  4. Hey guys musical treats galore this week as we have two cracking bands on for you. Local heroes EDDISON make their DHC debut fresh from recording their album! They are supported by LUXURY CAR. They are a must see for anyone who enjoyed the recent HOT CHIP gig at Moshulu, think along the same lines but with more of a band feel.BOTH BANDS ARE A MUST SEE so come out on this thursday for a while and show some support! 3 entry 10pm DHC DJs to follow till 2am EDDISON Hailing from Aberdeen in Scotland, Eddison form part of a burgeoning scene, finally attracting the industry attention it deserves. Fortified with fresh talents such as The Needles, The Excerpts, Right Hand Left, Edgar Prais, and the Little Kicks, Britain's real North East is finally set to escape the geographical shackles and take its lead from the always innovative glasgow scene, hitherto the main bastion of Scottish talent. Eddison balance the old with the new: an abrasive punk edge with a love for sound experimentation courtesy of the synth generation. The two guitarists identify with the Kurt Cobain school of sound: Keep it simple (Amp - Cable - Distortion Pedal - Cable - Guitar). The resultant sound? A Tele trying to out do a Strat; loud, dirty and occasionally beautifully chaotic. It is the contributions of a rack of keyboards that would make Emerson, Lake and Palmer weep that propels them into the 21st century. Think Blondie arpeggiators mixed with Prodigy sub-bass and you're getting there. Then think distorted solos where guitars traditionally churn out meandering pentatonics. Like the Kaiser Chiefs without the Britpop, Muse without the arrogance and the Killers without the eyeliner. The thing is, Eddison, refusing to conform to fad and fashion have been perfecting this sound for 4 years; it's as if the zeitgeist has finally caught up with them. On October 30th, Eddison released their debut album, Black Above the Trees, on Aberdeen's Fat Hippy Records, an ever-growing indie, which, after an eclectic start, is now concentrating upon a limited release of exciting Scottish newcomers. Black Above the Trees, as apocalyptic in nature as it is in name, is a slice of electro-rock as rich and diverse in melody and innovation as it is in lyrical themes. It is in turns both pessimistically retrospective and defiantly optimistic, revealing chief songwriter Adam Keenan to be an amusing, if sometimes frustrating contradiction, lamenting about the superficialities of modernity, but willingly participating in the pleasures they bring. Thematically, the album certainly is diverse, focussing upon issues such as history and the seduction of nostalgia; upon the role of the unconscious; and perhaps mostly upon the impossible-to-negotiate differences between the two sexes. Eddison are quite sure they are the first band in the history of music to focus upon the latter. Eddison launch the album with a headline show at Aberdeen's Cafe Drummonds and will be touring Scotland throughout November. For more news check out the website at www.eddisonmusic.co.uk LUXURY CAR Me (the geek) and John (number 1 son) have been in bands together since we were at school. When our last band spilt up we decided to make electronic music instead of forming another guitar band. The main aim of the band was to make electronic music based around melodies and songs written on guitar but we got sick of guitars and went electro for a while. We ended up missing the guitars though, so we are back using them on our new songs. Been on the go since 2001 and did our first EP (The Heart of the Matter) in March 2005. Louise Healey played bass and sung with us from 2001-2005. We have recently recruited a couple of new memebers - David 'Stitchy' Coyle (bass/vocals) & Jon Murray (drums). We have done two Radio 1 sessions, played live all over Scotland and had loads of radioplay on Radio1, Radio Scotland, Beat 106, XFM & Radio Magnetic. Our album (Annie's Well) came out on 17th July to great reveiws including 5/5 in ISTHISMUSIC?. We are currently working on our next album and getting the live set sorted as a 4-piece. You can buy our album and EP from all good record stores in the UK, or through our website - www.idriveluxurycars.co.uk ------------------------------------------------- www.dirtyheartsclub.co.uk
  5. exo just to say, im wasnt having a pop at you or any of the exodus DJs! the music you play is always good and were both doing same thing pretty much! We just fancied doing a saturday DHC type thing coz we (me and a few mates) never had anywhere on a saturday where we wanted to go out to and thursdays crowd all kept asking if we would ever do a weekend.its just a once a month but of fun! Exodus music is always good at weekends when you and the other DJ are on.Just recently not had good nights there, my mate got chucked out for the slightest drunken thing, someone random started on me and a mate another time, folk always run into you and throw pints over you and also theres always crazy ques and then getting turned away when you reach the front!although its ace when busy, sometimes its too nuts! although is suppose the best thing of exodus is the fact you can go and have total carnage along with good music and it always rammed so you can have a dance! maybe im being grumpy or maybe its coz im not a student anymore and (im seriously jealous of those who are)!!! i used to LOVE exodus and spent every friday and saturday there!!! probably just a bad run of nights for me there but not no offence meant to your night or DJing, its always rammed and probably busiest club in town on a saturday night so i hope it continues that way for you guys! x

  12. http://www.myspace.com/theromancemusic Gig Review..... Georgian Theatre.... "A Teesside band with a new big lable singles deal have proved that they can support the very best, and on Saturday they headlined in their own right....... The first time i saw The Romance was as support to the Arctic Monkeys at a packed gig at Middlesbrough Arena. Before the show i chatted with singer Matt Chipchase about life after his old band and he told me that the Arena was crawling with A&R men all trying to tempt the Arctic Monkeys into signing. Everything was set for the underground band to go over ground in a big way, but against all odds, the new act from Teesside put on a performance to rival Sheffield's Arctic Monkeys. A Year on, The Romance made a triumphant return to Teesside. It was a big Saturday night at a totally sold out Georgian Theatre and here's the big link - the last time i recall an atmosphere like that at the venue was when Arctic Monkeys played here last June. It's chirpy pop till you drop from The Romance. Every guitar hook is catchy. every chorus driven by irresistible stompy drumming. The songs are irresistable - no wonder they've landed a singles deal, there's a set full of songs here crying out for full on Radio One Treatment. I recognised This Town from the Pocketwatch EP, with its rousing three lined whip whooping harmonising; I also caught The Boy from their November Demo with brilliant scattergun vocals. The Lads look like proto pop stars - hats, shades, sleevless shirts. All uplifting stuff and only a matter of time before teesside as a genuine chart band." Stockton after dark isnt always the most comfortable place to be explains The Romances singer-guitarist Matt. Its a rough place, but were trying to prove theres still room for people to think for themselves and be a bit effeminate if they want to be. Plus, were a gang so no one puts one over on us! Such is the spirit of The Romance, their breathless art-pop has already seen them play to two thousand people at a Middlesbrough Music Live event, earn rave notices from gigging partners Arctic Monkeys and Babyshambles and get flustered London A&R men reaching for the road atlas. Not bad for four raffish scoundrels from Teeside barely out of their teens. Formed barely a year ago from the ashes of innumerable local bands, the line up (Matt (guitars/vocals), Danny (guitar), Adam (bass) Sean(drums)) have already got a tidy 150 gigs under their belt. thursday - 10.30pm - snafu

  14. what time do we are scirntists finish? ive been offered a ticket but i have open mic at 10.45pm!!!!
  15. fri i thought he played really well and i really enjoyed set. Music wise that is, I didnt like his banter. It got better when he picked up that takamine, man what a guitar!erm, sorry. Im a really big listener of his stuff and I have to admit I spent the first half of the evening undecided whether he was a cock or not. Met him and Son of Dave in soundcheck and whereas Son of Dave just seemed a bit odd, Ed Harcourt just seemed tired and kinda sat and did most of the talking, as in I couldnt really get a word in.Mostly about himself, but then I did ask questions to break the ice, i.e - how the tour was going etc so... Him and Son of Dave didnt seem to know each other and I think it was obvious they were kinda lumped in together at the last minute. They kinda seemed uncomfortable around each other for a while then it went fine but im not sure either were sure of what was going on. Anyway, I was still deciding my opinion when he made the big shut up speech and it kinda confirmed my fears of cockness. Fair enough what he said, it was the kinda condescending delivery that was off.Still, it was good entertainment.I love it when that sort of stuff happens. In his defence. He came up to me after and spoke for ages and said he just wanted to do a good show and only had an hr to choose a set from 4 albums and the curfew had stressed him out and he thanked me for saving him with the accoustic and got me a beer. So he went back up in my estimation for that.Im easily bought. I dont know, him and Son of Dave are pretty dissimilar music styles and if I travelled 200 miles to play and the venue got a bit fucked up, my set cut and people started talking loud I d probably get annoyed too. Its no-one's (definitely not Tunnels / Jamesys) fault but Ed Harcourts own though because at end of day, hes a professional or meant to be.Hes had 4 albums and surely gigged heaps.Even I know the trick if people talk over you is to try even harder to win them over.Doesnt always work but then no-ones ever paid 14 to see me play!Maybe if I charge more people would listen, nah, wishful thinking. On a more positive and light hearted note, Son of Dave was excellent. And my friend drank with im all night, got absolutely shitfaced with him (SOD was aparently starting to struggle) and he left. At one point, my mate almost had SOD coming back to mine for a party apparently he was keen! Can you imagine that!A Delta Blues / Beatbox / Harmonica fest in your living room!

Won the Lee Jeans Scottish heat for the best unsigned bands in the UK. You may have seen us when we supported the Editors, The Mystery Jets, The Research, The Kooks, Hal, Dogs, Thee Unstrung, Yeti, The Envelopes,Tom Hingley,The Rakes, The Duels, White Rose Movement, New Rhodes, Morning Runner, The Research, The Lodger, Sunshine Underground. Its our video launch party which was recently made and can be viewed here on myspace: EP3 in Fopp and One Up now!!!! www.myspace.com/thelittlekicks ------------------------------------------------------ FUTURO Formed on New Years Day 2006, Futuro are still quite young in the grand scheme of things. 9 months (to date) isnt that long really. However, the band, Jon (Guitars/Vocals), Omar (Drums) and Graeme (Bass/Backing Vox) have really been together a lot longer. With Jon and Graeme being brothers, and knowing Omar since they were about 6 years old, the relationship between the band members is almost symbiotic. After several years of tinkering in various bands and projects together, they finally settled on Futuro. A mix of razor sharp anglular guitar, thumping dance-able drums, and silky smooth bass lines combine at a rather fast tempo to give the listener a glimpse as to what the offspring of The Rakes, Interpol and Rage Against The Machine might sound like. Already, the band have toured the UK considerably, gained national radio and press, supported the likes of The Fratellis, The Rakes and The Fallout Trust, played T in the Park, and released 2 sold out EPs. Not bad. Not bad at all in fact, considering the band handle every aspect of it all themselves too. From the recording, mixing and mastering, the video making, web and print designing, street team co-ordinating, managing, tour booking, radio plugging and pr-ing - its a self contained unit, and one that is ready to, and already beginning to, take the UK by storm. With critical acclaim for the releases and the live shows, the band have impressed critics and fans alike. What happens in the next 9 months is anyones guess, but if things continue the way they have been going, expect to see a lot more of Futuro Press exciting; a blast of sheer energy - Sunday Mail the most fresh-faced, intelligent and addictive EP heard so far this year - The Skinny theyre taking the DIY approach, but probably wont have to for much longer - Metro irresistible; Futuro are a frantic band with a Pythagoras bag of angles - T-Break one of the best debut releases heard this year - Lick Online does what it says on the tin to fine effect - The List http://wearefuturo.com --------------------------------------------------------------------- THE RUSHES http://www.therushes.co.uk/index.htm We are a young Edinburgh band who love each other and love the emotional, energetic music we play. Inspired by our city, inspired our nights, inspired by the noise. We have our song 'Hours' out on a I Fly Spitfires split 7" with some other lovely bands (see below). We love to play live and we love to dance. We are currently looking for people to help us on the road with tours/press/agents etc.... love you.x I Fly Spitfire second 7" single release is available now and features all this: V-2 Schneider - Never Stop Drive-by Argument - Left, Left, Walk Forward Get on the Dragon The Rushes - Hours Copy Haho - Bookshelf ------------------------------------------------------------- see you thursdays NEXT WEEK : THE ROMANCE

  18. i may have confused things dont listen to me im probably wrong
  19. im playing accoustic at this too! i cant wait. When i was starting to do home demos and record songs Ed Harcourt was someone i was really influenced by.The fact he played everything and wrote it all on his album always impressed me.Plus he has the totally great pop songs which are sweet then can follow it up with a tom waitsy noise a second later. Didnt realise that son of dave and Ed Harcourt was the same gig or at Moshulu? I thought ed harcourt was at tunnels. Good to play with Garcias again.
  20. nice sounds good ill be playing a fiddle and dancing while DJing and scratching with my elbow in a futile attempt to distract from your party banging set in a battle stylee!just kidding, but only about the fiddle part. see you at the gig
  21. hey peeps this week and for the second week in a row, the DHC in association with Wax have something a little bit different for you to enjoy on thursday at snafu! PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS Los Angeles residents Michael Turner (Double K) and Christopher Portugal (Thes One) came together as People Under The Stairs in the mid-1990s , through a common love of record digging, making beats and the classic hip hop sound of The Beatnuts and Freestyle Fellowship. Thes One and Double K worked together making music and soon had a completed debut in the shape of 'The Next Step'. Released in 1998 the album was an unexpected success, especially in the UK, securing the duo a record deal and several overseas tours. After performing across the globe, Thes One and Double K returned to the studio and came out with another classic 'Question in the Form of an Answer' in 2000. By this time their jazz, funk, rock and soul inspired albums, infamous vinyl collections and energetic live shows had gained them acclaim all over the world, from America and Europe to Australia and Japan. In 2002 they released O.S.T. - confirming their position as masters of the art in the hip hop scene. An EP '...Or Stay Tuned' quickly followed the year after. Four years since their last full-length release, People Under The Stairs returned with another breath of fresh air in full drum-banging, chorus-shouting, feel-good musical form with their long awaited album 'Stepfather'.Which was Released in April 2006.
