  1. I like the Shahbaaz in Rose Street. The owners, Mr Latif and Mr Rafiq, are always there to ensure everything is perfect. I've been going there for over 20 years and highly recommend the Shahbaaz. I will be there late tonight so no Aberdeen Music Stalking!
  2. I don't know about the other names that have previously been mentioned but I can confirm that my "Facebook Friend" James Walbourne is booked. James used to be with Chrissie Hynde and The Pretenders, the Pernice Brothers etc. He has been much in demand for recording sessions here in the UK and in the USA. James is featured prominently on Jerry Lee Lewis's recent Mean Old Man CD that was recorded in Memphis. James is on Heavenly Records and often appears at the same show as his labelmate Edywnn Collins who is also booked for the Aberdeen Festival. These links detail both artists' latest recordings. James Walbourne // Heavenly Recordings Edwyn Collins // Heavenly Recordings This is a link to James playing some great guitar. James is a very accomplished musician.
  3. He was great. Good to see him live for the first time.
  4. There is only one choice for a sleeper to London but I would suggest you also check out the following link to East Coast Trains Journey selection as you can see by the name at the end of the link I would guess they have a musican writing the program! The only good thing I can say about the sleeper service is that if you really need to be in London in the morning the train will surely get you there. Planes can go tech and get hit by fog and all kinds of delays. The train always gets to London on time but every time I go on it I promise myself I will never do it again. I just can't sleep on the train, I am forever rolling up the blind to see where we are - oh damn Carstairs - better shut the blind again and hope there isn't a full moon. I like the Easy Jet service to Luton and then take their bus into London. It goes real fast in the bus lane through all the traffic in Hampstead. Hop off at Marble Arch and you are quickly and cheaply in the middle of London. Fly BE also offer a good service to London but it is far more expensive. Hopefully the addition of the new Easy Jet service to London Gatwick will have the effect of reducing Fly Be's fares. Whether by train or plane - book ahead for the best bargain. Remember to add in an all day underground ticket.
  5. She is obviously very talented and like all Mum's of kids who want to be in show business I expect she strives to help her lad realise his ambitions. All good fortune to Liam and his Mum,
  6. An oldie like me would only describe the music as "modern" but the video itself must have taken hours and hours of work and planning. I agree with the last two comments from Jim Stax and from Foxhunting (himself a very talented teenage peformer and writer). Good luck to this lad Liam. He has done a lot already that others just dream about. He should be approached to become a member here.
  7. He was still playing boogie woogie piano last month and did a show at the Edinburgh Playhouse a couple of years ago. Lots of people have been influenced by him and over the years. He played in the Muddy Waters band for most of the sixties. 75 years ago he was playing with Sonny Boy Williamson (number 1). A few weeks ago he became the oldest Grammy award winner in history when "Joined at the Hip", his LP with fellow veteran Willie Big Eyes Smith, was awarded a Grammy for the Best Traditional Blues Album He won another Grammy back in 2005. There are some pictures of the 2005 occassion when he was joined by the late but great Ike Turner and other Grammy Winners. Bob Corritore Photos
  8. I agree with Skacel - there is not much to beat Bill Hicks. This routine about Elvis dying is something else. http://www.kyleesplin.com/billhicks.mp3 I liked the late Lenny Bruce too and saw him ages and ages ago at the Establishment Club in London. Bill Hicks was a worthy successor. Thanks to Shaki actually getting the tickets well in advance I am also looking forward to Doug Stanhope at the Lemon Tree on April 7th. I like him too as he takes a similar attitude to Bill Hicks and Lenny. It should be a good night and I see it is totally sold out.
  9. click on the following Japanese link to hear them. What next Guitar Socks?
  10. Charlie Sheen is taking his bizarre antics to the stage and hitting the road for a number of live shows. The troubled actor has addressed the public in a number of internet TV shows over the last few weeks and now he is set to get up close and personal with his followers in a number of live shows, called Charlie Sheen Live: My Violent Torpedo of Truth/Defeat is Not An Option. He has announced two dates in April at theatres in Detroit, Michigan and Chicago, Illinois and tickets go on sale on Saturday. The show listing, posted on the Ticketmaster website reads, "My Violent Torpedo of Truth/Defeat is Not An Option Show is coming for you. I'm going on the road. LIVE. Will there be surprises? Will there be guests? Will there be mayhem? Will you ask questions? Will you laugh? Will you scream? Will you know the truth? Will there be more?!?! This is where you will hear the REAL story from the Warlock. Bring it. I dare you to keep up with me."

  13. The kp index was quite low on Monday night but enhanced enough for the Aurora to be seen as far south as Kelso. This is what the March 1st event looked like at Fairbanks in Alsaka - quite spectacular. http://www.aberdeen-music.com/galleries/showimage.php?i=16858&c=3159
  14. last night's aurora - pics from Here are a couple of pictures of last night's aurora. I have copied these from the Stargazers website which is an excellent source for information and reports of visual sightings. A couple of pics from Aberdeen and another two taken from much further south at Kelso. www.aberdeen-music.com/galleries/showimage.php?i=16857&catid=member&imageuser=5210 http://www.aberdeen-music.com/galleries/showimage.php?i=16855&catid=member&imageuser=5210 http://www.aberdeen-music.com/galleries/showimage.php?i=16856&c=member&imageuser=5210
  15. auroral acitivity Sorry for the slow response I had to go into Aberdeen. Right now the skies are clear but it could come back any minute. The link below shows an awful lot of red! This diagram shows how far south the auroral activity is extending. As you can see from the chart on the last pass of the satellite the area was reaching further south than us. I am going to bed - got to work tomorrow - suggest you only wake your parents if you see a lot of activity. Graham PS I am at Findon - very close to you - but this villages has no street lights at all but I do get some light from Aberdeen to the north. From Newtonhill you should see it best if it re-appears looking out to sea towards the North East. PM me how you get on - otherwise we will bore all the musicians. Northern Hemisphere Enlarged View
  16. visible aurora tonight Quite a good visual aurora right now. It fades and ripples in and out but quite a wide, curtain like display. If you are somewhere clear of street lighting look towards the North East. It always nice to see the Northern Lights and this display is free!
  17. I Go Ape lyrics John, Mr Bigsby mentioned your sartorial style - but at the interview did they mention you have to wear a gorilla suit and sing these lyrics?: I go ape every time I see you smile I'm a ding dong gorilla and I'll carry you cave man style I'm gonna bump you on the head and love you all the while Well, I'm a monkey's uncle who's a cousin to a chimpanzee Like I was reelin' and a rockin' and a swingin' from a coconut tree Oh, honey can't you see you bring out the monkey business in me Ranga tanga ring ting tong, I'm related to old King Kong Honey won't you say you're mine With a honky tonky monkey shine When you hold my hand I'm a pre-historic man, I go ape! Like a barrel on monkeys on an abadaba honeymoon I go squealin' and a screechin' and a howlin' like a big baboon Well baby I'll explode if you don't come and kiss me soon, yae yaa Ohh, honey you know that I'm gonna be true to you I'll keep you in bananas and bring you coconuts too And we'll settle down in the nearest county zoo, woh Ranga tanga ring ting tong, I'm related to old King Kong, woo Honey won't you say you're mine With a honky tonky monkey shine When you hold my hand I'm a pre-historic man, I go ape! 22. all for 3dB Stroopy 121 is absolutely right. The easiest way to think of this is that every time you double the power you add 3dB. If you are already running 500 watts this is quite difficult to achieve physically - when you get up to that level - these are Golden Decibels.
  23. Escape to Victory Escape to Victory certainly pleased the big crowd and the main vocalist was all over the Moorings - just about bouncing off the walls - the entire bar was his stage - well done Mr Flash for equipping him with a radio mike with such wide coverage.
  24. Special Applause for Shaki at the Moorings tonight :love:Shaki got engaged today! Congratulations to drummer Shaki and Nicola. Does the Moorings do Champagne?
