The 21-year-old actor slashed his wrists and took an overdose of paracetamol in despair over rumours he was gay. "I really wanted it to work. It was never a cry for help - I'd just had enough," Parker told OK! magazine. Parker, who played loveable Spencer Moon in the BBC soap, had learned a newspaper was about to print claims by lap dancer Lucie Clark that he had invented a kiss-and-tell story to hide the truth about his sexuality. Determined to kill himself, he packed a bag with kitchen knives and paracetamol and checked into a London hotel last November. "I got the knives out of my bag straight away and started carving up my wrists. I couldn't do it though, so I got in the bath and tried again. The whole place just looked like a slaughterhouse," he said. "I was in a lot of pain and I just wanted to pass out. I was in a cycle of sleeping for 20 minutes, puking for 20 minutes and then cutting my wrists for 20 minutes. The room smelled awful because the blood really stank. I tried to jump out of the window but was too scared and kept chickening out." Parker said he was devastated by the gay rumours - which he denies - because they would damage the clean-cut image he built up through EastEnders and his appearance on Strictly Come Dancing. Parker's life was saved when he called two friends who dashed to the hotel. By the time they arrived he had lost four pints of blood and was struggling to breathe. The actor said he had planned to leave EastEnders in September but while in hospital told bosses he wanted to leave straight away. His character was written out of the soap earlier this month. His next project is a visit to Africa for Comic Relief. He now describes the suicide bid as "stupid" and said: "I want to put the message out there that it isn't the right thing to do."I don't want to demean the implications of depression and suicidal tendencies, but this hardly does much to prevent homophobia in society.Being gay would ruin his "clean cut image"???? What the fuck?[/quote']Hrm, for once I half see your point, but being accused of something your not no matter what it is can be quite upsetting... and from our point of view if we are accused of being something a few dozen people in Aberdeen find out... if he's accused half the bloody country finds out. Even if he doesn't mind people thinking he's gay, you have to remember that there are plenty of prejudice people out there who may hold it against him if they think hes gay, it may have negatively effected his career, not to mention the fact that there may well be women he cares about that this may also damage.Or on the flip side, maybe the whole gay thing is true and he's a self hating homophobe... who knows, but people should just leave the guy alone.
