  1. northsound show To be honest, i think the show can only be a good thing and we enjoyed taking part on Sunday. Going on Northsound1 or 2 means a band can gain a bit of extra exposure locally and why not!Id like to let as many people as possible hear us! We have a upcoming lemon tree gig and a new ep to promote plus we had the show taped and itll be a good thing to have for promo use as I think the songs went well ( despite us being very hungover and nervous at going out live)!.Its definitely worth doing and at the end of the day, its a bit of fun! Why take everything so seriously, yes its quite an indie show and no there wont be any Aphex Twin B-Side Remix tracks played but why not go on have a chat, play some songs and have a bit of fun!Its already worth it for us judging by two members of this site who hadnt heard us now saying theyll check us out plus the website being mentioned heaps means our mailing list is up! Its hard for me to say how the show could improve as I was in there and couldnt hear it as a punter but there are probably improvements to be made but like someone said, give him a break, its only his second show! Alan is a genuinely sound guy. I met him a year ago when we were on Northsound 2 for a interview. He was a sound engineer but he said he was pushing them for a show like what hes got now so good on him! I think his shows local coverage as well as Ians gig guide will definitely benefit Aberdeen's ever improving band scene. Bands should put their demos in to him as he will play them! Steven

  9. Hey dudes We are in the midst of putting a wee mini tour together at the end of August. We have London and Newcastle dates booked and are filling in the blanks as I type. HOWEVER, transport and cost of petrol are becoming an issue (as expected) as it is something we havent done before, just seeking advice! Firstly, does anyone have any recommended places for vehicle hire in the local area? Secondly, anyone willing to rent us a minibus? Ive done a bit of research on the net and prices seem ok but thought Id ask around these parts as Im sure some of you may know a thing or two about this! We require a vehicle (most likely minibus or splitter van) to transport 6 people (Band/ SoundIan/ Driver) plus gear(guitars/keys/2amps - no drums) for definitely 4/5 day period) between evening of 26th until our return on Tuesday 30th August. Any help would be much appreciated PM me if you can help or email me at address below: stevenmilne82@hotmail.com www.thelittlekicks.co.uk

  14. I appreciate what you mean about the accoustic thing and didnt think it was negative. Im glad you have no plans to beat me up. As for the scratching of the head, I became aware of that myself halfway through. Think it came about from having my hair cut that morning/ nervous twitch as well as trying to remember first lines and chords to songs! Memory loss is a terrible thing and worrying at 22!
  15. dominos Me too. Dont worry, you can win your money back easy. You could beat me at everything else. We could vary the pre gig games if you'd prefer? Kareoke? Cards? Twister? Maybe even a Dance or Drum-off? I would lose at all of the above.
  16. gun club I disagree hugely about the lyrical and musical content of my stuff but I appreciate you are entitled to an opinion as much as I have to defend myself. So fair enough. Sorry to hear that my stuff wasnt your thing but to be fair Alan Cynic (who was and always is great) also played three covers in his set - to a large audience. Donovan, Richard Thompson and Tanakh. Im not for a second attacking him in any way, just making a point. I also only played three covers. The Velvet Underground, Interpol and The Smiths. The reason behind me playing them was due to many things. Firstly, its a good way to get people to actually LISTEN to your own stuff. Most audiences talk over your own stuff but from playing accoustic for the last two years to some tough crowds Ive noticed that if you play a cover in between original songs people in a crowd tend to pay more attention to you.The bands I was covering are the sort of bands that not only I like but also the kind which the people who got to Gun Club want to hear. I dont really like playing covers (in fact I fucking hate it) but I thought my choice kept me happy as they were songs I liked and they all went down well and werent exactly obvious cover choices. The Velvets song wasnt in my setlist, I ws nervous and can play that song inside out so did it to settle my nerves. Interpol was a request from a friend who had seen me before and The Smiths is just an ace song which I like to play as a set closer. Sorry to hear you were dissapointed but I felt that the night was a good one .I stand by my set. My set went down well with the majority and often people were clapping at the front before Id even finished a song.In fact at one point someone was dancing and clapping in time to my own song and seemed to know the words which was strange! I got a great slot that night and am thankful for the boys for putting me on. I had over 30 requests for C.Ds or contact details for future gigs and Malcolm Middletons drummer and bassist (who run Chemikal Underground) want a copy of both the bands and my own ep. Again sorry you didnt enjoy my stuff. Thanks for saying I could sing tho.
  17. Im pleased to be the 1 TBC. Well looking forward to this gig. I think Alan Cynic is a genius so looking forward to seeing him again. Malcolm Middletons stuff was played on Vic's Show and it sounded really good. Gutted that its the same night as S&D at lemon tree but hopefully there'll still be a good crowd in. Ill be launching a wee E.P of my own on the night and playing a half piano (well keyboard)/ half accoustic set. Hopefully see a few of you folks down there.
  18. "the leg thing" Only he could explain himself.....I think I anticipated his headbutt move and thus jumped to perform a Daniel-Son style karate attack (these kind of things are always possible at 4am)! Unless I made a mistake and it wasnt James at all. Maybe it was a lookalike and I got confused.Yeah, thats it, all the attributes of Jim but on a smaller version! Maybe it was the Austin Powers mini-me guy and he's not a fan of being quoted lines of Staccato Set lyrics by randoms in pie shops! "the steak pie thing" Definitely no innuendo intended.I cant stress that enough.A;so, far as I know, no-one ever shares their pie at 4am! Alchohol has taken over along with hunger by that time. (Im actually quite scared of Jim so Id like to stress absolutely no attempt to upset, mock or offend him in any way in these postings) I think Frosty is twisting my words as a way to instigate scandal.Suggesting some kind of sick twist to a clearly harmless and made up story!
  19. definition of folk Sorry Ross. I meant people of course. Nothing wrong at all with a good pipe and beard of course.Although Ive never grown (couldnt manage) a beard and probably couldnt pull off a pipe! As for Mr Jim/Twoback Joe he knows exactly the kind of snobbery I meant, one time,on a dark Tuesday night, around 4am, we exchanged rather harsh words at a local established bakery outlet, and he headbutted me violently in the upper leg! Jeez, just because I said I wasnt in love with the chorus! One T Break win and it all goes to the head! Last time I share my steak pie with you sir. (joking aside, meant to say well done for T-Break win, will try to attend your set )
  20. aberdeen Its damn good to see a positive thread on here! I think Aberdeen has a great scene of people all working hard to promote good nights. Theres a good variation of music on every night and recently it seems like theres always a gig worth going to which is great. Not so good for the bank balance but as someone said its often only 3 or even free to get in to see good people play. One good thing ive noticed change hugely for me in last wee while is more bands and other people from different styles or interests working together. People seem to be more supportive of each other rather than slagging each other off theyre helping each other out. Genre or music style doesnt seem to matter so much. When I was in my first band if you werent well known or part of a certain crowd it all kinda felt a bit kleeky and like you werent allowed in.Maybe it was just paranoia but theres nothing worse than ye olde musical snobbery. Now,its so much better. I know people who play in heavier bands who'll come up and say they appreciate our stuff even though they wouldnt normally listen to it. Conversely Ive seen bands (who are not normally my thing) and been unexpectedly impressed because they do their style so well and I can see why it'd be popular. Before people were a bit quick to just dismiss folk into categories and that was that. Maybe this opinion isnt shared by everyone but in my experience.... Or maybe everyones just drunk or had too much weed so theyre being nice. Either way, its annoying when folk are downbeat about Aberdeen when theres promoters/ bands who work damn hard to put on good gigs/get crowds out all the time and go out of their way to put varied acts on! Its if these sort of people stopped trying that there would be something for folk to moan about!
