Alan Cynic
It started in the back of a shop called 'Happy trails' (on Rosemount......more or less where the Oxfam shop is, I think), although it was called 'Maya' at the time. Lemonade
Not sure when the Belmont Street shop opened but it was on Diamond Street before that and before that there were 2 shops on Rosemount Viaduct and George Stereet. I'm guessing you haven't read this thread all the way through Kinda half read it. Skimmed it really. Which shop on Diamond Street was it in? Le Stu
I remember it being on Diamond St but where I cannot remember. There was also a Wimpy. My first 1Up record may have been NRG - Feel The Fury, which had I Need Your Lovin' on the flipside. I was quite happy with that. Monster Zero
Kinda half read it. Skimmed it really. Which shop on Diamond Street was it in?It's on the same side as the Claires sandwich shop but it's all boarded up - maybe a couple doors down towards Union St? I'm not sure if anything has ever been there since One Up closed.
threeornothing
In the Diamond Street shop, I spied a 2nd hand copy of The Clan's Eat The Jam demo tape which I bought (and still have) best local band ever imo...In Belmont street I bought every punk looking 7" they stocked (4 past midnight, the varukers, newtown grunts, china drum.....loads more) but I'll never forget asking them to order in Minor Threat's EPLP, Operation Ivy's LP, Crass - feeding the 5000 etc....blew my mind buying that stuff from one up, now you can buy it all from HMV... Me and Parvati
Ah, Happy Trails! More clogs than a sensible person could ever use (try running for a 25 bus in them!) and I think I bought 'Hey, Bo Diddley!' from there around 1973. As a sideline, I sold them the eponymous QSM album around 1979. Great Thing, that was a tedious record! Guitar noodling ad nauseaum. When I had hair and flares.... Pierre Von Mondragon
Wasn't their logo in the form of a lasso rope, 70s graphictastic.
