  1. They were rubbish when I saw 'em live.....
  2. Such as? Mots of his arguments are ill founded and poorly constructed. Besides his dilsike of Avenged Sevenfold, that is....
  3. So, he has a rant about the guy not liking Metallica and Sabbath, and turns it into his own little hissy-fit about the use of the term "hardcore". Its an evolving genre, but like the missapropriated term "emo", is beginning to have more to do with haircuts and labels than music. There are hardcore bands about who do the do as well, if not better, than Agnostic Front and Madball (although SOIA still kick the shit outta most bands), and there are bands like Converge who are pushing its envelope. But there are blurry lines also - Isis and even the Icarus Line could be considered "hardcore", depending on your definition. In my opinion (and probably that of the guy from Atreyu!), Atreyu are a metal band, just like Darkest Hour are metal, Bleeding Through are metal, and umpteen other bands on so-called "hardcore" labels like Victory, and as far as I'm aware, none of them are ashamed, nor hide that fact. To claim a "new genre" is required to put these bands in, just makes the has-been MTV VJ (and why the CRAP do I have to have ANY respect for this guy anyway?) seem out of date and out of touch. You're shit strirring mofo, Lucifer. Just how "hardcore" are RL anyhoo? Hmm......
  4. Must get American Nightmare tee..... Last one I went for, I dropped out at 50..... Most ridiculous ebay purchase? Wildhearts "Caffeine Bomb" mug - 35. Not even been used yet....
  5. Are people REALLY excited about Megadeth still? Yeah, I love "Countdown..." and previous, and even dig a few of the later tunes, but the last album was stale, and "Kick The Chair" was more of the same. Quit while you're ahead, Mustaine....
  6. "Roots" still gets popped on every now and then, and Chaos AD is THE album that defines my teenage metal years.....
  7. I re-listened to the Walls Of Jericho album - still not impressed, although on re-listening I decided it wasn't that I didn't like it, just that it sounds pretty average to me, so why bother......
  8. Give Up The Ghost were awesome. Not particularaly trendy, but completely ace, their passing is mourned by me at least. And why is the word "hardcore" in inverted commas? GUTG were balls to the wall hardcore all the way.....punk....
  9. Stripey - what ARE you talking about? All you are showing is just how closed minded and stuck in your ways YOU are. Listen to Godflesh and see how metal music has been innovating and utilising beats for over ten YEARS. Check out The Rise, Sex Positions et al to hear a techno influence changing the shape of Hardcore. Yes, drum and base and hip hop are certainly interesting, but they belong exclusively to "our generation" about as much as metal, so long have they been on the go! There are always new ways and means of looking at and playing music, and as technology is a part of that, but to brand a whole segment of music irrelevant, purely based on the tools used to make it, is absurd. Well done on being one of the most closed minded people on Aberdeen-Music.com...
  10. "We're Down..." certainly isn't as great as "Background Music", but still better than 99% of the stuff out there nowadays. Thank fuck for The Hope Conspiracy..... "Year One" is pretty damn good too...
  11. So they finally split, cancelling european tour and all. Bollocks. One of the best hardcore bands around, gone. If you haven't heard them, and like your hardcore old-school, check out "Background Music", or "We're Down Till We're Underground" for some of the best stuff about...a sad day indeed....
  12. No. Wild horses couldn't drag me to this gig.....
  13. Eh? They were AWFUL supporting the Wildhearts! The rest of the tour got The Darkness, and we got that bunch of plodders! Good riddance. Take the B Movie Heroes with you.....
  14. Broken Oath - First time I've seen 'em, and WOW! Awesome, terrifying and utterly brutal. How does someone so little produce so much noise? And musically, the songs are ace. Someone should sign 'em now..... Zillah - I don't like them, but thats just my opinion. Proficient, but its all been done before and better. Burnt By The Sun are kings of this kinda thing at the mo', so Zillah bored me a bit... Eratta (sp?) - Rubbish. Really dull, uninspired metal. Why bother? Madman Is Absolute - Liked 'em lots. Bit sloppy, but first gig in a long while so I'll forgive 'em. The new stuff sounds awesome, and its good to see a Scottish band getting some recognition - now signed to Century Media! Crazy hardcore.... Stampin' Ground - Best band of the night! Tight as hell and twice as heavy! Great frontman, great songs, tiny venue - what more can you ask! Wish there had been a few more Glasgow hardcore kids through to liven up the pit, but all in all, an ace evening!
  15. Filthpact - pretty good. Liked the riffs - anyone else remember Buzzov.en? Like them but played at a different speed....... Involution - Grunge wannabes jumping on the metalcor bandwagon? Actually, they were good at the heavy stuff, but when the singer tried to be Layne from AIC, it all went wrong. Stand Up Guy - Ace. Neurosis/Isis/et9/Mogwai. Loved it. Thank you all for the recomendations! Ross - PM/e-mail me plans for Thursday....
  16. The Wildhearts (cos technically Earth Vs.. was the first album) Deftones Rage Against The Machine Uh, a fair few bands with only two albums (Hundred Reasons, Lost Prophets etc) Good question!
  17. I legged it from work, caught the Cherrykicks, who were pretty good, but thought they were better with the Wildhearts a while back. Radio Lucifer - hmmm, only the second gig, so I don't wanna be too critical. I think Johnny is an ace frontman (although so deaf he can't hear a crowd that actually shouts to him, thus declaring us "dead inside" - an advert for ear plugs if I ever saw one....) and Jimmy is entertaining as hell (especially when disconecting himself from an amp mid song), but I think the band will find a firmer sound as they progress. The closest comparison I came up with was The Bronx, but the choruses don't yet shine through, and I would heavy-up the few hardcore breakdowns they have. Not a bad showing for a second gig though, and I look forward to future shows, but I would rather have seen PaGG or WBL.... Deadenstereo - not my thing, and legged it early so I could actually get some sleep before work. Wish Neil had been on earlier, but it wasn't to be....
  18. Did you nkow tickets are available from Ripping? (So says Underground Scene). If you score three for thee, me and James, I'll drive the wee toerag down on Thursday night....
  19. Burst are indeed ace. Their album is a masterpiece..... You going to Stampin' Ground Jim?
  20. Been listening to a fair bit of Atmosphere recently - good shit.....
  21. Avenged Sevenfold are shite. No really, awful, awful stuff. You'll be embarrased you liked it in a year....
  22. Checked out a little "All That Remains" - Good shit, very similar to KillSwitch Engage, which is a good thing. Regarding the Shadows Fall thing - they're just a bit average in my opinion, but I can see why others like them. Chimera on the other hand, are simply apalling.
  23. Oooh, baby. However, does this mean the social cache of my Drowningman tee is diminished? I do hope not... I've got RnR Killing Machine and Drowningman Still Loves You... - neither of which sound very "metal emo" to me! Is the earlier stuff greatly different?
  24. Agree - Shadows Fall suck, and Chimera are HIGHLY over-rated. Not heard much God Forbid tho'....
  25. I thought this ace techno-hardcore band had split, but it seems not: "The Rise have finished recording their second album, 'Reclamation Process'. The album will see a release via our friends at Law Of Inertia Records. It's gonna be interesting; the album will only be available with the next issue of Law Of Inertia (yup, we promote reading) and it will be included FREE. The album is a natural progression from 'Signal To Noise'. Blending more electronics fluidly into their brand of raging hardcore. Don't miss this offer, pic up the magazine. Get all the info here: www.lawofinertia.com" Its also gonna be released in the UK thru Ferret......
