    Pet Hates!

I have to go to a wedding next month. Yikes. Never been to one before and feared it would be pricey so I will drink as little as possible! What's the etiquette with regards to presents? My gf was wanting to spend £100 on one or give them that in cash but that seems crazy. We're not exactly super mega rich and they should have plenty of people going so sure they won't be left wanting for much. Weddings should have a student discount.

Again if you want to be properly sure go read the actual papers in question but here is an article backing chocolate milk vs isotonic drinks. http://life.dailyburn.com/diet-and-nutrition/isotonic-sports-drinks-or-milk-which-is-better-for-athletes/ and this one about skimmed milk actually cites the article in question which is a rare thing in the world of online journalism. http://www.nutraingredients.com/Research/Skimmed-milk-better-than-isotonics-for-post-sport-rehydration I don't know why anyone would think a protein shake is a suitable fluid replacement drink. Doesn't need a scientific study to conclude it won't be better than an isotonic drink.

Touché. However wikipedia is far more reliable as a peer reviewed material than most of the very bad pseudo-health sites that offer information without any sources.

Tofu is a staple food in the far east where they traditionally don't each much meat. It definitely isn't 'bad' for you in moderation. I just went and checked the 'health concerns' and a lot of it has little to no evidence. Be wary of what you read on the internet without doing your own research. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tofu#Health_issues says pretty much the same thing. That pea protein powder stuff is pretty expensive. Whilst you may not like the idea, the stuff designed for athletes/training is a bit cheaper and they generally do taste better. Totally understand if you want to stick to the natural stuff though. I am not sure how this pea protein stuff is or even how you use it in a protein context but the protein shakes are good. You can buy unflavoured too and just throw it in with porridge or your meal of choice instead of being stuck with 2.27kg or powder to have. I also have some meal replacement shakes which are good if you are in a rush for breakfast. They contain low GI carbs so you get a slow energy release. Both are alright tasting in water and a bit nicer in skimmed milk, but if you just want the added protein the pure whey is the best choice. http://www.myprotein.com/uk/products/true_whey is the stuff I use. I have had their protein bars and other products too and the flavoured stuff has always been palatable, if a little synthetic tasting. The chocolate orange protein bars were amazing though, tasted like terry's chocolate orange! But they were very dry and it was a struggle to finish one. http://www.myprotein.com/uk/products/true_mrp are the meal replacement shakes. If you go to puregym they have myprotein stuff in the vending machines, never used them so don't know what flavours. I am sure you can order trial sized packs though if you just want to try them without committing to a large pack. I am sure if there are any supplements stores in town they will have small packs to buy as well. With regards to nuts - yes they are high in fat, but they are sources of unsatured fats (ie the healthy ones that your body uses a lot of) which you should have 70g of per day. Can't remember exactly but I am pretty sure nuts are about 50% fat so you could have 50g every few days and still have 45g to play about with to still be inside the recommended guidelines. A fun fact about chocolate milk - I remember reading a study stating it was better at rehydrating after sport than isotonic sports drinks. I wouldn't use it as a source of protein but if you want something to boost your energy pre/post workout you could do worse!

Have you tried tofu? Outside of the 'meat substitutes' nuts are high in protein (I know guys doing weight training who used to eat tonnes of peanut butter for breakfast). It varies but most beans are high in protein and soy milk is pretty high protein too. When I am cooking and looking to bulk up food go to the tinned pulses aisle and buy loads of different types of beans. They are great for making chilli/bolognese/burritos and soups with. Also somewhat bizarrely cheese strings have a fair amount of protein and are pretty low in fat. Also you must be buying cheap protein powder. The stuff I have isn't too bad at all (I have tried various myprotein products due to a handy discount I got a while back). You can also get meal replacement shakes and other stuff like flapjacks/cookies/bars that are high in protein and usually taste fine if you want a bit of variety instead of just protein shakes., it's just the weird dry texture that makes them hard to eat.

My new found pet hate is rain when you are wearing glasses. Also opening ovens and getting steam in your face and being unable to see. I may be 23 but these are the first glasses I have had in about 15 years due to not going to the opticians since I was a kid. Used to have them but couldn't remember what for or why I stopped wearing them. Turns out I am pretty long sighted and I should wear them all the time (optician was pretty amazed I had got this far through uni). Despite the fact that I actually need them and didn't opt for the huge chunky frames I can't help but feeling that I look like a hipster
  7. If you are not sure get a bento box. Has a reasonable mix of stuff in it. The mochi are also ace and if you are a dessert person you should try them!
  8. Not specifically ace for me but some of you may appreciate this - BBC showing NFL from this Monday. http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/american-football/19487814 "Coverage starts on 10 September, with Cincinnati Bengals playing Baltimore Ravens and San Diego Chargers facing Oakland Raiders. The games will be live on the BBC Red Button and BBC Sport website, while Radio 5 live sports extra will also have at least one commentary per week."
  9. A bit of googling has revealed Yen Oriental in Glasgow as the nearest teppanyaki place. http://www.yenrotunda.com/ Glasgow is well worth a visit if you like Japanese food. Ichiban is there too and it's also fantastic. The lunch deal they have on during the week is incredible. Not been there in a while but from what I remember it is one of the soup based dishes and sushi for around the £6-£7 mark. http://www.ichiban.co.uk/
  10. It is amazing. Went for the first time on my anniversary and been back a few times since. Great place, but you really have to remember to make a reservation as it was pretty busy whenever I have been before. The one time we didn't make a reservation we turned up at 6 and were told we could only stay until 7 because everything was reserved. Still if you do go before 7 the prices of the early bird menu is fantastic value.
  11. Re-reading this post I actually agree with you. This happened to me once before. I agreed to guy a guitar from someone for his asking price (notice I didn't lowball him, just said I will pay the price you set), then he messaged to say someone offered a bit more and that as I was the first to express an interest, if i matched that offer I could get it at that price. I didn't even bat an eyelid to that tbh or think of it as 'mercenary/unhonourable behaviour'. I stumped up the extra cash and still have the guitar to this day. It was my favourite and most cherished until the customs came along So as long as you were polite, explained the situation and offered Ronz a fair chance to buy it for the same price someone else offered then I really have absolutely no problem with this. I retract my previous statement about you being wrong unless there was some implication of a contract (such as handshake, exchanging money etc).
  12. Well if you have a problem with someone, deal with it privately. I thought that was the 'honourable' way to do it since you seem so obsessed with this idea.Unless it genuinely affects everyone here like someone trying to shift broken/fake gear and passing it off as genuine/working and then leaving you high and dry there isn't much problem. You weren't left out of pocket and I doubt missing out on one amp is going to affect you greatly. Sometimes life is a bitch and doesn't go your way and you just have to accept it while forgiving Stroopy for his mistake.
  13. I don't see why you bothered posting this tbh. Regardless of the money you offered, I can see why you feel aggrieved, however the way to respond to that is not by being a dick and trying to shame someone publicly. Two wrongs don't make a right. If anything it just makes me think even lower of you for doing so. You already have a less than favourable reputation on here due to your constant barrage of insultingly low offers on other peoples gear. All this talk of honour and money calls into mind a little statement about people in glass houses. While you may not go back on your word it is not 'honourable' to go low balling everyone trying to sell gear; nor do you seem like you don't care about money as you ask what I consider to be fair-high prices for your gear yet seem unwilling to pay fair prices when anyone else is selling something. It all smells of hypocrisy. So yeah Stroopy was definitely wrong to back out of the deal, but you are hardly the epitome of good etiquette when it comes to selling things.
  14. I hope the younger players actually grow fast enough to make it worth your while in manager mode this year. In one of my games I persevered and played my best youth players a hell of a lot (started every game where they had full stamina, if there were 2 games in close succession they were rested until back to near full stamina) as soon as they turned 16 regardless of their crappy stats and I think the best one ended up at 83 overall by the time he was 23 from a starting rating of 70. Most of the others progressed far slower than that despite the top rating scout marking them as a promising.7 seasons of play to end up with a mediocre player. Not worth it! Plus of them are so unbalanced in stats it is not worth it either. That player than ended up so high was a LB and had crazy high marking, tackling and heading stats but his others were rubbish and he was pretty slow and weak too. I'm not expecting them to be like the wonderkids in the game and be over 80 straight out of the youth academy but at the moment frankly it's not worth even having a youth team. I just sign them, send them on loan for a couple of years (although most of them don't get taken so wallow on the sidelines doing nothing) and sell them then use the funds for better players. This is one thing the master league in PES was good at. I say 'was' as I haven't played in since the PS2 days. It was glorious buying a team of young and promising players then after a few years ending up with a world class team. As for only playing fast players, I don't only pick those with the speedster trait, but I like to have speedy LB,RB, LM, RM and at least one speedy striker. I refuse to play CB's less than 6'1 unless they have max jumping stat and also have a 'minimum' pace stat for the team. The only player in the team allowed speed/acceleration stats <75 is the goalkeeper! That allows them to at least keep up with strikers in a straight foot race. This is for my manager mode team of course. Don't really have that luxury in most squads.
  15. I don't necessarily go for the highest rated players either. I always go for the quickest ones! I just love playing fast counter attacking football. The demo for FIFA 13 is out on the 11th. I actually quite liked the PES demo this year for a change, the dribbling and touch controls were great and the arrow for manual passes is very useful. Probably get FIFA though just because I love the Virtual Pro option. The master league still shits over manager mode in FIFA so hopefully it will be better than the last couple of years. Also - post your goals from FIFA 12. This was my favourite with my virtual pro. http://www.ea.com/uk/football/videos/ugc/124816386 Scored another beauty big Sam would be proud of but didn't save properly It was the best route one goal ever. Defender on edge of the box hoofs it clear, vp outpaces lanky central defender to ball and after it bounces a couple of times volleys it into the top corner from 30 yards with his first touch.
  16. I think you are wasting your time here! If you are not registered on sevenstring.org you are nuts. a) they love music mans and someone might actually buy it b) they go crazy for axe fx's but I haven't seen anyone selling an axe fxII as everyone is still selling ultras to upgrade to the II c) you might actually get a seven string you want. The only catch with them is to post a thread in the classifieds sections you need 100 posts and have been a member for 6 months. As a new member you can still reply to threads others have posted and arrange deals though. I doubt it though as there really are hardly Ibanez guitars that second hand for that money. The Prestige models that were around £1k brand new sell for £450ish second hand, some of the Korn sigs are heading towards that mark (not the budget apex 2's, apex 1 or apex 100's will be getting towards that price) but depends which model you are after and J customs are rare as hens teeth in the UK and go for way over £1k second hand. The only other models I see go for that money regularly are some of the other super rare models like XL's, and even then you may not want a 27" scale neck. Unluckily for you there was an RG1077XL and a Jaden Rose 7 string up for sale in the UK/EU but they both sold yesterday. Jaden Rose is a UK luthier who makes pretty stunning stock/semi customs that are based on RG's. In all honesty if you get the Music Man sold I would just order a custom with the cash but each to their own! At least the custom route you definitely get what you want. EDIT: Oops. Forgot about JEM's but again they aren't up for sale hugely often. I see that you had one and sold it. Why the change of heart?

    TV Series!!

The first 4 series of Breaking Bad are in HD on netflix if you use the DNS trick. Well worth it! Think it's only the first 2 series on the UK version, can't remember. I got addicted to it but have been pretty busy so only on episode 10 or so of series 2.
  18. Buying practice rig soon. Have decided to get a pedal and power amp pedal for portability/flexibility and because frankly it sounds awesome too based primarily on home clips but also the youtube video demos are good too. Don't have the pennies to spend on the Ironheart and not sure when I will so will just have to wait for that. First priority is decent cables/cab/pedal/poweramp. Will have to wait a month to order it though as the pre amp pedal is currently out of stock until the end of September. May just order and pay for it now anyway as can still use poweramp and cab with the pedals I have now but the SS30 is what I really want. More of a clean/crunchy demo Metulz demo.
  19. I know someone whose band is endorsed by a small American string company. I can't remember how they got the deal but sure the company actually contacted them. Strange as they only formed this year but have a very slick sounding EP and gig a lot. They get packs of 7 string sets for ludicrously cheap prices (think they get charged $1 per set) and they usually get sent picks and stickers and such like free when they order strings. So yeah definitely possible but looks like there is as much luck involved as promoting yourself well to prospective companies.
  20. I hate to be the dick who calls people out on prices but you can actually buy these brand new for £143 so I think you may have an easier time selling if you reconsider that asking price. http://www.thomann.de/gb/laney_cub10.htm?sid=62c24177b44f2f5e05b47cbc0438ac85
  21. I will outbid you and sell it to you for £50 more than the winning bid. Deal? Seriously never say you are bidding on something on ebay until it's yours! Dunno if you noticed or not but the guy selling it is in Aberdeenshire so I would maybe see if he will sell it to you without the auction. Or you could be sneaky and get him to cancel the transaction if you win the auction and just pay him the winning bid -10% in cash as that is what he would get on evilbay anyway (-3% if you pay by paypal).
  22. Upload them to www.imgur.com then share the URL. You can embed images here but it requires uploading to a 3rd party site so may as well just use imgur as it is so easy. Here is one I did recently -> http://imgur.com/a/aoFgP
  23. I used to own one. This is what it should look like if it is in as good condition as mine was.
  24. Fixed4u You should take pictures outside though in future. Natural light makes gear look better and resolves quite a lot of bad picture quality issues.
