  1. This is like an awful, painfully slow, gruesomely detailed version of One Red Paperclip. At this rate, you might get the house before you retire
  2. So... back to the GAS? Not that I have any just now. Still would love a shottie of a Yamaha SBV-J2 (or any Yamaha SBV to be honest). Let's see that again: I see that R&B have got Epiphone Thunderbird Classic Pros back in stock - I might pop in for a try of one at the weekend, and bring a strap with me to assess the balance. Same construction method (neck through), same types of wood used (mahogany/walnut laminated neck, mahogany wings), same pickups as the USA models - Gibson have gone a bit mad lately. If they're good, it's going to make a USA Gibson Thunderbird difficult to justify to anyone who isn't bothered about brand snobbery.
  3. Well, if you want Wizard pickups, you'll have to find them second hand - the Wizard has retired.
  4. Jan waxing lyrical about a Gibson. Anything is possible now
  5. They all burst in the end. They're all pretty comfy in the beginning but every one I've slept on goes down a bit overnight. Get an electric air pump for it (if you can stand the noise). Alternatively you do get ones with built in manual pumps. Quieter, but a workout for your leg to inflate. We had one and it was fine but it eventually broke at the pump.
  6. Hmph, busy/unavailable on all the dates listed so far, otherwise I'd have loved to get involved in this venture, with either or both of my bands. Sad sauce
  7. Bit of an exaggeration I suspect when you consider the great strides forward that Squier have made in recent years, particularly with the Vintage Modified then Classic Vibe ranges. Not to mention the revered early JV and SQ serial numbered Squiers, and the well regarded Silver Series. I think your assertion only applies to the Squier Affinity range, which are built to a super affordable price point and therefore compromises must be made. I also doubt that you've tried enough of a variety of Squier gear to be in a position to make such an assertion, but that's a whole different argument. Talk is cheap, and trash talk is the cheapest.
  8. How's everyone doing? Simply coveting stuff and drooling, or doing something about it? Already sold it? I've looked back through my contributions to the Gear that you want thread and it's gone like this: Ibanez Promethean amp - SUCCESS (KINDA) - got a "clone" of it instead. Still got it, very happy with it. Gibson RD Artist (post 1979) - SUCCESS - My wife bought me it. Still got it. Guild B-302A - SUCCESS (KINDA) - got a B-402A but traded it for a G&L El Toro. Yamaha BB1100s - SUCCESS (KINDA) - went on a BB bender, had a BB614, BB300, BB350F, BB450. Still got the last two. Gibson SG-Z - SUCCESS - sold it though. Gibson Grabber 3 70s Tribute - UNMITIGATED DISASTER - bought 2, both were shit, sent back. Yamaha SBV-J2 - DENIED - no luck locating one thus far. Epiphone Jack Casady - SUCCESS - still got it. Greco 3 pickup Les Paul bass - DENIED - saw one online in Japan but baulked at the postage cost. Fender Coronado/Starcaster - SUCCESS - tried both, got a Starcaster. Still got it. Gibson EB 2014 - SUCCESS - still got it. 8/11. Nae bad. GAS still leaking, but quietly and crucially in a non-combustible way at the moment.
  9. I worked at the ice rink at Stoneywood until it went bust. I was working on the day the agents of doom came in. As I recall, they were rather ... officious. They swarmed all over the place, noting stuff down. Inventory done, they left a copy on the table for our reference and went on their merry way. Me and the boss sat at a table feeling pretty sorry for ourselves. Nothing else to do but have a look over the list. We went down to the cellar and found a surprising amount of stuff not on the list, including (rather suspiciously) 5 bottles of Macallan. There were 5 guys doing the inventory. Hmmm. We quickly decided to fuck them over and took everything that wasn't on the list. I went to a house party after with a fine bottle of whisky and don't remember much more after that. I suppose the job really left me. Either way, it was simultaneously the worst and best way I've left a job.
  10. These days, it's one of the ugly doggie baddies from the 1986 Batman computer game (3D isometric game like and predating Head Over Heels).
  11. 3 songs now contributed and mostly finished. One idea came about from some music being blared at customers at a far too trendy for me clothes shop. I can't stand that, but I heard a chord sequence somewhere in there that had me humming it all the way home until I could get to the computer and 1) figure out what it was and 2) note it down. It grew into a song, mostly because I had a bass riff noted down which amazingly happened to be in the same key. Bonus! Basis for verse plus basis for chorus == song. Just had to add a change middle bit so it wasn't the same all the way through and some words. Done. 3 songs out of 11, not bad for starters. 1 in the pipeline, and this time I'm actually scoring out what I'd like the horns to (kinda) do instead of leaving them to it.
  12. There's a high chance that a computing teacher's phone will have let him know that you're stalking him the second you clicked the Add Friend button...
  13. And they said you can't change the laws of physics
  14. Check which interpolation you're using. I think Cubic gives best results, but experiment. Of course it depends upon the relative sizes we're talking about here.
  15. I have a bass box but it was for a bass in a hard case so it might be a bit big for your needs.
  16. I enjoyed the first track, it felt more like it was getting progressively less crisp/more scuzzy as it went on (apart from the wee lull in the middle) and I liked that progression. The cymbals/hat wash together and I quite liked that too. Found myself looking for more input from the bass though. I must confess that I wasn't overly keen on the spoken word either, thanks for the link to the non speaky one. I liked the main guitar melody, it seemed "vocal" in the sense that I could imagine someone singing some words on that melody. I see what Jan means about loud, LOUD, LOUDER, I don't have a problem with it once in a while as long as it doesn't become the modus operandi. Recording-wise, I enjoyed their washy, spacious qualities, but could have done with a bit more heft given to the bass. I was listening through decent headphones, not laptop speakers, before you ask
  17. Did you really think I was so stupid that I needed that explained to me? I am hurt I was merely highlighting the identical abbreviation of that particular format and the device itself. Hence the muddying waters.
  18. I learned to do my own setups. It's really quite simple as long as you're methodical and don't tighten up truss rods like Desperate Dan.
  19. Bah, beaten to it. Fail. But to further muddy the waters: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Video_Cassette_Recording Still, Lucky is correct. Nitpickers - learn to read
  20. Well in that case, you were producing lovely bassage - in terms of what you were playing and volume and EQ set in a sweeeeeeet spot. This bass player enjoyed that very much. Nice to see/hear the Dano again. Thanks to Ross for everything that did go through the desk
