    Slime.

I actually downloaded it the other da...listening again now. The intro promises a lot, too much reverb on the beat that comes in though, in my humble opinion... the vocal works really well with that little sax/trumpet sample...sounds a bit scatter-brained between 3:00 and 4:00, still too much reverb on the drums. It sounds like a different track when the drummachine beats and synth comes in...what is the going on with the recorded vocal towards the end, lol. Interesting stuff but kinda rough around the edges.
  2. Mate, nobody want's you to dissapear. Nobody is being spiteful, fuck I don't even know you, my critiism was solely based on the merit of your recording. I can understand if like your mum said "well done" etc, but frankly, anyone who didn't tell you the truth is doing you a disservice. Don't take it personally. You guys need to improve, it's as simple as that, and the biggest step you can take is being able to accept that this material is rubbish and you need to aim higher.
  3. There is nothing, nothing atall about this which merits anything other than a "well at least you tried". It sounds like band practice at the special school - the "vocalist" just adds icing to the cake, with the pointless downsyndrome-esque howling. The whole thing literally brought a tear to my eye, solely because I was laughing so hard. You guys need to practice, and practice a lot. You need to all sit down and listen to that recording with a subjective ear, play some cd's of bands that have inspired you first, and then play your track, and listen to the difference, in order to get some perspective. Imagine how your recording would sound if it was slipped into the middle of a CD by your favourite artist, and this will give you something to aim for in terms of improving your playing.
  4. note down the specs of your source wave file, e.g 8kHz/8bit/mono, rename file extension to ".raw", and open in photoshop. Edit away, then re-save as a new .raw file, which you can then load into your audio editor as raw pcm data (you will have to tell it the original samplerate etc) and then save as a normal wave file again (editing destroys the file format header) You can listen to the pic at the top of the thread by loading into photoshop and saving as .raw format, then changing the file extension to .wav and playing it in whatever (it hasnt been edited so the .wav header is still there)
  5. Have you tried editing audio in photoshop before? Some of the more subtle filters produce some really strange results that sound like ring modulators, delay, plate reverb etc.
  6. There is a small collection here: http://www.rah.gq.nu/bourbon/breaks1.html these can be chopped up into individual hits using something like Recycle or Wavesurgeon (free/shareware), or by hand in an audio editor like Soundforge, then imported into your sequencer.
  7. I think it's kinda funny actually, I'm wondering how many local "bands" will disappear now that the care in the community venue is gone.
  8. How many of those plugins do you actually use?
  9. What I find with booze, is that I can spend maybe 6 hours during the day working on a track and make a lot of progress with it (sober), then as soon as I have a couple of drinks, the workflow goes out the window, progress stalls and I end up losing focus completely. I like jamming a bit when I've had a few, but I wouldn't say it's productive, just fun.
  10. A lot of people I talk to say that being intoxicated aids their creativity when it comes to writing/producing music. What do you think?
  11. Ok, excerpts from the profile at this url http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/4187007.stm So...you don't think marlyin manson/that kind of music culture has influenced his lifestyle atall? It said he smoked 4.5 Oz of hash a week, that is more than enough to trigger a psychotic episode in an unstable person (as he clearly was). All that goth/angsty/nihilistic subculture is completely tied to the music, it's frankly retarded to suggest that there isn't a connection between the two.

  15. Can anyone suggest how to convert bass tab into just the notes to play, eg: G------------------------------------------ D------------------------------------------ A--------3-3-0-3-3-5--------------------- E-----3-----------------3-3--------------- how could I work out what actual note is being played?
  16. The only realistic way to recover the vocal in pristine condition, is taking the instrumental of the track (it has to be exactly the same recording, just without the vocal), inverting the phase and then mixing it together with the vocal version. Trying to EQ or filter out the instruments will just sound totally ropey. dang you beat me to it spellchecker
