  1. I'm a huge fan so I'm maybe biased but I saw them in Carling Academy last year and they were good. The sound for the first 4 or 5 songs was ghastly but the technicians managed to amend it and it was a great show. OK, they don't recreate their recordings, but at least they don't try and fail. Jesse Lacey uses so many vocal tracks on the records and as far as I can tell he's the only one in the band who can sing. That's so weird, I didn't know people liked them, they wouldn't normally be my cup of tea but I think they're wonderful. And, as aforementioned, he writes the best lyrics I have heard. Simply beautiful. I could write thousands of words on my love for this band so I'll just stop now. Biggest disappointment: easily Iron Maiden in SECC in 2005. I was a fan of their earlier work and they just played songs from "Dance of Death" or whatever shite they'd recently released at the time. Was utter wank. Had a good rock out to tracks like "Hallowed be they Name" and "Fear of the Dark" to conclude the set which almost made up for how bored I was for the hour and a half before that and how pissed off I was for spending 25 pocket money on a ticket. I should have expected it though I suppose. In terms of a CD... anything the chili peppers have done after BSSM or Sigur Ros's recent effort. Might need a bit more time on that one though. I was also recently informed by a reliable source that the new Metallica album was "really good". I no longer consider that source reliable.
  2. She's my brother (Duncan Dallas: used to play drums for Flaming Katy, now for Escape to Victory)'s girlfriends best friend. She's fae Aberdeen. She came to see Static in the City at The Lemon Tree and said she thought I was hot! Chuffed!
  3. Did he die of a hart attack? oh... I thought he died like 5 years ago... maybe someone just enjoys starting rumours that after school, kids art programme hosts have died. Like Neil Buchanan, he didn't die did he?
  4. I just remembered Edinburgh festival 2007! Simon Amstel officially hates my cheeky, irish flatmate and I. We kept bumping into him and drunkenly jabbering at him. He was a bit of a cock so we proceeded to just annoy him everytime we saw him, which racked up to about 4 times in as many days! Andrew Maxwell was good craic though, came for a beer with us and all. Was a good week.
  5. I knocked over Jeffrey De Visscher's daughter in the Tesco on King Street. He was with her and said "hey man what you doing?2 and I said "oh, sorry I didn't see her. You're Jeffrey De Visscher." He then did a weird Fonze-esque pose with his two thumbs up then walked off. I only meet Aberdeen players in the King Street Tesco... Darren Mackie, Jackie Macnamara and Chris Maguire. Chris Maguire was just after Aberdeen had lost 4-0 to Peterhead in pre-season. I said nothing. I went to school with Andrew Considine too.
  6. Right now I'm loving: The Empire Strikes First - Bad Religion

  8. Does anyone want to practice at tom's from 10-12pm tomorrow night. We had it booked but two people cannae make it now so we cancelled. Are going to get charged anyway but only the bassist and singer are available so there is really no point in us turning up anyway. Any takers.... go on... Dallas
  9. My hands are bananas, some find it's absurdity hilarious, others go: "what? that's not funny" YouTube - My Hands Are Bananas
  10. Murdoes Bar at Hilton roundabout. Otherwise known as "Murder Bar" this wee joint has it's very own police station. Since I moved in to my house on Rosehill Drive I've been told by 3 different people (2 of which frequent the place) not to go there because I may never leave... you know, being reasonably well spoken and generally happy about life. Sorry, pointless reply.
  11. Since when do you like boxing? Since I started liking football?
  12. Die! * Chemical Romance *(my) "trust me. I'M NOT O.K."
  13. I'm so glad so many people dislike Razorlight. I'm not generally one to rip into a famous band and say they're shit, however Razorlight are awful. Jonny (thingy)... the singer anyway, is a complete twat. There music is so bad it upsets me. That one about "blah blah blah... mumble in america" is rotten. Then he compares himself to musical royalty... dickhead. Lets start another thread - pointless it may be - where we can slag off Razorlight and their shit-for-brains singer. God I hate them... I feel angry thinking about them. Is that stupid?
  14. Haha, are we thinking of the same Schmuk? Take it easy
  15. I'm a drummer currently plating in Static in the City - MySpace.com - Static in the City - UK - Indie / Rock / Progressive - www.myspace.com/staticinthecity - but I'm looking to start a hard rocking band in a similar vein to Mogwai or Explosions in the Sky. My musical tastes vary from Slipknot to Joni Mitchell and then back to Pearl Jam, with a spot of Cat Power along the way. I'm also 20 and go to Aberdeen uni. I don't think age is terribly important though. I want to start this type of band as I enjoy the freedom and experimentalism of the genre "post rock" - and there's no need to find a decent singer! If anyone is keen geez a shout! Dallas

  17. Fundraiser for the Mkondazi pre-school in Northern Malawi. This is an independant, non-governmental pre-school that accomodates for around 100 pupils on Nhkata Bay, Malawi. My friend Jess and I are organising this gig as Jess used to work there and it is need of funds so please, come along and help them out!!! We've arranged a really good line up for anyone to come along and enjoy and it needs to be a success. So, if you're going to go and see a local gig this week, come and see this one. cheers Dallas of SitC Crashdown: www.myspace.com/crashdown The Marionettes: www.myspace.com/themarionettes Static in the City: www.myspace.com/staticinthecity Justin Martin: www.myspace.com/justinmartin simple, no?

  19. Alright everyone. My friend Jess and I are organising a fundraising gig for the Mkondazi pre-school, Nkhata Bay, Malawi. This is a non governmental pre-shool in Malawi accomodating for around 100 pupils, that Jess worked at and is in need of serious help! As it is in independant pre-school, it receives very little funding and we really want to make a difference and but - as students - it's not like we can simply right them a cheque. So, we have booked out the Tunnels to hold a fundraiser for the school and i just need bands. I was hoping to get a variety of real quality bands from around Aberdeen to sign up (I think we need about 5). I'm afraid you wont be paid but it is genuinely a good opportunity to play your music to a large group of people. We reckon just between the two of us we could get a huge crowd just out of our friends and aquantances, therefore once we've sold tickets and other bands bring people in, it promises to be nice and busy. So, if you could get back to me that would be fantastic! My own band - Static in the City (MySpace.com - Static in the City - Aberdeen, UK - Indie / Rock / Progressive - www.myspace.com/staticinthecity) - are the only band signed up thus far so please help us out! Or rather, in the hope that i don't sound like a cheesy dick, help these children out. They need it. cheers Dallas of SitC
  20. Just an innocent (I've oddly forgotten how to spell that word) message to urge you to take a quick listen to the demo on our myspace.com/staticinthecity any feedback will be accepted. We're just trying to gain a reputation. Got a few gigs in the near future as well.
