  1. I believe neil said "new users" not "younger members", either way I would like to see what evidence neil bases that assertion on, presumably nobody signs up to a forum in order to NOT post. This begs the question of why there is a sports forum on music website in the first place.
  2. Ahhh but you see, I understand that not EVERYONE who watches sports on tv is a drooling cretinous simpleton, but you get my drift. Statements like that shouldn't need a caveat tagged on at the end because most people understand that generalisations have their uses as an impersonal way of making a point.
  3. No, there is a huge difference between using a generalisation like that to illustrate ones point, and actually calling a specific individual names. Anyway I've already explained this twice in this thread, and you've just proved me right by doing the exact thing I'm complaining about.
  4. tbh if it's a good mix, it might need very little in the way of "mastering", or even none atall in some cases. These days I usually just normalise the render and sometimes use a multiband limiter if neccessary. It's definately easier to do things like that "offline" when you can actually look at the waveform and make more informed judgements about limiting etc anyway.
  5. Actually, I'm talking about posts like this
  6. Go and read this thread again.
  7. Look, I'm a confident and expressive person and I make no apologies for that, and neither should anyone else who sticks up for themselves and what they believe in. I think you'll find that I'm actually at the receiving end of a lot more abuse than what you and some others seem to (wrongly) perceive me as having dished out.
  8. abkhazia is looking distinctly less georgian by the minute aswell.
  9. If there was a thread about eating meat (I am a carnivore) and someone who was passionate about being vegeterian said something along similar lines, i.e people who eat meat are cruel sickos who support abusive farming practices and are a disgrace to humanity etc, most normal people would say, look, I think you're wrong, and here are my reasons why. Most normal people accept that is what discourse involves, especially on the internet where you should fully *expect* to encounter people with differing views. Sadly there are just users on here who apparently cannot tolerate that kind of diversity of opinion without resorting to calling people names and accusing anyone who disagrees with their, or what they perceive as being the popularly held opinion, of being a troll. I mean after all why try to change someones mind or put your own point of view across in a sensible and civil manner that creates an interesting debate when you can just call them an arse.
  10. I suspect the georgians expected nato or at least the US to back them up. Sadly it's pretty clear to everyone that russia is just going to pound them into submission. It's interesting to see how it's being reported by most news agencies in the US, i.e that Russia is the aggressor.

Yeah builders, stewards and "whatnot" who live in the immediate area. Most of the construction work will probably be done by extremely cheap labour hired by contractors who stand to make huge profits. This argument about it generating income like that is completely fallacious.
  12. Ah right, so if someone starts a thread about a topic, and I, amongst others, post my feelings on the topic, and then someone who doesn't like my opinion calls me an arse and tells me to fuck off instead of just making a meaningful counterpoint in a civil manner or choosing not to post, it's not him that's the troll, it's _me_ who's in the wrong? Don't you think that just discourages people from speaking their mind?
  13. It's about time, I've really had enough of the minority of intolerant, abusive users on this site who won't let people put forward a point of view that deviates from their own without resorting to name calling and accusations of trolling.

I think it's appalling that the UK is wasting millions on preparing for the 2012 olympics. I suppose the people in this country living in abject poverty, who can't afford to eat or heat their homes are supposed to feel a flush of patrotic admiration on seeing "that man that ran a bit faster than that other man and he done it in london in that big flashy new stadium!".
  15. you should perhaps add something to the t&c's about respecting diversity of opinion. I've noticed several users who are incredibly intolerant of a difference of opinion and have a habit of disrupting threads by telling people to shut up, calling them names and accusing them of trolling etc if they simply don't like someones point of view. It doesn't really make for an atmosphere condusive to lively debate, and I'm sure puts people off posting.

So anyway, who else thinks the olympics is a huge, pointless waste of money for the host nation and an excuse for the bbc to waste huge sums of license payers money on coverage of what is frankly a meaningless minority interest? Don't you think it is really quite offensive that people here are quite content to sit around drinking pints, eating pies and getting excited about other people having a race etc while completely ignoring the human rights abuses and restrictions on religious and political freedom that china is well known for? Apparently it's fine to let the executions and the political opression slide for a few weeks because afterall, this is a really important race or ping pong game.
  17. I never put any fx on the master bus of the mixer. Usually i have seperate mixer channels for kick/snare/hats/percussion etc, summed to another mixer channel, and the same goes for the basses (sub+mid) if necessary, then other sounds like pads/vocals/stabs etc i usually just send them to their own individual mixer channel and have them coming through on their own. All of these individual channels will have their own insert fx chains as needed to get it a) sounding how i want it to sound and then b) sounding good in the mix. As I said I never put any fx on the master bus, ppl quite often use realtime spectral analysers to make judgements about things like extreme low-end bass which the average near-field monitor won't reproduce accurately, but tbh if you are really familiar with your speakers and know how material in the same genre sounds on those speakers you can make a pretty accurate judgement about such things after a while. Rendering a rough mp3 and giving it a listen in the car, the hifi or your mp3 player can sometimes help point out any glaring problems, but yeah ultimately you have to trust your ears.

The only person trolling here is you, you're just trying to stifle the discussion and calling people names. The OP asked if anyone is looking forward to the olympics, and I'm saying no, I think the olympics is a massive waste of money and resources that is totally unwarranted. This is what most civilised people call a discussion, and most people manage to accomodate a variety of points of view without resorting to pathetic insults.

Probably about the same amount that wouldn't be at large shoplifting, snorting speed, stabbing people and catching syphillis while knocking up their mates 14 year old sister if they hadn't seen it on telly the day before. Joking aside, there is something genuinely quite desperately sad about watching sports on the telly. At least the down and out pissheads who frequent the bookies have the balls to stake something on it.

Wayne Rooney gets ‘just enough education to perform’ tattoo Fametastic funnily enough I first heard about this in a story on the bbc news site about how great tattoos are...

"i watched the telly and a man ran faster than another man it was really exciting and me and my friends cheered a lot it was really good" - no, this wasn't written by a 5 year old primary school child, it was written by a 45 year old plumber called dave in a letter, dictated to and written down by his mother, to his estranged 10 year old kid who is in prison for rape and murder. That's the kind of people who enjoy televised sports.

the olympics is a total waste of money and should be abolished, and all televised sport should be put on some obscure pay-per-view cable channel with porn in the ad-breaks so that the drooling, bloated, 3-fingered cross-eyed pie eating unwashed who want it can be satisfied without clogging up the airwaves and wasting licensepayers money on such completely inconsequential shit.
  23. MySpace.com - Reso - London, UK - Techno / Drum & Bass / Electronica - www.myspace.com/corgrimey play the tune "if you can't beat em" this pretty much illustrates why you don't need naff compression tricks to make a "stomping dancefloor banger", and that even in a tune of this type you need a bit of subtlety in how you approach the mix.
  24. That sort of over the top pumping effects is (in my purely subjective opinion of course) a pretty dated cliche that only really works with that kind of 4 on the floor kickdrum type music anyway. A classic example is this : which is 6 years old or so. Notice that the pumping is really only going on with the tail of the kick and the low end frequencies, not the mids or highs so much, which kind of makes it a bit more bearable than having the whole mix pulse in time with the kick. Erm yeah anyway the point is if you hear that effect in any other context it's usually considered a defect in the mix. I see what you're saying about production in this way, that the mixdown is really important, and it is, but I would say sound design, atmosphere, the actual content of the tune, is far more important. There's no point in having a pristine perfect mixdown of a tune that sounds like it's made with the presets that come free with a synth and the drum sounds that come free with fruityloops, totally dry except maybe a delay or something, and just using over the top compression to give the illusion of dynamics. There is a reason you generally hear music like that (benni benassi) being played in clubs like liquid. Even then though, if you listen to that benni benassi tune, and those mstrkrft tunes, you can hear that care has gone into making the dominant sounds a bit more distinctive and interesting sounding. They sound simplistic, but they really aren't.
