  1. because the lawyers find the loopholes and small text that threatens and fears people into taking down tab sites. if it actually went to court the tab site could probably argue the right to "reverse engineer" which in most countries is a preserved right. i'm obviously not a lawyer, so couldn't say whether the onus would be on the defendant or the plaintiff to prove that a tab was an originally reverse engineered work, or an actual infringement (i.e. someone copied the tab out of the book). there's a fine balance between the right to copyright and patent, and the right to reverse engineer and have a competitive market. too much in either direction really stifles innovation and invention.

  4. does anyone know how much they pay per cd? i guess it must vary by quality and title, but does anyone know any average values? ta
  5. 109 quid for a volume pedal!!!! crikey! make one yourself for a tenner from maplin! i don't know what the ernie ball has going for it, whether it's a smooth balanced foot action or a very clean circuit, but 109 quid seems a little excessive for what is essentially the same thing as the volume knob on a guitar.
  6. hi ray, what sort of state are the speakers in? are there any damage to any of the cones, or do any of the connectors have crackling problems or anything like that? do they come with leads and/or stands? ta
  7. conversely then, where do people think would be the best/a great place to live? personally i find it a strange question, cos i could live in the "best" place in the world, but if you have no friends or nothing to do to make you feel of worth, it's actually the shittest place in the world.
  8. it depends what you want to do really. cubasis is a sequencer - that is, it lets you record MIDI data, which it will then send turn into sounds that you have selected for each track - that could be a VST (e.g. something that makes synth sounds, or drum sounds, or guitar tones) or it could be a soundcard's (e.g. the soundblaster live) soundfont banks. have a google for cubasis / cubase tutorials. do you have a MIDI keyboard or other MIDI input device? if not you will probably find the program a little tedious and uninspiring to use. you should be able to make sounds come out of cubasis with just the program itself and a few VSTs.
  9. there's only one m in my name motherfucker!
  10. There has already been some sort of consultation, and the goverment has told the promoting industry that they should self-regulate. Can anyone think what incentives there are for promoters to stop touts and/or people who buy 4 or 5 tickets and sell all but one?
  11. i don't know all the details, but isn't the issue that he's saying he DIDN'T do all that shaggin, and is alleging libel against the newspaper? so if he really did do it, that makes him no better than lord archer.
  12. they should print people's national insurance number on the tickets, and swipe the cards with tickets as people enter the festival. everyone aged 15-3/4 and over has an NI card, maybe it would stop touting. people wanting refunds could always post their tickets back for a refund. or they could sell the tickets, but not print them until a month before the festival or something, incase people wanted to cancel.
  13. better than 400, unsurprisingly, but not enough. this is 400W of stomach thudding potential we're talking about, it's only 4 years old and has been gigged about 10 times in its life.
  14. i wouldn't actually sell it for 400 quid. but feel free to come play it, could always roll it out at the next gig the band plays, then have a legion of potential purchasers rather than fans lining up to listen. not that we have fans. but you get the point.
  15. Very big wieldy bass stack for sale. Can be had new for around £1100 including delivery from www.gak.co.uk. Head description: http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/options.php?id=316 Cab description: http://www.guitarampkeyboard.com/options.php?id=318 Review: http://www.harmony-central.com/Bass/Data/Marshall/VBA400_Head-1.html selling cos i'm selling my flat and don't want to put it into storage, and my career as a gigging musician is moving towards carting a line6 bass pod xt around with me. the cabinet has a few tears of the vinyl stuff, nothing that couldn't be glued down if you are bothered. the head is spotless. this stack is incredibly loud. when played at volume of '5' or over, loose plaster will fall off walls, non fixed items will rattle off surfaces in the room, etc. etc. this stack is also incredibly heavy, the head is about 35kg and the cabinet around 50kg. they can be moved separately by a single person, but it's not a fun job. two people recommended. luckily the cab has properly constructed wheels and a decent clearance, as well as two sturdy and well shaped handles. the head also has two sturdy spring loaded handles. shameless plug: this stack was used to record the "dear john" songs available at http://myspace.com/preopcop and more hifi-edly at http://iove.org/keepusapart.mp3 http://iove.org/insecurity%20guard.mp3 http://iove.org/preopcop.mp3 All offers welcome, all fair ones will be duly considered. And of course you can come round and try before you buy if you are seriously interested.
  16. also, you could try Atmosphere Light & Sound, or CLS
