inside the guitar... and then obviously that's where the lead and amplifier come in... anyways, screaming into it won't work. John W, thanks for posting something useful. I guess i'll give it a try. I'm just getting frustrated because I can't learn the songs I want to play. Maybe i'm just aiming too high? Who knows. Thanks for the advice man. I appreciate it.
  3. Been playing guitar for the better part of 7 years now. I believe i've gotten to a fairly decent level now, but recently I just don't have the patience to just sit and learn a whole song like I used to. I just get frustrated and bored and give up. Anyone else ever gone through this?
  4. My old flatmate has loads of tapes which he recorded john peel shows onto... quite educational.
  5. It is. But I thought it was necessary to explain that i'm not the same kid complaining about "shit" music when it's not actually shit. Also, this way, people get to take cheap shots at me in the usual "told you so, bitch" fasion that everyone loves.
  6. I remember several months ago when I was posting on this website "bitching" about how "rubbish" screaming/growling is. I must swallow my pride and apologise for this ridiculous behaviour. I've realised that sometimes, I guess it's pretty decent and fits in really well with the music. It adds that extra bit of aggression or emotion into a song. And i'm actually getting into quite a few bands of this kind... it's much more aggressive than what I normally go for... Anyways, cheers guys for the sarcastic, yet educational rants. =] B
  7. Hey folks. I'm literally just looking to have a little jam with people and see what happens. I play guitar (obviously) in a few different styles influences from blues, rock, metal etc. If anyones interested, chuck a pm my way and i'll get back to you B *EDIT* BY THE WAY, I'm tuned to standard and have a floyd rose and really can't be bothered drop tuning my guitar...
  8. I'm a guitarist into alot of different genres. Been playing guitar for 7 years now and been in bands before... pm me
  9. Coolest thing i've seen all day... take into account it is only 3.44am... and the coolest thing i saw before this was two midgets battling it out on jerry springer.
  10. I thought mike smith was the best act to be honest. That's nothing against you in any way, just preferences. Liked your song though.
  11. Wow. Thats ridiculous. Why can't they just write like a normal person wood?
  12. Oh... my bad I didn't notice the name was there! Woodn't have noticed at all if it wasn't for yew. I was trying to decipher it for ages... Perhaps we should turn over a new leaf and forget I made such a silly mistake, yeah?
  13. i'd been pining for a thread like this, but i saw i'm so late i can't top any of it. i'll be evergreen with envy. oh, well... i'm board. i may ash well log off.
  14. Y'know what mate? I have no fucking clue.
  15. Makes more sense than the 5000-pages-of-shite-that-you-probably-wont-need manuals that the business students get in uni.
  16. Guys, I have the most simple sense of humour. This thread had me nearly pissing myself.
  17. I do believe you're right, sir. I think that technology is pretty handy these days aswell because some of it is affordable and easy to get hold of, so people are just recording their own songs, and taking every penny for themselves. So instead of waiting to get noticed, they're making themselves noticed.
  18. I download albums, and if I like them, I buy them and delete the files from my computer. I think it's the best way, and I now have a huge cd collection full of music I adore. For example, I know for a fact that if i'd have just went ahead and bought metallicas St. Anger when it came out... i'd have been mighty pissed off at wasting 12. Instead I downloaded it before hand, expressed my disappointed views to my friends, and deleted it from my computer. Simple I do see what you mean though with people downloading albums and the band not seeing any of the money from it. I also hate it when people say "pfft, they're rich anyway." At the end of the day, the cd is that artists product that they have worked on and put their heart and soul into, and they deserve every penny they make from it. Personally, if I was in a world famous rock band, i'd make sure that the band and the producers of the record were the only ones with master copies of the tracks. That way, if it gets leaked, you can only point the finger at yourself for losing out before the cd's even released. BY THE WAY, one thing I like to do, is go into One Up and pick up one of those 1 cds at random and see what I get. I've been pleasantly surprised many a time, but sometimes i've been bitterly disappointed. There's two ways to look at it though, if I get a good one i'm like "hell yeah! Well worth a quid!" and if it's one i'm not too keen on, well it doesen't really matter... it only cost me a quid. You guys should try it!
  19. Hey guys. I'm looking for a room in Aberdeen somewhere. They closer to town the better, but i'm not REALLY that bothered about where it is. like... maximum I could pay is 250 - 300 a month. If anyone's got any offers email me at berni90@hotmail.co.uk... or reply here.
  20. Indeed I have. Nah, I mean, I really only look at guitar stuff. I did buy total guitar, but it's a fiver a month I can't currently afford... YES i'm that skint. Ultimate-guitar.com does tell you quite alot, I guess. Metal Hammer is okay, sometimes.... sometimes.
