  1. Practice Places Spot on mate. Thanks a lot.
  2. Practice Places Anyone? Just thought Id ask.... Are any bands looking for a band to share a practice place with or If anyone knows of a lock-up/ garage/ basement/ place we can hire on a monthly rate to practice in could they get in touch. We recently lost our own warehouse which until a month ago was perfect and entirely our own. We need a place asap and are prepared to pay a rent on it monthly. We need to use it about three times a week and are looking for one ASAP. Theres nothing wrong with Toms etc its just were all poor students and its a better setup having your own place as well as chepaer in the long run. If anyone does know of anywhere or if not, where should I look. PM me or Email me at: theband@thelittlekicks.co.uk Any help or suggestions are much appreciated. Steven
  3. Indie bands As far as Im aware, theres quite a few bands in Aberdeen who arent punk or metal. It depends on what is understood by indie. There are a lot of crap Stone Roses/ Oasis tribute "indie" bands (actually just shite bands) but there are some really good indie/rock bands as well who are worth seeing.Like the Cuts. AKA the Fox, Eric Euan etc I dont think its good to put bands into groups or genres but sometimes its inevitable. I dont think of my band as being from any particular genre because we have a lot of different sounds of song in our set and the songs are influenced by everything from pop and punk to old rock n roll etc. However, by other peoples definition we are probably an indie/rock band. I think the guys post is misunderstood, sounds to me like he was just making an enquiry as to what bands in aberdeen were doing something that wasnt related to the music he outlined. There are a lot of punk/metal bands in aberdeen and to the casual observer it may seem like they dominate but I know otherwise because Im in Drakes and Drummonds every week. However, we definitely arent a punk/ metal/ emo band so if thats what he was looking for heres our website c/w a sample are of our tunes : www.thelittlekicks.co.uk -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- BLATANT PLUG ALERT THE LITTLE KICKS - LIVE - DECEMBER 4th - DRUMMONDS Supporrting The Casuals - 9pm Open Mic with Steven Milne - Every Second Tueday - DR DRAKES - Free Entry --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  4. Pete Docherty You can understand people being angry at being given a no-show.Not to say there is an excuse for rioting and as someone said, it was in no way the Lemon Tree/ Lemon Tree Staffs fault, they shouldnt be getting the shit kicked out of them just for doing their job. From what I heard it was the polices handling of the crowd which incited more rioting, however, this could run and run.... Thing is, people bought tickets for that show for two reasons. Some people are genuine Libertines/ Docherty/ Babyshambles fans who wanted to see an artist they enjoy perform. The other group who bought tickets, went because theyd seen his picture in "The Sun"etc and wanted to see if he would turn up. They wanted a bit of chaos to happen and were probably expecting a no-show. Neither group of people could honestly say that they were 100% shocked and surprised that he didnt play. Dissapointed yes but they knew the situation before they bought a ticket. Had the band played a sub-standard 20/30 min set would the crowd have rioted anyway?Quite possibly because no-one likes being taken the piss out of. I know several people who went and having seen the reaction on this board, it seens that people have had enough. He is clearly in no state to play well (if at all) and shouldnt be in a touring situation. I liked the Libertines albums and appreciate Pete Docherty had a songwriting talent which has plenty of unseen potential. However, its not really about the music anymore, its more like a soap opera. Its a shame that like many others he could lose any talent he had to something like smack but he has to want to get better to really play a decent set. People are losing patience, interest and respect for him fast (judging by the songs his own fans were singing at the tour bus). He is someone who needs serious help and he clearly doesnt seem to be getting from being on the road. He should think about getting better rather than playing and stop wasting venues, promoters, fans and his own time.

  8. Hello to all of you, Were playing Drakes next week (Thursday 10th) should be a good nite, the line up is as follows: The Aphrodisiacs Eric Euan The Little Kicks FREE ENTRY! I know that all the GoNorth stuff is on but its free entry and a good line up so hopefully some of you can be convinced to attend. The Aphrodisiacs are an Edinburgh based band, Ill post some more info tomorrow or later today but they sound really interesting. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Cheers to anyone who came down last week to our E.P Launch at Drummonds. It was a good nite and we sold a lot of C.Ds. Would have been a bit better if half the band and crowd werent dying with that superbug but we got through it somehow. Think we had just over 200 through the door over the course of the night. If anyone did buy a C.D any feedback is much appreciated. The E.P is still available for sale - 6 tracks for 5 To get a copy come down next Thursday or go to our website: www.thelittlekicks.co.uk or PM me through this site Im also playing Belmont Cinema accoustic tonight at 9.30pm if anyone is at a loose end and Ill have copies on me tonight if anyone fancies purchasing a C.D. Cheers
  9. Im sure we can combine our resources to get you a beverage Keithy boy leaving you with a nice shiny C.D copy of our E.P AND a cold pint of ale. Im not sure if theres anything better than that, sounds like heaven! Not sure of the Bluetones thing but maybe, havent really listened to them a lot before. Then again I remember "Slight Return" being good as well as a couple of others. Maybe we do, not sure, always getting told we sound like something and its always something that Ive never really listened to! For example, a guy at MEFM said we sounded like The Flaming Lips crossed with The Strokes crossed with some bizarre 80s band whose name escapes me. One promoter described us as "disco-punk music" which puzzled me and pleased me equally to some extent just because it was so random and probably wrong to be honest! You guys playing again soon?
  10. Cool.Didnt realise that that song was available. Glad people liked it and cheers for the feedback. Its not what we sound like all the time, its just one song in our set that is deliberately quite poppy. Its meant to have a kind of Kinks/Beatles edge to it and be like a short and sweet litttle ditty. I can see how people would say it sounds a wee bit Thrills like tho. The thing is the song was written nearly a year and a half ago.It was always played accoustic. We were just getting ready to do gigs as a band when the Thrills camed out and I remember thinking fucks sake coz we had this tune and they had a really similar sound. Weve got our E.P Launch on the 25th May at Cafe Drummonds (Tue). If you like the above song you can should come down and purchase a copy. The E.P has 6tracks on it (all recorded at Exile) and will be either 4 or 5 with a badge (tbc). Should be a good nite, door tax is 2 and the line up so far is as follows: John Murray (8.30pm) - Solo Accousticness The Craze (9.15pm) - Harmony Accousticness The Shakes (10pm) - Really good Rock n Roll music The Little Kicks (10.50pm) After gig gathering at Estaminet Upstairs - 12am to 2am Were playing an hour set with all the songs from our E.P as well as some new stuff and hopefully convince a few folk to part with their hard earned green paper. It would be good to sew a few aberdeen-music.com punters there and put a face to some of the names and avatars kicking about! Marks recording of us came out really good, Ive been trying to get The Cuts ones to work as well as the others but Im at Uni and computers wont let me!!!! Will try again later and see what happens!!
  11. I second that. Really enjoyed last nite. Seemed like everyone was having a good time of it. Enjoyed all the acts and saw many that Ive been meaning to see for ages! Just as well we went on when we did, the alchohol was flowing a little too freely among our band members. Any later and bad things could have happened. Mind you we had been there from bout 6pm so it was to be expected. Hope everyone who saw us enjoyed our set and would watch us again. Cant view pics either but will try again later also. Im heading back to Drakes at 7pm 2nite to pick up all our gear, Im not sure theyll let me in after last nights debauchery. Anyone else in drakes drink the Lowenbrau beer last nite? 5.2% at 1.70! Im surprised and glad to be alive this morning. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- the little kicks - live MAY Saturday 8th May - Lemon Tree - 3.25 Tuesday 25th May - E.P Launch - Drummonds - 2 6 track E.P - tbc -
