    Comedies

I've been very surprised by a few films recently which I found very funny despite thinking they looked shite. These include: Step Brothers Burn After Reading Blades of Glory I Love You Man Also Beerfest is great, in fact most films made by the Broken Lizard folk are pretty good. Anything with JCVD, Segal or Norris are hilarious too.
  3. I think that seeing ATDI performing Relationship of Command would be great (as long as they played the songs and avoided the wankery that is everpresent in The Mars Volta's live shows). Also Tool doing Lateralus would be a site to behold. Also Fleetwood Mac performing Rumours, especially when Stevie Nicks was still a slamming hottie.
  4. Nay: global warming is largely a natural process however the human impact is not exactly minimal. Rainforest degredation is a huge factor of this also. However, as Daveofficer said, in the aftermath of Kyoto, the wrong methods are being utilised to right the negative effects of anthropogenic pollution. Industrial farming methods must change and saying "we should give up meat, you go eco-warrior" is immaterial. Furthermore, there is no point getting countries like the USA and China to cut their carbon emissions, this will cost billions of dollars and is simply impractical. This money should be put in to research and development for renewable energies, which may not moderate our emissions in the short run, but will reduce our emissions of damaging gases exponentially in the future. As well as this we should be putting these billions of dollars aside for adapting to the inevitable impacts of global warming (if we even have to), as well as what I believe to be more pressing issues in society: in example poverty, HIV/AIDS, malaria, malnutrition, free trade etc. 180 odd (+/-) years of greedy resource usage and economic development by the human cannot be alleviated by 10-15 years of behavioural changes in society, it is unfeasible. Hopefully this can be realised during the procedings in Copenhagen this week. (cool story bro'?)
  5. Not their cover of Umbrella. The Vertigo of Bliss is their finest album in my opinion. I like all of their albums although I have not heard their latest one. Puzzle admittedly wasn't great, but I think I would have liked it more if it wasn't a Biffy Clyro album. Or would I have liked it less...? I thought Big Sur was a great tune, but I simoltaneously hate it as it led to me forking out 7 for their first album in HMV a few years back. Utter, non-descript, boring, retro-but-in-a-bad-bad-way, pishy, goose flap. What happened to Schmuk? They were incredible.
  6. In my opinion it is about trying to prevent violent crime, but also - and to a greater extent - that people who commit this kind of crime desrve their comeuppence. It's everywhere in the media: brutal gang violence being punished by relatively meagre fines as well as non-punishments like "being told to behave" as was highlighted in a prior post. These people need to be caught and taught a proper ruddy lesson about their actions as in many cases this crime is completely barbaric and unacceptable in contemporary society. If people are taught a good old lesson, and this is is done regularly and consistently, the frequency of violent crime will deteriorate to some degree. That is why I too believe CCTV and police presence should be increased as there are few more resources that can be utilised; unless the police begin commending violent vigilantism...?
  7. Christmas dinner in the Dallas household is a bit special. Unfortunately this year it will only be my mum, dad and I as my three older brothers are all spending it with their wife/girlfriend/fiancee respectively in regards to age. I'm sure we'll get a good old get together at some point though which is why I like christmas. Baby Jesus is alright I guess. New year will probably be a pissup in someone's house somewhere. The missus is away to Belfast with her pal so I will probably see friends from home. I'm excited now!
  8. I too vote for E2V as they're the only band I've seen live out of the lot and I like them and my brother plays drums for them.

    Lady Gaga

One of her songs is on an advert for a tv show at the moment (Gossip Girl?) and it sucks. The chorus is just her making noises that might sound like words to someone who doesn't speak english but are actually just shit noises. Its really annoying me and it keeps coming on. She's like "roo, roo, blah, blah, goo, goo, ga, ga, na, na, bo, bo, ra, ga, ga, ga" or something. I have to change the channel now when it comes on. I so would though, she's fucking mental and I reckon she would be up for anything.
  10. Good tunes. Cheesy, but I like cheesy.

That sounds like something I saw in a dream.

    CD Albums

Pearl Jam - Backspacer is really good. Took me longer to get into than their previous two albums but is very relistenable after one or two listens. Pearl Jam are my fave.
  13. I guess when coupled with a floor tom on his right it gives a more fuller/meaty sound. It's all about how you use your drums and he seems to only really use it for that big BOOM sort of sound so it saves him stretching round to his right to hit both floor toms. Notice Travis at about 1 minute into this video: YouTube - blink-182 - Adam's Song An odd example but the only one I could think of. It is reasonably common though.

    CD Albums

I like "When the Stars go Blue" by Ryan Adams because they sing it together in One Tree Hill which is a really well written and acted programme...
  15. It may be because I've been in the library since 9am but I find this funny:
  16. Not when David and I do it to Kitey. He's a really heavy sleeper. We did it to him a fortnight ago on Thursday as a matter of fact.
  17. What rumours? Should I be worried? Are Huw and Ross using the band to somehow distribute child porn?
  18. I'm looking for a new snare. What does the snare drum sound like? Can you explain this with out drummer jargon and just compare it to the snare sound of a drummer I might know? Also, how much do you want?
  19. It's pretty good. Some of the bits remind me of a Ivor Cutler which is strange! Good sounds though.
  20. Yas. Tickets will be purchased when they are out. I reiterate: yas.
  21. Trash Talk were the worst thing I've ever witnessed. Lazy, lazy song writing and a dickhead front man. Sharks were alright and I enjoyed Gallows greatly.
  22. Is this gig sold out yet? My pal and I fancy going but neither of us have tickets. Will there be some on the door if we turn up early enough?
  23. You're freaking me out now as I live in Hilton. I always walk through the lane between Back Hilton Road and Ashgrove as well which is probably rather dangerous late at night. My flatmate got his jaw broken in two places a couple of years ago by 4 pissed up shirt and shoe boys. I was walking about 30 yeards behind him as I had to pee - tactically avoiding the CCTV - and I managed to run in from behind and get us both out. Luckily I only got a punch in the back of the head but his face was all fucked up. He did however get about two grand in criminal compensation and travelled around Europe for 2 months the next summer but it scares me to think what would have happened to the poor lad if I hadn't been there, or what would have happened to us both had I not had a weak bladder. Fair enough he got money and his jaw healed quickly enough, but he wont go out in Aberdeen anymore, although he denies that getting beaten up was why. When my brother worked in A & E he had people coming in every week with their faces battered in and their cheeks hanging off. One guy had been out for a couple with his son and had stuck up for him when he got started on. There was CCTV footage of this mob - 4 or 5 guys - one of which took a running kick at the victims face after he had already had the shit beaten out of him and was unconscious. They each got a fine of 800 or so. I don't think this is hard justice for this sort of crime and there is no excuse for it. If you get angry and want to beat someone to within an inch of their life when you're pissed, you shouldn't be allowed to drink. It makes me sick to here about this shit and I agree with Shaki that you have to be psychotic to do something like this. I want to see harder justice - i.e prison - for this kind of behaviour as it is intolerable and utterly sadistic.
