  1. My dad told me about that place! I can picture it perfectly, awesome
  2. The carpets are beyond a joke now. I have to say I've not seen any goths or metallers in Moshulu on a Friday in ages, everyone seems pretty 'mainstream' for want of a better word. No one gets hugely dressed up anymore. Saturdays are pretty busy, it's a strange atmosphere because Air Guitar is in the backroom which doesn't really go with the indie in the main room. But it works somehow... I don't really understand how the place has gone so downhill with Barfly backing it, I would have thought they'd be all for gutting the place and starting from scratch.
  3. Think how happy that'd make Stripey! I guess you have to draw the line somewhere. I would have thought the local press would probably cover missing person cases more frequently than the national press. Anyway, the girl has been found, which is a good thing. Millions of Iraqis are dead, which is a bad thing. The two have nothing to do with each other, and how people feel about a single news story is not indicative of the kind of person they are. Thankfully.
  4. Ha! How else would you celebrate the safe return of a loved one other than with a warm can of Carling or Special Brew. Amazing
  5. Oh fuck off. If anyone is pushing emotional buttons, it's you. I don't understand why you insist on doing this over and over. If you don't like a thread someone has written, don't read it. It really is that simple. Don't you dare reduce me to a stereotype when you have no idea who I am or what I do. Your assumption that everyone other than you reads The Sun, gobbles up everything the government tells them and generally hasn't an original thought in their head is insulting. The death of people in Iraq does not directly affect me, nor does it directly affect you. I'm disgusted to learn that statistic but the fact that I didn't know it has nothing to do with me sitting back and watching Iraq being invaded. It doesn't make me a bad person, it doesn't mean I don't care. For what it's worth, and for all the good it did, I went a quite a few anti war marches and demonstrations when it all started. I cast my vote in the election according to how I felt about the war, among other things. I did not 'just sit back'. What it comes down to is you hijacking yet another thread to sneer at everyone else. And to be honest, all you've achieved is making yourself seem even more bitter and unpleasant. If you can honestly say that you don't give a shit about some poor child being abducted and abused in your own country, then I really pity you. You've no sympathy at all and that's really sad. Mods - someone please close this thread now, it's obviously got out of hand and way off topic
  6. People like me...and what am I like then? Apart from being the kind of person who is happy to hear that a child has been safely returned to her family. You're right, you have clearly learned all you need to know about me from this one thread. I certainly know all I want to know about you. Bravo on pressing your MP and MSP though, you're obviously making a great contribution to the cause.
  7. I make one thread about it and I'm treating it like a soap opera? o_O Are you doing anything to help stop all those Iraqis dying, or are you just trying to demonstrate your moral superiority on an internet forum? Because if you're lobbying ministers and campagining to help then great, if you feel so strongly that you're going to go to Iraq and get actively involved then I salute you. But if you're just reeling off statistics to make other people feel small then I find that far more offensive.
  8. Go and make a thread about it then. It's got nothing to do with this one.
  9. Again, if you can't say something nice... Fucking cheer up, aren't you bored of pissing on everyone else's good mood?
  10. BBC NEWS | England | West Yorkshire | Missing girl Shannon found alive It's so rare that you actually hear good news when a child is abducted/goes missing. The poor girl has probably been through hell but the fact she was found alive made me so happy
  11. I'm guessing, but it seem pretty likely considering Aberdeen is low on ethnic diversity. I'm not sure what my point was but I think the purpose of gay bars or anything which caters to a minority isn't to exclude anyone, it's to make that that minority are more comfortable so they don't *feel* like a minority. Anyone is welcome in Foundation, just as they're welcome in Moshulu or...*struggles to think of a music-of-black-origin club/clubnight* but the point of them being there is to cater for a niche market. And seeing as the majority of clubnights in Aberdeen cater for traditionally white music tastes it seems a bit churlish to be complaining about the few nights which don't. That was a very convoluted reply. I dunno what I'm getting at really...
  12. You'll probably find a heafty amount of people demonstrating their straightness in gay clubs too to be honest. The few times I've been to Foundation all the women there were (like me) fag hags for the night. I saw about 4 lesbians and felt like some awful fraud when one of them started chatting me up. I'm all for celebrating diversity, why not? Who does it hurt? It's great if people are proud of their heritage, sexuality etc, just don't try and preach to me about it. The idea of equality is that people are equal. Gay Pride, Black History Month etc all are about raising awareness, not lording it over the majority. God, this thread has annoyed me! The majority of folk on here are male, middle class and white (as Ben Folds said ) what's all the bitching about?
  13. I'm really sorry, but apart from it being a blatent rip off of an old joke, it's not very well written. You can't expect to get away with padding out a misogynistic joke with ramblings about how attractive the secretary is or how fat and ugly the mother in law is for an English essay, no wonder your teacher didn't like it. I know it wasn't intentionally copied but try and write something original and that you can relate to otherwise your writing will always be stiff and unrealistic. /rant of the English student. Sorry, stuff like this really gets me worked up!
  14. I was chatting to a mate of the guys in Jackie Treehorn (from Livingstone, played The Moorings a few times) and he reckons they'd be up for a gig on a Monday some time in the future if you fancied it?
  15. I had no idea it was closing, shit! Can't say I've been there very often in the last few years, but I've had some good nights there. Surely there's no market for a hotel on Belmont Street, it would be hellishly noisy.
  16. It's like a beard spotters guide, I kinda want to print it out and track them all down The Chin Curtain looks like Coutts in the Bassment, and here we thought he was sporting an Abe Lincoln tribute.
  17. people will always draw cocks on statues and put traffic cones on their heads, that's what statues are for. Putting up a new one isn't going to make it anyless likely to be vandalised, if anything it'll get more abuse. Where can we see photos of this new design?
  18. The dog does look pretty dead and the whimpering is a bit loud as well, but if you hold an animal with the scruff of their neck they often can't move very well anyway. Surely those guys have got better things to be doing over there than filming videos for youtube?
  19. It's pretty hard to go wrong when you're cooking fresh fish, only bit that is slightly icky is gutting them. I'd be a bit wary of cathcing anything too close to Aberdeen though, god knows what's in the water around here, I'd imagine you'd need to go further up the coast to get away from all the sewer water and what not.
  20. sold out or not? conflicting sources are confusing me.
  21. I like it, it makes me smile and I can have a wee dance. Don't like Moving to New York though, I think The Wombats are one of these bands that have one good song (debate-able, I know) and Joy Division is their semi decent song. It's pretty harmless.
  22. Thankfully as a girl I am beard free but beards on a man are one of my favourite things. My ex could go from clean shaven to chin bleedingly stubbley in a matter of hours, it was pretty impressive. My downfall is sideburns. I cannlot a resit a guy with good sideys, mutton shops, whatever. It's a curse
  23. Brian and Craigie would be better hosts than most of the reprobates on TV, but I'd love to see them do something like the Brits. I felt a bit sorry for Ozzy, they obviously kept him off stage in case he got all sweary but Sharon was so much worse. And Kelly's face was proof that no matter how rock and roll your parents are, they can still mortify you in public. Which is pretty reassuring
  24. It was a train wreck from start to end, as ever. The Klaxons and Rianna's song was pretty impressive though, awesome lasers Winehouse looked wasted though and really nervous. And she had to ask Mark Ronson how many times to repeat the chorus of Valerie, anyone else notice that?
  25. you have to change to option one I think. No difference in the cost as far as I know, but just mentioned it as something to remember. You can get broadband for mere pennies these days but if you don't factor in the line rental you can end up paying the same amount and not realise. Are you and the flatmate paying 23 each or in total?
