  1. Dont want to hi jack the thead and turn it into a 'amazing bass player thread' but this stands up as an amazing song itself.
  2. Im probably missing a few memories on account of my arthritis, buuuuuuuuut... The first ever gig you ever attended: Would have been The Ataris and the Barrowlands in 2002(?), literally have no recollection of how good or bad it was, remember all their songs sounding the same - I don't think I really listened to them until after I went to see them. I remember recognising 'Summer Wind...' and enjoying that. The best ever gig you ever attended: It's still quite recent and fresh in my memory so there may be bias, though Devin Townsend at the Garage in February was glorious. Fantastic atmosphere, was just like a big party. Close second would be Acoustic Ladyland at the tunnels. The worst ever gig you ever attended: I'll second HateEvent's comment on the Rob Zombie gig. My friend and I walked out before he played the song I'm most familiar with (Dragula). Guy was just a total rock star. Said something along the lines of 'this stage isn't big enough for me'. Trite, boring, and flashy without the musical backbone to hold it up. The first ever gig you ever played: Would have been my high school band at the Findhorn foundation. Very bizarre experience. I can't remember much of how the playing went, though i do remember coming back in to the hall after being outside and walking through the room full of people towards the stage with all eyes fixed on us. Nobody was talking, just staring. The best ever gig you ever played: I always judge how good a gig was by my performance, and i've never really been happy with how i play, so I'll go with how much fun it was. The first gig I did with Beautiful by Design was at the Gazebo Gathering in Kinross, this big massive family day out. When we showed up there was a dressing room for us with a delicious buffet and cold drinks. It was really sunny and we got to go on the fairground attractions afterwards, with our faces painted. Good wholesome rock and roll. The worst ever gig you ever played: 'Playing' the Faslane protest camp with Dis - Ease Consisted of getting there, crusties coming out of the woods and leaning against the van cos they were mashed up on mad drugs, having 2 generators, one not working and the other missing. We proceeded to sit and wait around whilst the natives spewed 'radical' political opinions and meaningful conversations about the price of buses. they had a bar where you could buy a beer for 3 or a pill for the same price if you were into it. It reached 11 o'clock and nothing was happening so we fucked off.
  3. Frustration with lack of money and people selling things i would like
  4. Agree, everyone said gloves was the best option, though i always felt detached from the sticks - didn't have the patience to see if it could help. The blister plaster/zinc oxide tape worked very well, will be relying on this should i every play unknowingly with larger sticks again. Thanks abdy.
  5. Just listened to Ghost - up there with Terria. I like it lots.
  6. The general feel of the beat and melody is cool, though you could work on the sounds and the dynamic of the instrumentation to make it less monotonous. It also sounded a little dull, more snap (or some generic automated reverb at intervals) on the snare to drive the downbeat would help. Ill be interested to hear how it develops.
  7. Iv not had a game in ages. Anyone keen? shupostekud
  8. Absolutely. Know its not that old, but just came across the Naked and Famous album again today - pun intended; its ace.
  9. Where could i find such a product?
  10. Agreed. I cycle pretty much every day and the callouses on the palm are ballin'. Though its not necessarily my grip that is the issue; playing with sticks I am comfortable with and there is generally no issues, though the bigger sticks gave my hands a right old time. Was just looking for a quick fix as I've gigs and practices heaps this week.
  11. Sounds pretty reasonable, iv used compeed myself - was like wearing an extra layer of skin, so it stands to reason it would work the same on my hand. Theeeeeaaanks!
  12. Played with sticks that were a lot thicker than I'm used to the other day and now my left hand is teeming with blisters, notably a big horrible cracked one at the bottom of of my left index finger. Not playing isn't really an option at the moment; normally I would take a break to let it heal. Can anyone give me some advice on remedies to play through the pain/blister? I've tried fabric plasters, though they just seem to come off. Ta.
  13. Super 8 Was genuinely enjoying it, but towards the end, it felt as though the director just went 'Right that all the main bits covered - the mystery, explosions, love interest, father son conflict resolve and bad guy turn around - send the alien home for whatever reason. And done' Ended up hating it. 3/10
  14. Pleasantly surprised by still life, never really gave them much attention before. I shall chex dat ablum.
  15. Using the excuse that 'ill do it later'. In echo of most of the posts, I have trouble finishing things or ill never be completely satisfied and move onto something else. I'll work on some automation (for example) for an idea that's in my head, have a great time making exactly like it is in my head, then getting frustrated when it doesn't work, abandoning it and starting something else. I perform the mental gymnastics of one day, when i have weeks of nothing to do, finally finishing everything off and having all this glorious material to show as a summation of my abilities of a musician and progressing to a higher level of artistic and creative ability once that has all been done.
  16. Hi all, Maybe a stretch posting on here as I'm based in Dundee, though I may as well use all the avenues at my disposal. Our guitarist has unfortunately departed from our 5 piece covers band and we are now on the search for a experienced, versatile guitarist to fill his place. The band is still in its early stages, but ultimately, we'd like to begin doing gigs within the next six months. We are all experienced musicians, have played in bands for the best part of the last decade, generally a friendly and welcoming bunch. For more info or to please Pm me. Thanks.
