  1. DIRTY HEARTS CLUB :: -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Hey peeps, Two quality bands coming up at the Dirty Hearts Club! KID CANAVERAL Edinburgh based band on the up and up. Kid Canaveral started properly in St Andrews, Fife in late 2003. They are David MacGregor (Voice & Guitar) originally from Glasgow, Kate Lazda (Voice & Guitar) from Reading, Rose McConnachie (Bass & Voice) from Glasgow, and Dan Sheehy (Drums) from Dublin. After a number of open stage nights, the band began to play at proper gigs, their first being an opening slot for King Creosote and the Fence Collective and Joy Zipper in May 2004. In the 18 months since they started playing together, they have released two EPs, both of which sold out, gained national radio airplay on more than one occasion, performed a live acoustic session for Star FM (St Andrews Radio) and have enjoyed gigging around Scotland, recently opening for KT Tunstall and once, even Tiffany... Now located in Edinburgh and St Andrews, Kid Canaveral are building on the energetic and vibrant live performances they are known for and have continued to bring them to a wider audience in Aberdeen, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Dundee, Perth and St Andrews, to some very impressed audiences, with aspirations to go even further afield. They play a mixture of Indiepop and Alternative rock. Let it pass was played on Vic Galloways BBC Radio Scotland show after winning a public vote in the summer of 2004. Tony Hancock won the BBC Radio 1 Session in Scotland demo derby the maximum 3 weeks in a row, the final week with a massive 73% of the public phone vote in November 2005. Live and Demo Reviews "The tunes are great...organic but powerful rock. They're definitely the next level up on the quality scale from the majority of local unsigned bands, and ought to become a live favourite for all those who can't be bothered with the massive impersonal outdoor concerts that are all you'll get from REM and the Pixies these days - Demo Review, Glasswerk.co.uk (Glasgow Site) "Edgy and imaginative guitar hooks, surely destined for beyond the indie disco and pub scene" The Saint "Kid Canaveral is an impressive band... [they have] found authenticity in using Scottish dialectical tones to give the grassroots edge...rounded and unpretentious. ...together, voice and band have a raw appeal uniquely fitting to the music, gritty hard Indie. Kid Canaveral have a lot of potential and ability. Overall: A solid night of charming earnest Indie-Rock!" - Live Review, 13th Note Cafe, Glasswerk.co.uk (Glasgow Site) 'Kid Canaveral are heading for the stars' - The St Andrews Citizen "Edgy, passionate and endearing the guys and gals from St Andrews' indie rock is highly impressive. Faulty leads, broken strings and general bad fortune don't hamper the 4-piece from bashing out a selection of bloody good tunes...'Second Time Around' is unforgettable, while 'Sweet Service' and 'Tony Hancock' are prime examples of front man Dave MacGregor's writing ability. Evocative lyrics, super indie guitars and some striking girl/guy vocal dynamics, 'the Kids really are alright'. - Jock Rock Live Review ------------------------------------------------------------------------- AND SUPPORTING BUT IN NO WAY LESS IMPORTANT... ------------------------------------------------------------------------- FLAMING KATY Early in the summer of 2005, Colonel Barrzo, formerly of Glasgow based power trioManganese, moves to the Granite City. Upon arrival he is inveigled into forming a new band with the artists formerly known as Sons of the Stage.... Aberdeen based band pitched between Jeff Buckley, Neil Young and the band. 6. NME carrying ad this week also the View are reviewed in the Radar section, loads of Radio 1 mentions and Video about to go live on MTV2 in time for the snafu show i think...
  7. dylan moran yeah i kno what you mean frosty (ps saw you coming into the hall but obviously couldnt get up and say hello) hope your good i think the mic thing annoyed him but he was still very funny. 2nd half better than first id say. Encore was bit brief. if you watch his dvd its pretty split between staright out gags in first half and his typical random mad humour in second. Last night was pretty much all mad humour and he made me laugh! Its probably the usual thing of artists and Aberdeen, its like they are kinda treating it like a warm up for somewhere else (i.e - morrissey not long ago). Still, I managed to see one of my favourite comedian / performers, got a good seat and he did an hour and a half which is pretty good and for 15! So im happy. Wasnt feeling so good today though after partying at Snafu afterwards.
  8. 31st August is a double bill with Copy Ha Ho and a support band which as far as i know is Q Without U However, Nick has been sorting out that one so I could be massively wrong (as usual) Im really looking forward to some of the gigs weve got and especially Copy HA Ho.Their new tracks are shit hot.
  9. hey peeps, SPECIAL DHC night on the 22nd, posting now to give you slow-coaches heaps of notice:: ADVANCED TICKETS FROM EARL OF SANDWICH (TBC) Fresh from supporting both PRIMAL SCREAM and BABYSHAMBLES and the stage of Radio 1s big weekend... THE VIEW Modern rock n roll sensation. With an average age of 18 years, they have a surprising amount of great songs, differing styles, ability and class. Spotted after just their second original gig at the Doghouse, Dundee. The View signed up local label Two Thumbs for an EP and have since signed to uber-A&R James Endeacott (from Rough Trade's) new label 1965 records in a significant recording and publishing deal. Having already played support slots with the Proud Mary, Babyshambles, Primal Scream and the Undertones their live reputation just keeps growing. Should you get the chance to see or hear this band at a sell out local show near you, youll taste the hysteria. Work starts on their debut LP in the near future, produced by Owen Morris (Oasis) among others. Hear them on Radio 1 over next weeks on Jo Whiley and Zane Lowe and read their interview in the Fly June Edition (Levis Ones to Watch). There will also be a interview feature in the NME (out next week!). 11. emergenza I think i speak for all the band when i say were not fans in any way of any pay to play setups but we didnt pay a fee to play emergenza (im not sure any band did?).We only managed to sell a handful of tickets but treated it as any other gig and went into it with an open mind. We had a tough night with regards to sound on stage and some technical problems(not attacking jenny in any way as she did great as always x , by this i mean pedal and amplifier problems) which hindered our enjoyment of the gig but although it wasnt our best gig (by far) i think our songs still came across well, the crowd reacted well to us with a good show of hands and we were very surprised but chuffed (as any band would be) to go through to the carling academy final. As far as we were concerned we were kinda fishes outta water (being an indiepop band at the end of a lot of heavier acts) but the positive thing for us was maybe a few people who saw us would be doing so for the first time and maybe like it. Weve never played with any of the other bands on a bill (apart from RHleft) so it was also good for us to see what the other bands are doing and play to a new crowd. All the other bands played well and put on a good show, particularly Right Hand Left who played a great set (and I get more into every time i see them), and we were very surprised to go through.
