rune
When exactly did he say this? Rollins advertised or GAP and Mac ages ago. Why's he a sell out now? As for being owned by corporations' date=' he has his own publishing company that put out his books so he appears to own himself. He said himself he has no problems advertising for products he uses but he won't adveritise for things like cigarettes and alcohol which he doesn't approve of. I don't see how that is compromising his principles at all. All the Black Flag lyrics he wrote were about hating himself and the police, not the corporations.[/quote']You obviously haven't got much knowledge on mr rollins, having his whole rollins band collection i have more insight to what he thinks, for instance on one of his cd's he has a pop at the offspring, haven't you ever seen him on a tv interview? Guess not. What about the black flag song "tv party" dont you think thats a swipe at the media? Also songs such as crass commercialism, society's tease even in a black flag interview they stated they have been involved in political activity.Between black flag and rollins band, i have 34 releases in total, dont preach to me what rollins is about i know. If he owns himself then why does he feel the need to go on these tv shows? Yeah right
rune
You're right. I'd much rather be broke but have the respect of the 'music world'... Who gives a shit what the 'music world' think of you. Is that going to pay for your house' date=' your holidays, for your kids to go to Uni? Why should be sit about contemplating how punk rock he is when he could be out hosting a monster truck programme? Hell I know what i'd rather be doing. And FYI - just because the profits from the tour went to charity, doesn't mean the band had to pay for it... [/quote']Seems you don't know what respect is, morals also. Obviously in your book it's ok to go back on your own morals. Seems to me you don't know what the difference between right and wrong is. Since when is the memphis three a charity? It's a cause. You really don't know what you're talking about. Your knowledge on black flag and henry rollins is lacking.I didn't even state the band would pay for it, i was being SARCASTIC. Some people just don't get it

Guest allsystemsfail
Horses for courses' date=' to be honest...I far prefer his spoken word output to his days in black flag (although his vocals [b']made SOA, his previous band)....maybe people call that selling out, punk rock vocallist to stand up comedian.....people get off on different things y'know, after singing in bands for 22 years, who wouldn't rather do something different for a change, like host a monster truck show....its all fun...MOSTER TRUCKS! MONSTER TRUCKS! WANNA WATCH MONSTER TRUCKS!! YEAH I KNOW...His becoming a spoken word performer involves no compromise. However, you gotta admit that some of his recent forays in to movies, television etc have indeed been embarrassing.
Guest allsystemsfail
You're right. I'd much rather be broke but have the respect of the 'music world'... This ain't a point bout Rollins specifically, but some consider principles of greater importance. Bout Rollins - I can't say that I was ever that big on the guy. Sure, Damaged is pretty cool, but that aside I always thought his work with BF and others overrated.
Rob Karloff
I really don't think Rollins gives two shits what anyone else thinks about him. That's what I like most. I think he's doing what he loves to do, and that's great. People change... You stand still, you waste your life.

The Milner
I thought that "real punks" did whatever they wanted regardless of what other people thought? isnt that the true meaning of being a punk?? Doing what you want and not what other people think they should be doing. You crusty punk lovers get yourself so confused sometimes, one minute you love someone for being their own person, when it suits you that is, the rest you moan because people dont do what you want them to do. Hmmm seems like the old punk ethic is either a load of shit or you guys havent got a clue. ill let everyone else decide that one.

MitchPact
Last time i checked Black Flag hadn't sold out, all records were released through SST, They'd played club shows and weren't rocking arenas and were receiving next to no mainstream radio play.Henry has become a celebrity, so what ? how many people do you know who are doing exactly the same thing they were 20 years ago ? He's hosting a show on Monster Trucks, a topic completely unrelated to Black Flag or punk rock for that matter its not like he's gone and joined busted as their new singer and if he had i couldn't really give a fuck to be honest, live and let live, our time here is short and we should enjoy it doing what we want to do and i guess Henry wanted to host a tv show on monster trucks. Guest Jake Wifebeater
Rune, there really is no need to get so angry about it. I follow a simple philosophy regarding bands, if you don't like what they're doing, don't buy their releases. I have no interest in whatever Mr. Garfield is up to now, but, for me, S.O.A.'s "No Policy" 7" is one of the best HC records of all time in my book. I still get a buzz from listening to it, it fucking rules! Take in the things you like, spit out those you don't. No big deal.

This thread is about henry rollins, since when was the thread called "black flag" or "punk rock"?? So what? Don't you believe in morals. What is the point in saying something or believing in a certain thing, then only going to reverse your own outlook on life? That is so untrue.
