  1. London Fields is immense "Hide under the bed, no chance, there's ten years worth of darts magazines under there" perhaps I paraphrase. 'Money' is even better. There should be some sort of Will Self appreciation society, 'Great Apes' is definitely one of the literary high spots of the late 20th century.
  2. It was a bit of a tangent, considering they started with Morbid Tales, they even had a guitar player called Oliver Handbag
  3. Bleeargh, I saw Celtic Frost on their Cold Lake glam tour, still pretty brutal. OOOh,...Heyy
  4. 'Use of Weapons' by a long chalk, probably because the use of the dual timeframe actually succeeded, resulting in a tense yet satisfying conclusion. A great writer if often unable to end his narratives cohesively (cf 'The Business' what sort of fucking ending is that, If I'd bought it I would have been enraged). Quite liked the 'Algebraist', but would prefer another Culture work.
  5. Are they up some steps or something, never stopped the daleks etc etc bad taste corner.
  6. Anything by Neal Stephenson, especially the Baroque Cycle, ...right now 'Day of Creation' JG Ballard, 'Heart of Darkness' Joseph Conrad, and a re-read of 'The Once and Future King' TH White
  7. Yeah Callum, get on it!!! It's not like you can skive around RGU all day anymore! (or evening, when I skived around.
  8. So many questions, so few minutes before I start work. Had a drummer for ages, using midi bass drum triggers soon for authentic destructive kick drum, haven't played the deen in ages, will soon rectify, please vote above link etc cheers, also new stuff at our myspace http://www.myspace.com/akathefox
  9. 'A Very Peculiar Practise'; ace university medical practise based surreal dark comedy, with Peter Davison, an old Scottish bloke, Barbara Flynn(!!!) and top Tory style bloke. Vvv subversive and spot on at predicting the rise of market forces in Education provision, Ballardesque. May 11th 1983 European Cup Winners Cup Final, say no more The Tube Minder Only When I Laugh (just kidding, that was shit) Tripods, did they ever finish that convincingly? Led Zep live in Copenhagen ( was on one new year) I started drinking that decade so some details elude me. What was that one, 'Edge of Darkness', had a nuclear twist in it. Euro Satire 'The Gravy Train' (feat Alexi Sayle) other stuff with Alexi Sayle that drama where people are being smuggled into Western Europe from Poland, but all get killed in a massive cave??? My brain hurts now.
  10. Oh and everyone in my UoA class who went on to do postgrad at RGU thought it sucked, and wore their Arts & Social Sciences faculty scarves, rah rah raj, we're going to smash the oiks, etc. RGU does have a semi-legendary union though.
  11. Theres only one Aberdeen University, and thats the University of Aberdeen, and I've been to both, but only one is my dear Alma Mater, blah rhubarb etc
  12. Well thats maybe a bit strong, but we are the only 'deen connected band in the last 5 so go on, vote http://www.bbc.co.uk/scotland/musicscotland/musicshow/ there. There are videos to watch and everything.
  13. Oh yes, will we get our twentieth of the bomb, do we want it? Depends if we get beat by Costa Rica et al again.
  14. mmmmumble, Motorhead at the Capitol, 1983, just missed the classic line up by a year
  15. I am glad this has been raised, as it is a point I have been pondering upon recently. I still don't know how I would vote on this should a referendum on it come about. On the one hand it would allow us full responsibility for our collective fates, and would finally put an end to whinging about the English controlling our economy etc, and as a bonus would prevent the darkness of another bleak Thatcherite epoch. On the other hand it may encourage a little Scotlander mentality, replete with excess nationalism, attitudes which I despise. Another point, what of the BBC? If I thought that independence meant that we had to lose the BBC, then I would definitely vote against it. It has been, I think, one of the better influences on my life, and one I am not prepared to lose; think about it, name one good programme that has ever come from Irish TV. I would move to England before being parted from it.
  16. Quite tangentially We're in the running for the music show on BBC Scotland, and I think its a vote-tastic thing, so please do, for us, for the deen, for liberte, fraternite, egalite. www.bbc.co.uk/scotland/musicscotland/musicshow PS pies in glasgow are fuckin shite, Thains, Aitkens et al c'mon take on the evil Greggsbasts
  17. Um, sorry, I didn't know anything about this, although someone may have agreed to it when wrecked, then forgot about it, so sorry to Giles, the Tunnels, and y'all in general, we'll make up for it soon, double promise. Anyway I'm in Kefallonia just now, and its ace.
  18. Discuss; Are call centres the new coal mines. I used to work at BT, but decided to spend all day skiving on the internet in 'protest', my favourite site at the time was called btsucks.com.
  19. ...or Britney Fox (note to younger readers I have not made that name up). The thing is I don't care if some random slags off a band I like on the internet, feel free (but you'll be wrong). Funkadelic, Rolling Stones, Le Tigre, DJs Shadow, Krush, Krust, Hype, Zinc, Peter Tosh, Bunny Wailer, The Congos, The Clash,The Allman Brothers Band, Canned Heat, Creedence, Hanoi Rocks, Beastie Boys, Shitdisco, all the stuff that goes without saying (Jimi, Doors, Zep, BMW, Nick Drake, Sly) 70s Heart, The Specials, King Tubby, Lee Perry, Dillinger, Dillinja, and thats just off the top of my head, 'mon then.
  20. *Decides to push point* This is really prime cretin material, about as relevant as the Daily Mail, or Winger, or something. I mean this bunch of cracker redneck fuckin hicks prime source of inspiration haven't been any good for 22 years, what a waste of fine tonewoods and hairspray.
  21. There I've said it, I just had to. the 'Baroque Cycle' is a meisterwerk, easily the best historical-sci fi ever. I will rant further on this soon.
  22. 'Mon the Richard Dawkins. I reject the religious worldview as a sad quest to see meaning where there is none, ie why are we here. We just are and the universe couldn't care less.
  23. Bass solo, human civilisation it say, NO.
