  1. The toilets had a funny smell. - isn't this normal at musical gigs ?
  2. For the second night in a row I have gone back to work after attending a packed show at Musa. I only had time to see the opening act - Foxhunting - a solo artist who is a member of the Aberdeen Music Group. He has recently been making very sensisble comments on this forum so I decided to check him out. I missed his first gig supporting the Malpaso Gang but he should be well pleased with reception he got for his second ever gig tonight. Although he is not yet old enough to buy a drink in Musa, Foxhunting really pleased the packed out crowd with a 25 minute, six number set of his own compositions. He confessed to being nervous before he started but his first song was warmly applauded and the volume of applause rose and rose with each song. Mr Fox may be young but he has a strong voice that enounciates his complex lyrics clearly and he makes a big sound with his guitar. At the end of his rousing set he had members of the audience keen to shake his hand and congratulate him on a very successful second ever gig. He seems to have the music and lyrics down pat but he needs to work on some linking material to tell the audience about each number. Well done Foxhunting.
  3. Malpaso Gangs at Musa An extended set from the Malpaso Gang at a sompletely full Musa tonight. Excellent show - great music and great food. Waht more could you want? Well done Nina and the Gang.
  4. Looks like a great gig - I will be there. More Internet music from the Ragun' Cajun in Louisiana at this link: very amusing local adverts too KLRZ 100.3 FM, KLEB 1600 AM & KANE 1240 AM - The Rajun' Cajun - Member of the Coastal Broadcasting Radio Network
  5. Harlem legend dead Bobby Robinson, owner of Happy House on 125th St. Quite a number of the members of this Group have been to New York and some may have met Bobby Robinson - he was something else - a great shop to find old blues records as well as discs that Bobby had released on his own labels.
  6. another Berry clip This one is quite funny too - with Eric Clapton and Keith Richards CHUCK BERRY KEITH RICHARDS CLAPTON - Understand Each Other
  7. You are right. I always smile when I watch this Chuck versus Keith clip - with Chuck telling Keith to "Leave the amp as I set it. That's my amp and I'm setting it the way I want..... YouTube - Chuck Berry vs Keith Richards! -Hilarious
  8. There have already been some erroneous reports on TV about this - this is what actually happened. Chuck had appeared on stage in Chicago and was obviously unwell during his set but he kept on performing a set that at times confused the backing band. He stopped playing guitar and played a few notes on the piano but then slumped onto the keyboard. He then stood up and tried to play his guitar again but as this clip shows he became very disorientated and the venue's management stopped the show and and he was helped from the stage. Paramedics checked his blood pressure and heart but he refused to go to hospital. After about 15 minutes he came back on stage and siad that he felt he was back to being 10 years old when he slumped over the piano, he said he now felt like he was 65 but the management were refusing to give him back his guitar. He apologised to fans and said he would be back and do another New Year show next year. This clip shows him attempting to "duckwalk" off the stage. Chuck is 84 - the previous night he had done two shows at BB King's Club in New York - this show was in Chicago. Chuck has "overshot the runway" a few times in the past but this is as big a scare as there has ever been. Chuck is now home in Wentzville, St Louis. This is a clip of Chuck playing 51 years ago YouTube - Chuck Berry - Johnny B. Goode (Live 1958)
  9. My team: "The Fadercats" Maggie Thatcher Pinetop Perkins Cherie Blair Nelson Mandela Paddy Ashdown Prince Philip Winnie Mandela Peter Mandelson Jeremy Clarkson Jimmy Saville Angela Lansbury Jeremy Thorpe Larry King Joe Longthorne David Furnish Rupert Murdoch Elton John Simon Cowell Louis Walsh Joker: Sharon Osborne With the exception of the 97 year old Pinetop Perkins who is still a working musican and who I hope lives to 110 - all the rest of them have really annoyed me for years and years.
  10. Kai sighted Hi-fi expert and Zambian Astronaut member Kai at the foot of Esslemont Avenue at 9.15am.
  11. very funny commercial with Japanese commentary
  12. Yes another lively set from the Malpaso Gang - Son Henry was outstandingly good. Looking forward to the Moorings show on Staurday night.
  13. I remember when Marc Ellington used to play the Bobbin Mill in King Street - I really am ancient so he must be too.
  14. In an earlier post about the Malposo Gang @ Musa I wrote: "Guitar collector, Bigsby, showed off just 10 per cent of his guitar collection by only bringing three guitars to the gig: his trusty Telecaster, A Chet Atkins Epiphone, and a Burns Double Six 12 string. It was a good debut from this new band. It was also my first time in Musa and I must say I was most impressed and will be going back for food as well as music." This is probably the wrong thread to write about the food but as promised above I went back to Musa tonight and had a great meal. The best rare steak I have had in Aberdeen for years - so the place is highly recommended for the food as well as being a great venue for music. I must book up for the next Malpaso Gang at Musa in January. I notice that they have a bottle of beer on the menu called "Sink the Bismarck" that cost 41. It is a pity I don't drink beer as this must be something really special. Maybe i should buy my near namesake Bob Knight one and get his considered opinion.
  15. this is my Facebook - I will add you and sorry I forgot to mention your compositions. CU next week at the hotel gig. Graham Graham Knight | Facebook
  16. I liked your sax playing - very good. Keep rockin'
  17. Just got home from seeing The Malpaso Gang's performance at Musa in Exchange Street. This well rehearsed five piece entertained an appreciative audience with a selection of country numbers in a slightly rocked up rather than classical manner. The band members will mostly be well known to Aberdeen Music affiandos as it comprises of Bigsby, drummer Chris (ex Panda Eyes), Son Henry on steel guitar, bass Dave (Mighty Scuba), and vocalist Nina (Hashimoto Jones). They played a very tight set that was billed as from the 50's and 50's but their biggest number of the night was the 1947 hit for Hank Williams - Honky Tonkin'. They did this so well that they reprised it again to end the show. Another standout was their interpretation of the George Jones/ Big Bopper hit - White Lightning. The vocals from Nina were outstandingly good and the drumming was solid. All three guitarists showed they had been rehearsing well and that they had spent time listening to the originals. Guitar collector, Bigsby, showed off just 10 per cent of his guitar collection by only bringing three guitars to the gig: his trusty Telecaster, A Chet Atkins Epiphone, and a Burns Double Six 12 string. It was a good debut from this new band. It was also my first time in Musa and I must say I was most impressed and will be going back for food as well as music.
  18. Just come from a gig at Cellar 35 in Rosemount Viaduct. The entertainment started with a solo acoustic set from Colin McDonald. Three excellent self-penned compositions got the set off to a good start and after a short break he was joined by the Fugitives for a rock'n'roll set. Two young ladies on drums and sax livened up the guitar sound created by Oscar and Lucky Rathen. A medley of 50's rock'n'roll numbers went down well with Be Bop A Lula getting a good recption from a crowd who were definitely too young to be around the first time this Gene Vincent number was a million seller. This band ought to be playing bigger places. PS Aberdeen Music Moderator Lucky Rathen appeared playing bass in his mustachioed Paul McCartney (circa Sergeant Pepper) persona.
  19. This is an interesting discussion. Here is a picture that was taken today in New York. It shows Roger McGuinn the co-founder of The Byrds with Forfar's Kyle Esplin. http://www.aberdeen-music.com/galleries/showimage.php?i=16705&catid=member&imageuser=5210 Both musicians were talking about royalties and Roger remarked that he never got any royalties from his big multi million sellings hits with the Byrds - songs like Turn, Turn, Turn and Mr Tambourine Man. He did say he likes the download site MP3.COM as they pay him regularly. This is a link to Roger playing Turn, Turn Turn with Shaki's favorite - Bruce Springsteen. Dailymotion - Turn! Turn! 20. Frosty Jack is a moderator here but was far from moderate at the Lorelei Gig at the Blue Lamp last nigh - he is a pile driving drummer. Huge appreciative crowd that were dancing around to the Lorelei. Music from the six musicians will be well known to members of Aberdeen Music but I was seeing them for the first time. It is an unusual mix of punk, rock, and celtic - at one point some of the dancers seemed to be doing a speeded up eightsome reel. My Facebook "friend" Gerry Jablonski, a long established Aberdeen musician, performed an outstanding set. It was a good night and for charity. A special thanks to all who took part.
  21. I don't have much faith in these tests - especially judging by these results of a few minutes ago. I know that Rosemount is very close to the exchange and that it is a fast connection but it is not as good as these results indicate. Graham
  22. autocue QUOTE from Shaki Noticed there's an autocue in the clip of Great Balls of Fire! I assume that's not for Gerry's benefit! I think the Rock'N'Roll Hall of Fame was taking no chances that night - it was first night people were inducted and every singer at that first show could have used the autocue if they wanted. I noticed Lou Reed used an autocue at his last appearance in Memphis - I suppose he has an excuse for forgetting some of his lyrics. it is 17 years since I saw Bruce Springsteen call Jerry up on stage at a festival in Ireland. There are bootlegs around of their numbers but nothing has been officially released.
  23. YouTube - Remembering SOLOMON BURKE (1940 - 2010) Solomon died yesterday while still sitting on a plane that had landed in Amsterdam. Solomon was on his way to gig. He and Jerry had the same agent and above is a link to the two of them singing together.
  24. Well done Mr Springsteen here are a couple of old links:
