  1. Thanks for the kind words, guys, I'm glad you are enjoying it. If anyone's interested, both bands have upcoming gigs in the next couple of weeks: Needleman are playing Downstairs tomorrow and then at The Moorings next Saturday with Absolutist. Das Mc are playing Cellar 35 this Saturday with Deathcats, Min Diesel and Halfrican. Thanks for listening :-)
  2. Thought this might be relevant to folks' interests- in addition to trying to improve my ability as a musician this year, I'm also interested in developing my listening skills with view to becoming a little more involved in the engineering process with some of our self-released stuff. Got sent a link to this free distance-learning short course online and it looks like anyone can sign up: https://www.futurelearn.com/courses/critical-listening-for-studio-production It looks fairly basic and mainly rooted in theory, but for a complete beginner like me, I'm hoping it might be beneficial!
  3. I'm aiming to improve my backing vocals. It's something that I've tried to work on myself, but until I learn to do project my voice properly, I'm just going to continue hurting my throat. Hoping to get some lessons booked.
  4. This'll be the first year in a while that I'm not cooking my own food. I've perfected a caramelised shallot and porcini mushroom porter gravy over the past few Christmases. Made by reduction rather than with a roux so takes forever to cook, worth it for making the house smell glorious though!
  5. Seas, Starry had plans to finish and release our new album, but mainly due to scheduling issues, it didn't happen. We've now totally finished recording and mixing though, so will be hoping to get it mastered and pressed to vinyl by the spring. We had various one off releases on Not A Teepee and The Active Listener compilations, a split 7" with Palace of Swords and a track on the Laika Come Home Christmas comp. Das McManus have been quiet, but started recording again this month for a split EP with Needleman that'll be out early next year. Jan and I started a covers collective called Cherbourg Harps Assembly and recorded a few tunes that we popped up on Soundcloud. That quietened down a bit recently due to lack of free time, but hoping to get going again in the new year.
  6. Most of my faves have been mentioned already (Eartha Kitt, Low, Min etc.) with the exception of: KATE. I totally love Kate. Reverb and sleigh bells are the best mix: I'm also having this, on account of there being Santa costumes and mad skillz.
  7. Ooh, I didn't see you. Good stalk. Good gig.
  8. In no order, my top 10: Chelsea Light Moving- Chelsea Light Moving Grouper- The Man Who Died In His Boat Retribution Gospel Choir- 3 His Name Is Codeine- The Only Truth Is Music Parquet Courts- Light Up Gold Laura Veirs- Warp and Weft D I R T D R I N K E R- s/t LP Swearin'- Surfing Strange Hookworms- Pearl Mystic Adam Stafford- Imaginary Walls Collapse Honourable mentions for Joanna Gruesome- Weird Sister, The Shithawks- Meat The Shithawks and The Shouting Matches- Grownass Man. I've also just realised there was a Barn Owl record this year that I seem to have missed. My most listened to EP this year was probably Little Anchors- A Searing Analysis of Pretty Much Everything.
  9. LESS THAN TWO WEEKS AWAY! So, in addition to the first Aberdeen outing for Hey Enemy in quite some time, the possibility that Min Diesel might play THAT song, a welcome return to Laika Come Home for [ ] and an Aberdeen debut for Enemy Airships, who feature ex-members of Pensioner and a Shithawk, we'll also have festive homebaking a-plenty. AND We'll have a Laika Come Home Christmas compilation on sale, with all proceeds going to Friends of Anchor, featuring, amongst many others: Kitchen Cynics, his name is codeine, Godzilla Blues, Little Anchors, Amanti, Star Rover and Carson Wells. ALRIGHT!
  10. It wasn't when I first became vegan, but got certified by the Vegetarian Society a couple of years ago. I don't drink Fosters, last time I checked, some of it is vegan, but it depends where it's produced. Saying that I'm not much of a fan of Tennents either, but it's nice to have options!
  11. It is vegan. Has been for a while. Barnivore is a great resource for checking this as they update every couple of months, with information directly obtained from manufacturers and suppliers. You should have a look. Most whisky is vegan. You just need to watch for some of the sherry-cask aged stuff as the oak might still contain traces of egg.
  12. Well, with the exception of Guinness, they're doing okay...
  13. SOON. Hey Enemy's new record is ace. You can listen to that and their old one too on their bandcamp. http://heyenemy.bandcamp.com/ Full o' riffs. Min Diesel have a track on the first Dirty Beard Monthly comp, alongside Laika veterans Young Philadelphia and Kitchen Cynics and a host of other great acts. http://dirtybeardmonthly.bandcamp.com/album/dirty-beard-monthly-one Well worth a listen. Also, we have EXCITING NEWS. We can't tell you what it is yet though.
  14. Although I do by far prefer the fresh versions, I'd happily eat handfuls of raisins, dried apricots, whatever. Just not in cereal. Why go to the bother of drying fruit out only to rehydrate it? With milk, no less. No.
  15. It's s'omething I can really s'ee my's'elf doing.
  16. All of these are really good. Can't think of any other Aberdeen-based bands but as far as the North East goes, the Little Anchors EP is amazing. The Shithawks record too.
