  1. Aw shit! Cloud agrees with me. I've read it through again and it all seems to make sense...
  2. This is ridiculous. Are they going to check everyone or just people they suspect have taken drugs or are dealers? Unless they check smokers on the way back in it would be far too easy for someone to get slipped something outside and then waltz back in fully laden with drugs. Can the machine really tell if you've taken cocaine or just been handed a tenner in your change that was used to snort cocaine half an hour ago? iirc, there's quite a high percentage of british notes that test positive for cocaine. I also suspect that drug dealers will soon find a way of wiping the residue from their hands, most things that don't come off with soap and water can be removed with alcohol. It's a waste of money that targets casual drug users rather than hardcore users and dealers.
  3. One problem: By my estimation there's over 200 acts in Aberdeen at any one time, based on the amount that was on the GCGuide database(160+ and it was nowhere near comprehensive). Starting off with a small database of established acts (lets say 20) leaves them 180+ acts to cover. At every Exposure night they'd be looking to have at least one of the chosen few playing. That leaves 36 acts per year who will be considered for support slots.Assuming they all come up to the expected standard. That means it'll take the Lemon Tree over 5 years to give everyone a fair crack of the whip. I also imagine that the LT still has a good enough name up and down the country to enable them to pull in quite a few acts that'll sell well/out without the local supports help, so a lot of support slots should be filled on suitability rather than bums-on seats potential. This Exposure club will have to keep one eye on bums-on-seats though, or it'll die a slow and painful death. That'll restrict the amount of quality and obscure acts who don't pull they can put on. What happens to them? Do they just get ignored? We've went from "playing this night is the only way bands can be considered" to "oh, and established acts as well". If they just go one step further and change it to "established acts, playing the Exposure club and any acts that the programmer has unearthed in his own investigations" a lot of people would be happier. Just look at the maths, it's ridiculous to do it any other way. The new music programmer seems to be putting up a wall between him and the local community and in the long term I don't think that'll do the LT or talented local musicians any favours at all.
  4. Personally I would start with a big database of bands and whittle it down rather than adding to a small* list (slowly). Breadth of knowledge rather than depth is needed at this stage I think. * I'm assuming the list would be small since there aren't a huge amount of bands I'd put on the "definite" list without more investigation, and I've probably seen 90%+ of local acts.
  5. Can I have your address so I can send you an invoice for cleaning tea stains off my monitor?
  6. That's exactly the phrase that was running through my head.
  7. Here's some guesses as to what's in it for them They'll get a hefty fee if you do get signed.- The bands on compilations pay the costs so this is a no-risk, high potential income strategy. They'll get copyright on your songs.I've seen this one, fortunately the numpty didn't know the difference between intellectual copyright and mechanical copyright so was soon sent packing, especially after I explained the difference and the ramifications to the band. Seriously, I've checked the source code on their myspace page and they are lying through their teeth about the amount of friends they have. What else are they lying about?
  8. Google them. I did and can't find any mention of them before Oct 2008 . Pretty strange for a company who claims to have been around for 12 years. They've only had a myspace since Aug 30th this year. The posts on forums look like the beginnings of a classic internet forum scam (i.e. sceptical guy gets won over by people praising company/product when they are all in fact batting for the same team). The most damning piece of evidence though is they fact they have blanked out the myspace friends count (104) and replaced it with 8273.
  9. If you're spending 7 a gig in batteries maybe it's time you invested in some rechargeables.
  10. Essentially yes, although I suspect it's nothing more than tweaking the software to give it 2 simultaneous channels and linking a secondary output to a HD.
  11. You'd need a freeview box with 2 tuners in it to do that Alan, don't blame your poor old video.
  12. Really? Unless they're dealing and happen to have a significant amount on the premises when Plod visits the most they'll get is a slap on the wrist. I'm sure they'll manage to figure out who grassed them up even if they are coked out of their nuts.
  13. A lot of people don't do direct renting but some people go through an agency/solicitor initially to sort out all the legal shenanigans and benefit from their advertising power and customer base then manage the property themselves. That's what I've done, now the tenants are in and the lease and inventory are sorted I don't see the need to have a middleman getting money for (practically) nothing.
  14. Have you run into the bug where you finish in the play-offs but don't get promoted, and the board are then convinced you finished 10th? EDIT: Of course not if you won 3rd and 2nd consecutively.
  15. Why don't you get a cable that'll allow you to do that (or is there not a mic in socket)? At least that way you can try it out before you splash out on a mic pre-amp and decide if the quality is good enough for your needs. If you don't have a mic-in then you need a pre-amp. Surely you can put a compressor/limiter on the input and adjust the gain with whatever sound recording software you're using.
  16. They might say they have, but have they? I'll be keeping an eye on the SI forums after the game is released just to see how buggy it is before splashing my hard-earned on it. That's if my steam-powered computer can handle it but they haven't released minimum specs yet.
  17. Hopefully they've been working on all the annoying bugs, such as board confidence (it's a joke), boards lying to you when they offer a contract, weather in south america etc etc etc. I'm not going to buy it until I know they've sorted those things out (and not added a plethora of other bugs). FM08 was so poor compared to FM07 not even a flashy 3D match engine is going to entice me if it's still a bug-ridden, poorly designed p.o.s.
  18. Yeah, sorry, I meant 2 clasps per lid. Those on the link are exactly the worst in my experience. I can't think of any of that design (looks like SKB to me, maybe same product, different branding) that I've seen that have had any significant use that doesn't need gaffered at one end (or both). I've got several btw, none of them in full working order, even the ones that haven't had amps in them.
  19. Ah, maybe 6U racks with 4 clasps can handle it, 4U racks with 2 clasps can't, not any I've seen anyway.
  20. I meant:don't ask me if it's goal difference, goals for etc and in what order?
  21. Don't get a plastic one if it's for an amp, I've not seen one that can handle the weight without distorting, then you need gaffer tape to keep the lid on, then you lose the gaffer tape at every gig, then you end up buying more and it ultimately costs you more than a good wooden case would.
  22. I think he means they discount results against the last placed team in the first 8 groups when calculating who goes through to the play-offs. Don't ask me what happens then, I'm sure it'll all become clear IF we have a chance of 2nd place.
  23. At the risk of sounding like a pantomime... Oh no it's not. Seriously, do some checking. It might be frowned upon, it might be considered bad style, but it is not incorrect.
  24. The electricity would've went the other way, i.e. through the guitar, through him and earthed on the mic.
