The trios tectonic throbs of guitar, drum and bass have been making in-roads into the Scottish music scene over the last six months. Tipped by Scotsman Radar as the Act to Watch in 2011, receiving a nomination for Best Live Act at this years Scottish Alternative Music Awards and winning a lucrative slot at this years T Break Stage at T in the Park, Lady North have fast gained the reputation of intriguing and unpredictable purveyors of pulsing instrumental rock. Led by Scott Bullens android guitar, Jamie Steels gyrating basslines and Paul Bannons apoplectic percussion, the three tear apart convention, combining math with wider strains of funk, reggae and prog. They create a seething, stomach acid-frothing ogre of sound that must not be missed. No matter who you are, you need to check this band out live. What the press think:quite probably the city's (Edinburgh) most exciting live band Radar ScotsmanEvery once in a while you hear a band who completely dispense with all the 4/4 bullshit youve become accustomed to and blow your fucking mind. Glasgow Podcartmathematic riff magicians The Skinny PAWS are a punk rock band that live in Glasgow with two thirds of it's members hailing from Inverness and Edinburgh. They bash out infectious, lo-fi garage pop-rock, that can shift from cute melancholia to an unnerving territorial roar. Their live show blends the dynamics of that of a kitten and that of a grizzly bear. Alternative pop songs in kittenBEARkitten structure.Strong holders of punk rock ethic, PAWS have recorded all their material to date from home and have released a single with Wise Blood Industries, a set of limited run cassette compilations aswell as their recent debut "Mermaid E.P" which was mastered by Bob Weston of Shellac.Having only been a band for little over a year, PAWS have gigged relentlessly within the UK opening for bands that share their ethic such as No Age, Wavves, Dum Dum Girls, YUCK!, Male Bonding and Ariel Pink's Haunted Graffiti to name a few. BBC Radio 1 also invited the band to play a live session in early 2011 as did BBC 6 Music back in August 2010.Looking to start work on their debut full length record shortly after Summer, 2011 is shaping up to be a very exciting time for these three kittens. What the press think:Loud, melodic, distorted, catchy, triumphant, reckless: Radar ScotsmanCombining Dinosaur Jr-esque melodic noisemongery with colourful imagery, restless energy and an ear for a good hook The Listrather awesome Glasgow face-melters Song, by Toad

Moose
Yeah it really was a beery, punky mess. Saw The Min, Lady North and Paws: all excellent. Lady North are great, they sound a bit like Mars Volta at times, but good and not rubbish. Their drummer is genuinely one of the best I've ever seen. Outstanding. An enjoyable stage invasion at the end too.
