  5. dfa1979 gutted about dfa1979, my mate keir probably cried when he heard on friday,he loves em. HOWEVER, dont be too upset mstrkrft are shit hot.Theyre remixing everything at the mo (wolfmother, metric, gossip) and ive preferred their versions of songs to originals by far.Theyre own stuffs good too, try and find easy love.its shit hot. They played snafu a couple of months ago (tuesday 30th may i think) and it was kinda half full because word of mouth hadnt got round for em yet plus id imagine it was a tuesday night issue. Myself and nick from DirtyHeartsClub did a DJ spot before they went on and it was a cracking night, great set and really nice guys too. They just sat drinking with everyone that came in and spoke away about the band and how they liked Scotland. After much alchohol a few if us (including my mate Keir who I thought was going to pass out with excitement at meeting a hero!) educated Jesse Keeler and AP on the merits of Irn Bru and a Bridge Street kebab.Quality night even if the hangover next day was worst ever. Word is Snafu have them coming back so keep an ear out for it. RIP DFA1979

  13. hey peeps this weeks musical delights include... YELLOW BENTINES Emotive, heartfelt pop music a cameo appearance by a cow-bell sprawling, melodic tunes shambolic but always effective a talented group of musicians. Sandy Nelson at the T-Break Finals. one of the freshest things to have reached these shores of late with a tinge of postmodernity the future of Glasgow music will start looking sort of... yellow. Max Malagnino. (Rainsound) A tight outfit, reminiscent of Ben Folds Five particularly worthy of note Eamonn Coyle. (QMU) it's a crap name! However Lovely piano more likeable than Keane Miles O'Toole. (Is This Music?) teeming with enough upbeat appeal as to suggest its brought the sun along in tow edgy and volatile ... impossible to walk away from an ensemble to watch for. Mark. (Losing Today) Fuck the critics! YELLOW BENTINES' energetic and fun-filled performances have built up a huge following locally and on Myspace, having supported bands such as Arctic Monkeys, Editors and Brakes .Their melodic compositions comprise of a strong piano-trumpet framework that draws inspiration from bands such as Ben Folds Five, The Divine Comedy and Cake. Formed in May 2004 the band has evolved to become one of Glasgows premier live acts. PLUS STEVEN MILNE (accoustic) Yes, thats right.ME.At my own night,Its not a vanity thing, its purely a band pulled out last minute thing. 16. hey guys DHC and Snafu are proud to present... Thursday 10th August THE RUMBLESTRIPS "Together, they conjure a timeless rush of sax and trumpet, pounding piano and drums, and sweet melody. The quality of the songs speak for themselves, but in Charlie, the band have a singer with a voice that will become synonymous with hairs raised down the back of many a neck for years to come. And what songs they are. The sound of wide-eyed yearning, life-affirming choruses all awash with the optimism of youth. The superb, entwining musicianship of the unit is complimented by Charlie; wry lyrical observations; at times wistful and romantic, but always packed with colourful imagery and sharp humour. Chosen launchpad for the outfit, Transgressive Records have in the space of just one year established themselves as the hottest label around for launching acclaimed new talent (Battle, The Young Knives, Regina Spektor, Ladyfuzz, Mystery Jets, The Subways, not to mention prior ties via Tim Dellow; former indie start-up Trash Aesthetics, which spawned first releases from The Rakes and Bloc Party). The band have recently signed to Island Records, with an EP out October 2nd The album will follow in early 2007." www.myspace.com/rumblestripsuk Summer dates for Rumble Strips include Reading, Leeds, Love Box and Belladrum Festival. 17. hey guys Two musical delights upcoming at Snafu on the 27th to round off whats been s great month of bands in the club! JULY 27th LUXURY CAR Me (the geek) and little brother John (number 1 son) have been in bands together since we were at school. A long time. Too long. We had been playing in mainly guitar bands since we were about 13 and have been making electronic music as Luxury Car since about 2002. The main aim of the band was to make electronic music based around melodies and songs written on guitar. Louise Healey played bass, trumpet and sang with us from 2002-2005. The name Luxury Car is taken from the Vincent Gallo film "Buffalo '66". If you have seen it you'll know what bit I mean. We play live all the time and have played all over Scotland in places like Twa Tams, King Tuts, Liquid Rooms, Stereo, Mono, 13th Note, Nice 'n' Sleazys, Bongo Club, The Tunnels and all the other places in between. And we have played with some good bands like The Delgados, Zoot Woman, Diefenbach, The Bays, Swimmer One, Reograd, Michael Rattray and hundreds of others. Our debut EP came out last year - it got some very good press and loads of radioplay (Radio1, Radio Scotland, XFM, Beat 106, Radio Magnetic). We also recorded our first session for Vic Galloway's Radio1 show. We then did our first tour with Alamos and Le Reno Amps. And 'The Miracle Year' was used in a national TV, cinema and radio ad for Project Scotland. Our album is finished and is out now. Influences (not just bands we like, bands we think we sound a wee bit like at times)(kinda) Joy Division, Kraftwerk, Low, Pixies, Scott Walker, Talking Heads, Add N to (, Flaming Lips, Cornelius, Aphex Twin, Squarepusher, Karl Bartos, The Knife, Sparks, etc, etc, etc,.............. www.myspace.com/luxurycar and also appearing midway through a tour NEIL MCSWEENEY Hailing from Sheffield, songwriter Neil McSweeney writes, sings and performs all his own material, the very same that makes up his debut album, which was recorded with 'the Gents'; an amorphous group of local musicians who dropped in on the sessions for the record. Live, he appears both solo and with the Gents. The band line-up include members of Sheffield bands Rumpus and Baby Long Legs, Leeds stalwarts Scaramanga Six and ihop, the remix duo responsible for re-working the Long Blondes' single 'Separated by Motorways'. Remember To Smile was released on 15th May. Tracks from the album have been played by Zane Lowe (Radio 1), Phil Jupitus (6 Music), Marc Riley (6 Music) as well as receiving airplay on XFM, Kerrang and several regional stations. Neil will be reappearing at Snafu in September with The Gents, his band. www.neilmcsweeney.com www.myspace.com/neilmcsweeney PLUS DHC DJs Nick and Steven till 2am 3 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 2 awesome acts, INDIE ROCKIN ELECTRO DISCO AFTER all for 3 entry see you thursdays FUTURE HIGHLIGHTS include the following bands very soon in your local favourite place to go on thursdays!: YELLOW BENTINES ATTACK AND DEFEND V FOR VICTORY PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS, RUMBLESTRIPS, DOWN THE TINY STEPS ! 18. hey guys two local treats for your ears this week JULY 20th Short Notice / Mr Missouri Short Notice We have been around for almost a year now and have played a good number of local shows & have mainly been getting a great bunch of tunes together. Musically we have been described as a mix between The Damned, The Stray Cats & AC/DC - no complaints from us! Theyve just completed their first studio recording which is now on Myspace & our webpage. This will be officially released soon! Short Notice take influence from Rock, Punk, Metal, Rockabilly and various types of 50's music. www.myspace.com/shortnoticerock Mr Missouri Mr. Missouri are a new band from Aberdeen, Scotland. Mr. Missouri were brought together through the mutual appreciation of good music and the love of all things intoxicating. Garth (vocals) had been writing songs and Sean (lead guitar) creating bone crunching riffs together for a while before discovering Nick (drums), Andy (rhythm guitar) and Kyle(bass) who all share the same passion for music and musical influences. The Mr Missouri line up changed during the summer so took some time out to polish their work and also create some new songs. They then hit the rehearsal rooms and the scene was set. Although only playing a hand full of gigs so far Mr. Missouri have had very positive feedback and are hoping to build on their experiences throughout the year. www.myspace.com/mrmissouri PLUS DHC DJs Nick and Steven till 2am 3 ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ 2 awesome bands, INDIE ROCKIN ELECTRO DISCO AFTER all for 3 entry see you thursdays FUTURE HIGHLIGHTS include the following bands very soon in your local favourite place to go on thursdays!: YELLOW BENTINES ATTACK AND DEFEND V FOR VICTORY PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS, RUMBLESTRIPS, NEIL McSWEENEY AND THE GENTS LUXURY CAR, DOWN THE TINY STEPS !
