  1. aye they're working on an album just now, i think they're planning to gig again in the summer.
  2. vomitus have only played one gig so far, in drakes. they're a norwegian black metal band who happen to live in aberdeen just now. they're very very good though. unlike a lot of the bands people have mentioned so far. but i guess it's all down to what you consider to merit being the best in aberdeen.
  3. i'd have to go for: sidca eric euan politik masamune(though not been active for a wee while) hookers green no1 electric tibet clive ravensby maple hearsecrash staccato set and that's it for now
  4. dr drakes does live jazz nights and puts on all manner of things which isn't rock. last thursday opaque played. they were a 2 piece improv duo who played an intense noise build up kinda thing. very good. clive ravensby are worth seeing too, they are an improv colective from stonehaven and can be noisy swines but are very good. there's lots of good electronic things happen in aberdeen, and there's a strong hip hop scene as well. kef do regular hip hop nights and it's not your usually your gangsta stuff. check out estaminet for hip hop nights and different dj nights too. the lemon tree do a monthly radio magnetic night which does hip hop mainly but also had andy votel from twisted nerve up recently playing lots of different stuff. the blue lamp does regular blues and jazz live nights. for something different check out the stuff coming up for trip tych, in particular the mute records night at the lemon tree. 12 bands ranging from post-punk with wire to lots of electronic stuff. there's a tiger beat 6 night at subway as well featuring kid 606 which is worth checking out if you're interested in glitchy techno. drakes also does a regular open mic on a tuesday night which is good fun, mainly acoustic stuff. also this week is rootin aboot at the lemon tree which caters for folk and country music.
  5. the corner of knowledge and enlightenment looked like they'd been partaking of much enlightenment that evening
  6. it fucking ruled, nice to have some people there for a change as well. i have a v bad hangover today though.
  7. i'm looking for a good gig ready amp that gives a really good clean sound but can handle some really nasty distortion and reverb duties too. needs to be fairly loud, probably 100w at least and in good nick. pm me or reply here.
  8. jetplane landing are awesome, everyone should check them out. early stuff was kinda like bluetip but last album was heavier. still darned tasty though.
  9. is the whole album albini produced? looking forward to it lots, hopefully won't bust my ankle to any of it this time though.
  10. yea, it was posted before but certainly worth a look again. it's one of my favourite rathergood vid's.
  11. you dirty little son of a ravensby. you'll get yours, oh yes you will, just you see.
  12. starts at 11, finishes at 3. come down to dr drakes for the very finest in stoner rock, sludge, hardcore, punk, doom, a bit of hip hop and electronica maybe some post-rock and tons of fun fun fun! it shall be a multimedia event for the first time.
  13. i had a great night! was great fun playing bass with ravensby though it was only my second time playing bass on stage i thought it went well. sidca were awesome as always and opaque were intense and damned nice people. a thoroughly good night.

  15. guess i was lucky to get lovely blue marble then. sweet!
  16. adam bomb and the gruesome deaths are a band me and chris were gonna form and may yet. playing a kinda danzig meets shellac type of warped rock. could be a blast. lots of rhythmic chops and ridiculous pinched harmonics.
  17. really love the album but thought they were absolutley shocking on the nme awards.
  18. there's a good reason for that. try www.chunklet.com doh.
  19. i'd actually have a heart attack if molina played in aberdeen. incidentally go to www.clunkett.com for the opportunity to get a limited edition previously unreleased 7" of magnolia electric company stuff. it's blue marble vinyl. very pretty. got mine through the post yesterday but it's one of those 7" that doesn't have a middle bit and i don't have a spare
  20. http://www.hydrahead.com/pelican/ remember i told you about that band pelican, well they're organising a uk tour and are asking people to get in touch direct with them about dates. i know it's a long shot but could be worth a go. check it out on their site. cheers shaz.
  21. yea, i got a copy but i haven't listened to it yet. been listening to the gu medicine demo though, almost non stop. really really good.
  22. just found out yesterday that appendix out's alasdair roberts is playing the lemon tree on the 17th of april as part of rootin aboot. as well as releasing solo albums and stuff with appendix out he's also been part of amalgamated sons of rest with will oldham(bonnie prince billy, palace) and jason molina(songs:ohia) and has collaborated with them on their own albums and singles. dark and sparse folk, should be interesting.
  23. should be a blast, i'm looking forward to it.
