  1. I like the stripped down purity of the Tele, still the original electric guitar, but would love a nice Strat, have to have a maple fingerboard though, I don't like the feel of rosewood as much.
  2. I have never had any driver issues with the 44 or the 1010, we've used it to record 5 tracks at once and everything was sound. But thats not to say there could not be incompatibility issues, but the 44 on my PC is still running in ME, and the 1010 works fine with XP. Without a doubt though I'm sure the EMU range is quality as well, they did pretty much invent sampling, with Fairlight of course.
  3. Not true,having used both the Delta 44 and the 1010, both are high quality, easy to use PCI audio cards, whether you get an audio card or a soundcard depends if you need midi playback on the card (ie GM compatibility). Never used their USB or Firewire devices though, SOS seems to rate them.

  5. Aye from RAAR, yeah, I shared a flat with Erlend back in 94/95, yeah I rate them, and thats RAARE All good dudes as well, Erlend let me use his portastudio when we lived in Rosemount, had a good laugh .
  6. Yes we are going in for it, our demo/ep will be complete by wednesday and, if I may blow our trumpet somewhat, sounds immense. Last mixdowns still ongoing.
  7. All of the above are more amp modellers with FX. I dont know if all of the Distorted settings are integral to the amp models, or if there are independant 'stompbox' effects- as is the case in the VST Amplitube (handt to have for recording) The ME-50 is a stompbox modeller, with 22 different distortion box models, some Boss but also RAT(my fave), Tubescreamer etc plus Modulation & Delay sections, reverb compressor etc. I have used this since late November, for gigs and recording, and find it very easy to get the kind of sounds I like, mainly very cutting high gain sounds from a tele, but with a humbucker fitted guitar more thick scooped chug guitar could easily be got, and the delays are brilliant-tap syncable. Its also a doddle to work. Even creating patches However your budget seems a bit higher than that so try as many out, either with your own guitar, or an identical make if possible. So much of the technology is shit hot these days that its up to the buyer to find what suits them best. I have had quite a lot of use of Roland/Boss products over about 8 years, and have always found them reliable, easy to use, and have a great sound, whether synths or guitar FX, and they have made some of the best gear in their fields since way back when. No I don't work for them, if only.

I've got the Boss ME-50, the one down a price level, and it sounds like the business, the new GT-8 seems to have some very advanced switching options, but so does the POD Live XT, what a perfect excuse to try them all out. I had a Digitech thing (RP-80) for a while, and it definitely sounded sub-standard, and the wah pedal broke and remained permanently open, no danger of that on the Boss, Nails it is.
  9. 'Phantom Menace' was ding, D.I.N.G. fuckin ding MIN. apart for about 20 minutes worth. 'Clones' was alright, which by comparison, even to the Ewok-ridden 'Jedi", OK=DING. So it logically follows that the new one will be great, or else why would he bother. Proper space battles are a good start.'

Just my type of question Art has always been a commodity, in that the idea of the artist creating art for its own sake only really developed in the 19th century, with artists of independant means such as Manet and Gauguin, or those with other jobs such as Henri Rousseau. The art we consider now to be high art was always painted for renumeration of some kind, whether directly through patronage, or indirectly by being created for the contemporary art market. Historically patronage has always come from the rich and powerful, whether individuals or organisations. The single greatest patron in the history of Western art is, of course, the Roman Catholic Church, which from the outset of its establishment has always employed artists to make corporeal its message. The real development has been in the status of the artist, which went from that of an anonymous artisan in medival times, to that of superstar atists such as Leonardo, Titian and the ultimate cultural icon of his time, Michelangelo Buonarotti. But these artists were still subject to the wishes of their patrons, indeed much of what makes them great artists is that they dealt with EXACTLY the same subject matter as their peers, but were able to transcend the numerous constraints of religous narrative, enabling them to present these subjects freshly, and perfectly attuned to the needs of their society. Tracy Emin selling her 'Bed' to Charles Saatchi is not so different to Titian painting works specifically for Alphonso D'Este of Ferrara or Philip II of Spain. (This is particularly true given his role in Margaret Thatcher's election campaigns). As for your question about identity, a Rembrandt is definitely considered to be more valuable than an equivalent C17th 'Remrandtesque' painting, especially as he had pupils, a school at one point, and great influence on Dutch Painting at one point, (his influence waned in his later years, but not his artistic ability), but generally there can be disagreements as to attribution and provenance. The reason for this is there are only a finite number of authentic Rembrandts, and his reputation and popularity is as great now as it has ever been, tastes change, but it seems unlikely that Rembrandt van Rijn will ever be seen as anything other than one of the greatest painters in Western History.   12. Most reviews of the GR-20 say, Yes, when properly set up. Also you can blend the synth tone with the natural guitar tone to capture any subtleties tnat the synth cant. Fat Lead Synth + Ripping lead Tone =? Some sort of 'end of the world' sound hopefully. All hypothetical at the moment anyway, for me at least.

  14. Sounds like an awful lot of 'working' in 'jobs' required, thats dedication, I myself have a minimal work ethic and as a result a minimalist kitlist. Squier Tele, Late 80's in Bilious Mustard, 125 quid 2nd hand in 1992 (R&B in Rosemount) MISSING-Peavey Renown 112, 150 last june in Glasgow Boss ME-50, 210 from R&B PC-750Mhz Duron Logic 5 + many various VSTs M-Audio Delta 44 Ernie Ball Super Slinkys Jim Dunlop Green Tortex. But I want a guitar synth more than anything, maybe the new Roland GR 20 Third Stake in a Roland JP 8000 rarely used MC-303. er thats it.
  15. Our singer Brendan has a penchant for hysterical social comment, my recent favourite is from one of our newest tracks, the 1st bit of the chorus. "(because) You are my favourite Ned I can't understand a fucking word you said" I love that shit.

We took a 30-something seater to play King Tuts last year, which in addition to a healthy number of people living in the weej saw us sell about 5 less tickets than the Glasgow band that ended up on last, Latonic. With about 60 odd in for us it did seem to help the locals to get into it more. We played a beach party at Kinneff last year at 7.30am, absolutely fukd, its a very surreal sight to see about 50 people dancing in front of a small tent, more of a gazebo, with the sun rising over the sea, and loads more people scattered around the beach. My previous band (electrofunksters Optoplan) played the inaugaral Kia-Aura boat party on Loch Lomond- a legendary outing that was. The secret seems to be the messier an event, the more entertaining it is! no surprise there. Oh and a warehouse party in glasgow last summer, I think our non-traditional 'other' events are due to most of us being VERY rooted in club culture, for the last 9, 10 years in my case

Any way we are playing Drummonds this Friday with Little Kicks & Dedalus, as is detailed elsewhere, But for anyone exiled in Capitol City, we are playing at the Teviot Row Union, nr Bristol Sq, on Friday 25th March, Our Saxmeister Bowmans 1st hometown gig,so he will be well up for it, as shall we all. only |2pounds (demn, this frenchman's computer has no pound sign, what). So come along anyone who can/is inclined to.
