I agree with most of that list actually but as The Disco says it's a laugh really.

Elvis was a great singer but this number One's thing means nothing for a few reasons: - The singles chart is now more meaningless than ever - There have been over a hundred of Elvis singles released over the years so proportionally he's bound to have a high number of noumber 1s - The record company is the only winner, as ever, with their deceased artists catalogue. - New talent takes a back seat again for a reissue.

Of course Lennon could be a wanker but he had talent to back it up. That'll be the first and last time they are mentioned alongside Delays I hope... Never rated them and the fact they threw wobblers in their early interviews (not sure now...) when called "The Delays" instead of "Delays" just put me off even thinking about them

A bit off track but one guy to look out for Damien Dempsey, very intense, charismatic Irish singer songwriter with a reggae tinge to his work. Played the Lemon Tree learlier this year and supported Dylan and Morrissey. Also have you heard Jellyfish? Bellybutton their first album was magnificent pop but then they followed it up with a rather lush Beach Boys ish album, which I wasn't quite as keen on although still worthy effort, before imploding.

You can't diss an artist for influencing "lesser" talents, anyway Dylan had a much wider impact than just singer songwriters. Most bands approach to lyrics changed as a result of Dylan btw I really dislike that Melua bird, her voice grates

It is opinion but I'm staggered with your comment. If you listen to any of those bands in the same way (single after single) I'm sure you'd find many a duff / lame track whereas The Beatles are quality right through and damned diverse too. But if you don't dig them... I listened to one of recent Who compilations and there's a lot of fair to middling stuff and the production seems to go from brilliant to rubbish even with the same producer. Further down the food chanin, The Small Faces are another band with a patchy track record. Some great singles but very average most of the time.

Nice one LOL I prefer the 70's Floyd stuff and I suppose their most popular stuff is then and that's why they are in that grouping.

Denied ... rambling schoolboy tosh ...and I must say the Velvet Underground are equally over rated. By the way Flossie, Pink Floyd were in the 70s Hall Of Fame program

The Doors are one of the most over rated bands ever and Morrison was a nasty little runt with an overinflated ego and a fair to middling vocal. They have a couple of good tunes but the rest are well dated and dreary.

Ba ha ha The Stones were always in the wake of the Beatles...christ they even had to get them to write their first real hit and then show them how to write their own songs. As for the bad boys The Stones just acted the part...it was a PR ploy by ex NEMS employee Loog Oldham. It is a hard pick as all the artists had a real impact on what we have today. I'd go for Dylan or Aretha

I've always loved Be Good To Yourself absolute stomper written by and featuring Andy Fraser

I've seen her once about a year ago and thought she was good but nothing special. One thing that did really impress was the way she went round the audience afterwards chatting to them - nice touch. One of my mates saw her in Glasgow a few years ago and says she's far better just with an acousitc guitar.
